UrbanGlide Ultra chainring (and chain) rubbing against chainstay

I have a Vanpowers UrbanGlide Ultra. On a recent ride the chain pinched so badly that I was unable to clear it without disassembly the right crank arm, chainstay and chainring. After clearing and re-assembly, the chainring and chainstay are now tight against each other, causing the chain to rub up against and cut into the metal chainstay. I cannot figure out how the chainstay is spaced away from the chainring. If there were spacers, I did not see them during disassembly.
Does anyone with experience here have any suggestions? Did is just happen to lose all four spacers during disassembly? I'm currently riding without the chainstay hoping that the'd be okay until I can figure this out. The picture with the metal gouges on the chainstay were after riding 10 miles home post road-side repair.

Fun fact, if you were so inclined you could mount another chainring on the back of that spider. You'd have to manually move the chain over. But it has its uses as a bail gear.

I think you solved it. I think the chainring is supposed to be mounted on the backside of the spider bracket, and the chainstay on the front. I'll take a look again tomorrow.

Yes, that's the correct orientation.

Two options: install washers or don't use that chain guard disk. If you don't have washers, take a thick paper clip, wrap it around the bolt with pliers and cut it. Rinse n repeat.

Yeah, I think I'll forgo the guard disk for the time being.

Where are the spacer washers?

Well that's the thing, I didn't see any on the ground when I was working on it so I wasn't sure if there were any. This is my first bike and first time taking apart a bike so I wasn't expecting there to be washers to look out for. Are washers the only explanation here?

You can buy a spcer washer kit from the 'zon, but it really should have come with the ring and/or the guard. Someone else in the thread mentioned doing a double gaurd. I'd go for a bigger chainring, but that's just me
