Laser on final approach

Got lazed as a passenger tonight on final approach into a large international airport. Pilots said they didn’t see it but I was able to pinpoint a neighborhood using Google Maps. Worth a call to the non emergency police line or would that be a waste of time?

Lol. No.
How can you possibly identify who did it? What do you expect cops to do?
That’s a huge waste of time, not to mention local cops don’t enforce federal law.

Don’t worry, most states have state laws for this too. For examples from east to west across the country, Florida has 784.062(3)(a), Colorado has 18-3-210, and Washington has 9A.49.020(c).

The police helicopters love finding these guys.

When they are the ones lazed. They aren’t just flying around looking for lasers.

Absolutely not true at all. If it’s multiple reports they’d definitely check it out.

My guy. I’m a cop. It’s 100% true. There is zero way you have an exact address… so whose door are they knocking on? If there is 5 people in there, which one did? You can identify any of them.
And they aren’t getting multiple reports. They are only getting yours.
Again, keep downvoting. I actually know what I’m talking about.

People do get caught, and each one caught is one more reminded that it's stupid and will get them in a lot of trouble. But they only get caught if reported, so giving up on it as you seem inclined to so is a poor approach.
If the OP was a passenger and therefore couldn't report it right away via radio it'd be more difficult but I'd think any reports would help narrow down areas and xoukd be helpful.

From a passenger calling their local station? No.
They are caught because LE helicopters have to be on frequency or ATC relays to LE and the person with the laser can be caught red handed.
It’s rare. And with the timeframe, it’s effectively impossible.
So, yes. It’s a waste of local LEs time.

Definitely report.

You can call but they’ll likely get reported to ATC by other pilots flying the same approach. I doubt the laser dude just gave up after the one plane.

Had that happen at 400agl after a touch n go, immediately told the tower and abt 2 or 3 approaches after we saw some police lights in the area we saw the laser come from, no idea if it was correlated but it did bring me some peace of mind
