Wanted to purchase Elantra N but im a little scared about it being unreliable, what are your thoughts?
GrannyShiftur@reddit
Very reliable, great cooling, solid history since 2017.
Dealership sucks near me but that’s true for many other brands

Had a 2019 Elantra Sport. The engine grenaded itself at 2,300 km. Not 230k. Not 23k. Two thousand and three hundred. The dealer fixed it under warranty (obviously), but when I asked for an itemization of what was done, they said "Hyundai doesn't allow us to release that info if the repair is done under warranty". I kept the car for about 6 more months, for rid of it because I never felt I could trust it again. That was the end of my Hyundai purchases, and I started with a 2013, then a 15, 17 and the 19. All the others were reliable until 100k, then every one started having issues.
All that said, who knows. Maybe they've improved, maybe I got a lemon.

Damn, 2300km is kind if crazy, kind of scary to think about

One of the techs said the entire bottom of the engine catastrophically failed. The fact that they refused to give me anything in writing was sketchy af. I expected better.

Having second thoughts now to be honest.

What year are you thinking of getting? I know 22+ cars are pretty damn reliable with the new engines, and im sure the engine killing itself at 2300 was more of an anomaly than anything, albeit a pretty bad one. Ive heard overall pretty good things about the cars themselves from people, just the dealerships are bad like others have said.
Robins-dad@reddit
Please don’t make decisions based on anecdotal evidence. Especially one 7 years old. And that is not the engine in the EN.
Creecher10@reddit
I've got one with only 12,500 miles. Got it in August last year, zero issues so far. I daily drive it and take it autocrossing multiple times a month. On weekends im not autocrossing, im usually driving on some back roads for a couple hours pretty hard and I also have a track day coming up next month. Its been great since I got it and I have no intention of modding it. Ive got the manual, but I hear the DCT is really great in these cars, especially for its price point. No regrets with it currently.

Generally they're reliable, however their dealership experience and their service techs are god awful.
Robins-dad@reddit
Hyundai dealers are franchises like any other brand. Service quality will vary based on each dealer. You can't make a blanket statement like this.
ImReallyFuckingHigh@reddit
Franchises generally have some level of corporate guidelines they are supposed to follow
Successful_Ad_9707@reddit
No, in this case I can. Hyundai are notorious for having terrible dealers. More so than many other brands.
Robins-dad@reddit
Where do you get your information? Social media? It’s better to have reliable statistics. When huge dealer conglomerates decide to purchase Hyundai franchises, it’s not because they want to run them poorly.
Successful_Ad_9707@reddit
This comes directly from owners and potential owners. Techs not knowing what they're doing, rude, clueless salespeople, ect. This can happen at any dealership, but it seems to be a pretty prevalent issue for Hyundai. Lots of complaints out there.

The Nissan Z is the same. Sports car bargain if you can find a good CPO one, but then you have to deal with Nissan dealers and oh my lord I’ve never seen anything like it.
lrbikeworks@reddit
My son has had one for a year. So far it’s been amazing.

Thank you for letting me know, Heard the car is fun!
lrbikeworks@reddit
So fun. I’ve driven it a few times. It’s drum tight, handles great, sounds great, and it’s a damn fine looking car. He has the sky blue, and the red and black accents really pop. The interior is perfectly functional without being austere, the bucket seats are like something out of a race car. It’s really wonderfully done. 10/10 would recommend.

Yea i heard these things are FAST
seanx50@reddit
But loud
captstinkybutt@reddit
I can't express in words just how awful the Hyundai dealership network is
yungmung@reddit
Anything specific for the EN, or just in general? I'm looking to get this car soon
captstinkybutt@reddit
Kid in my neighborhood has one and loves it.
I have the Ioniq 5 N.
Robins-dad@reddit
Mine has 44,000 miles (2023) and other than the horn (known issue) and an exhaust valve problem (both covered under warranty) it's been dead reliable. It's 27 months old if that helps.
Impossible-Lemon-883@reddit (OP)
Thank you for this helpful information, also isnt there a 100k warrenty on the car also?
Robins-dad@reddit
Yes, covers mainly the powertrain and suspension.
Impossible-Lemon-883@reddit (OP)
Seems like Hyundai is confident about their product might purchase
