Why do Balkans not wear glasses?

Today we were queuing for a club in Skopie, and there were surprisingly no people with glasses.
Does this belong similarly to the Nalkan style like the short hair buzz cut?

I use contact lenses when socializing. I have found that there’s more of a barrier - both physically and mentally - when I wear glasses and want to talk with other people

I don’t wear them outdoors to avoid looking like a geek, may quickdraw them tactically sometimes if absolutely necessary before putting them back.

Glasses are to drink from and not to wear!

My mom acted like it was embarrassing when I had to get glasses as a child now that I think about it. Not anymore but I bet it was an older way of thinking.

Yeah true is not that common. Lot of Balkan people grew up rural, spent lot of times outside so the rates of vision problems in kids was always way less. It's quite uncommon actually, in my dad village, there was no kid with glasses at all. It's an affliction of indoor urban youth. Hermit culture of staying indoors is not that much of a thing in Balkans. People are more encouraged to socialize in general compared to western countries, I feel like that's the case usually but maybe I'm wrong.

I have a Montenegrin friend who's grandmother used to say "that you shouldn't let others see that there is something wrong with you. People who have issues don't get anywhere in the world." Granted, she was old. She lived to 98 and died almost 10 years ago, so maybe it's something similar in Macedonia lol
