what to upgrade first, first time upgrading EVER !!

Hii everyone!! to keep this short, i was handed a pre-built pc by some friend back in like 2022 and it was pretty cheap for what i could do back then.. but now i'm having issues like low fps and sometimes i have to restrict myself from playing. I don't know much on pcs so sorry if i'm missing informations, just lmk and i'll share wtv else to help c:
I don't have a specific budget, but i'm a student and a part time worker so keep that in mind! (i'll save toward the goal)
Now for my specs,
cpu: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor
memory: 16gb
gpu: AMD raedon 5500 XT

If your games playlist excludes title with Windows-only anticheat, you have the option of a Linux gaming distro.
Your 5500XT sits between the RX 580 and RX 5700 XT:
Good chance the 5500 XT stands to have comparable gains...
There's also CPU and GPU overclocking with concurrent undervolting that can squeeze out additional FPS with no change in hardware.
Worth a try, IMHO, before sinking money into upgrades..

Likely, the GPU is the worst of the issues. Your upgrades will depend on your power supply. So, what kind of power supply do you have?

i'm not sure, how do i check that? \^\^" sorry if this seems obvious loll like i said i didn't build it, nor am i really well informed on building pcs
Confident_Health_583@reddit
Take off the side panel and look at what the power supply says. It should have a model number on it.
Salviati_Returns@reddit
what is your motherboard and power supply. Each may put limits on what is upgradeable.
Chemical_Honeydew590@reddit (OP)
hii for the motherboard i think it's B450M DS3H-CF, sorry if this isn't the right thing!! and for the power supply i'm not sure how to check (?) english isn't my first language loll
Salviati_Returns@reddit
You are good with the motherboard. Find out what the wattage is of your power supply, that is really the critical limiting factor in terms of upgrades.
Chemical_Honeydew590@reddit (OP)
checked online and is the only way to open my pc and check my power supply label? since like i said i didn't build it, so i have no idea of what it is. I'll have to check that tomorrow so ty for the help so far, i appreciate your patience lol

9070xt/5070ti/5080. 9070xt is best for price to performance, being very powerful. 5070ti is a little faster, with dlss to boot. 5080 is a scam, but it is faster
Vegetable-Matter3953@reddit
On AM4 with a decent mobo a Ryzen 5 5500X3D would be a nice upgrade.
GPU wise to save some money RTX 3080 might be the optimal decision aswell. But again depends how much your PSU can handle.
Either way you need to upgrade that gpu either way at first imo considering it is almost as good as a rx 580 which is outdated for todays games tbh.

Save towards a 5070ti or 5080 if you don't have a particular budget in mind. Pair it with some x3d CPU like a 9800x3d
Bichaelcycle@reddit
The CPU. Get a 5600. Or you could upgrade the GPU and get the 9060XT
