We never really used these back in the Crayon Corps. I've said it before, but we had them on our rifles for maybe a month, otherwise we never used them: We never deployed with them on our rifles. Also, there are some statistics out there that show these break at higher rates than ACOGs do. Having seen what Marines and corpsmen put ACOGs though, I believe it. We had a first sergeant that would spike Marines M4s against the ground when he was angry with them...

There's just not a point where you'd really use these in the situations I was in. I've shot broken ACOGs before, and it's not hard to get rounds on target even when they lose their zero and you can't adjust the reticle: You just observe the impact and adjust your point of aim. If you did break one, the armorer replaced it in short order, and none of the times I got shot at ever lasted long enough where if I did suddenly find my optic was broken, I could've gotten my multi-tool out, removed the optic, flipped up the sight and got the gun into action.

So if the glass breaks, you can still use the reticle in your ACOG? That’s good to know. I bought one and it’s okay. I realized I hate the chevron being always on and 4x really blows at 300yd as far as knowing what I’m shooting at. I imagine when getting shot at, that is much more clear. Clearest glass I ever looked through by far.

You can put tape over the fiber optic cable to dim the chevron. You can adjust the amount of tape to adjust the amount of light, too. It can definitely get some red "haze" around it if it's too bright out.

Oh, no, you're cooked. You can't mount these sights on an M4 with an ACOG with enough room to see through the optic, either, so you have to take the optic off.
