Have I become the olds?

Truck was in the shop for the week, so I was in a newer cascadia with all the bells and whistles. Lane keep assist, blind spot detection, super power steering...
I fucking hated it. Even turned off, the Lane keep assist fought me all fucking week. The blind spot detection light and alarm seems to want me to put on my turn signal and immediately merge, fuck using my turn SIGNAL to SIGNAL to traffic that I want to move over. And the steering requiring zero effort just felt wrong all week, some maneuvers felt like I was trying to steer a god damn pirate ship with how many revolutions it would take. Like yeah, I could steer the truck with my limp dick, but I'm not sure that's a good thing if I cum before I can get it in the dock.
If I cant disable some of this shit, I'm not positive I won't be one of those old guys "if you put me in an automatic I'm hanging up the keys" except it's gonna be me yelling "if I can't drive the damn truck myself without a robit takin control, I'm hanging up the keys"

Radar braking on cruise control.
Braking on cruise control going downhill.
As a 4 wheeler I hate it as well.

I hate lane keep even in cars, thank all the gods old and new my Cascadia doesn't have that

The 2026 Freighliner with that Detroit Assurance demon collision avoidance system is a pile of shit. It interrupts the radio, all your podcasts are fucked, it slams on the brakes when it sees shadows or ghosts. The cruise requires a football field of following distance to work (362 feet) the steering is super sensitive and fucked. I hate it with every fiber of my being.

The peterbilt I'm in is 2026 and has no such tech. Other than lane warning, and radar for that educated cruise control.

That's the way to go right there, newer truck but without all the annoying stuff trying to take over every 5 seconds. My dad drives older Peterbilt and always says they know how to build trucks without making drivers feel like passengers in their own cab
The lane warning I can deal with, at least it's not actually fighting your steering wheel when you need to make a move

I'm accustomed to the lane warning. But that Lane keep assist is insane.
Here's hoping a couple companies buck the trend and hold against the insurance companies.

yeah, all the shit you mentioned is optional equipment and a lot of companies like optional equipment to help their drivers which are mostly not very experienced because of the high turnover rate because it’s cheaper to replace them with new drivers then it is to pay them enough to retain them.
for example, I’m in a 2023 Volvo that they finally put an outward facing cam in and it has none of the other nonsense and the only reason they finally put the cam in is because of their insurance quotes.
which is what’s driving all of this optional equipment BS.

It's not just you man, I dealt with the newer trucks at my last job with all that horseshit. I much prefer "dumb" trucks to anything modern, as I like to be in control over everything in it. No automatic braking, cruise matching, etc. When I bought myself my own truck, the main factors were:
1 - No emissions engines
2 - No driver aides
