Western Global’s MD-11’s should be coming back up in the coming weeks from what I’ve heard, not sure about the few MD-10’s operated by mom & pop cargo airlines & Orbis International. Seems like this is how the whole thing went:
Boeing to all of the operators: just how badly do you guys need these planes
UPS: not badly enough to go through the hassle and post accident PR issues, we’re just gonna retire em
FedEx: pretty bad
Cal Fire (on behalf of 10 Tanker Air Carrier): also pretty bad
The other random operators: not that bad but since FedEx handles our maintenance they’ll do it for us soo
Seems like UPS’s MD-11’s are gonna be the only retirements in the end
