It will always blow my mind that people decide to threaten the lives of first responders like this. Out of everyone in society that deserves shit like this wildfire fighters are at the complete bottom of the list.
fallingjigsaws@reddit
After working in the forests I learned that the tree people and mountain clans fucking HATE the Forest Service, even though they mostly do good work and bust their ass to help them all the time.
Immediate-Spite-5905@reddit
as a non-american, what the hell are those?
throwaye12@reddit
Usually extremely paranoid people who have isolated themselves from society because they believe collapse is imminent.
Immediate-Spite-5905@reddit
yall have those? i thought those people stopped being around in like the 1970s
throwaye12@reddit
It spiked in popularity driving Covid. Lots of Mormons in the mountain west too
purpleplatapi@reddit
No, they still exist. We have a lot of land. It's not that hard to live in a temperate forest and not be discovered for a while. It's not only paranoid people, sometimes they're vanilla homeless people who would rather live in the forest then beg on a street corner. But mostly it's people with severe mental health issues convinced the world is going to end.
carl-swagan@reddit
I am very curious what country you live in that has “tree peoples and forest clans”
skidsareforkids@reddit
My father-in-law is a retired spray pilot and has been fired upon multiple times over his 50yr career… Fortunately nobody ever figured out how much to lead by, but what the fuck is wrong with people?!?
Su-37_Terminator@reddit
they won't shoot at cops and rapists from ICE but they will shoot at firefighters. dump them in a hole and pour concrete over em.
TacitlyDaft@reddit
I am genuinely in favor of the d*ath penalty for the perpetrators if caught.
Censored because I don’t need a fucking Reddit cares message.
_Bon_Vivant_@reddit
Hunting accident?
Kamusaurio@reddit
trying to hunt the loch ness monster?
the impact on the rudder is probably because the shooter was not shooting in front with enough lead , probably because was aiming directly to the cockpit
_Bon_Vivant_@reddit
A hunter over a ridge, misses his target and the bullet flies into the lake.
DashBee22@reddit
They’re gonna hunt him down and castrate him. The wildfire service does NOT fuck around.
Free_Resort8540@reddit
What a moron (the individual shooting at the plane).
Gunsensual@reddit
That doesn't resemble bullet damage on sheet metal at all. That's from something larger and slower. That looks typical of damage from something getting ejected from a powerplant.
And they went to cops about this? They need to inspect the props for damage.
Icy-Ninja-622@reddit
True, the damage at the bottom of the article photo does not look like bullet damage. How could that even be mistaken for bullet damage?
Blurockcreek@reddit
How could the sheet metal be twisted outwards if the thing (allegedly a relatively small bullet) shot INTO the plane? I worked as an A&P in AK a long time ago and saw some damage of unknown cause to sheet metal but it was always clear it was something from the outside pushing inward. This seems pretty bizarre to be pushing from inside out.
Gunsensual@reddit
I don't know? For the hole to be that large and unclean it would need to be a 25mm wide cannon bullet crawling along at about the speed of a plane.
Analogsilver@reddit
Sounds like you found out where the arsonist was located.
Conscious-Fact6392@reddit
Pffft. Guys come on. That was from one of the chem trail gay sauce canisters he was dropping.

Chago04@reddit
Came here to post this. I should have known.
Stealth022@reddit
Nothing says ‘support first responders’ quite like taking potshots at them
5literfustang@reddit
Why would we assume this guy supports first responders?
PlayingWithFire42@reddit
Yup, the guy shooting at first responders clearly supports them? Like, what?
But we all know what he means and for some reason the no politics rule is not always enforced on these thinly veiled attempts at circumventing it.
5literfustang@reddit
Glad I wasn’t the only one..all you can do is be thankful to not have such a binary world view
rocbolt@reddit
Doesn’t stop at potshots

I live in Idaho. This was horrid but off the wall shit is becoming more and more common. A candidate running for the republican gubernatorial nomination has run a HeteroAwesome Fest, offered free beer at his bar for anyone who reported people to ICE, and a similar campaign with rewards for information about the Boise mayor over Pride flags
InQuintsWeTrust@reddit
That isn’t uncommon unfortunately.
Brandonrebeleight@reddit
Probably the folks who hate the government. I’m a fire fighter and I’ve had a gun pointed at me twice by homeowners once for evacuating and the other accessing a fire through their land.
Random-Cpl@reddit
Plenty of folks threatened to shoot FEMA first responders in NC a year and change ago
InQuintsWeTrust@reddit
I deliver flowers and I had a guy make it well known via body language that he was armed as I was getting the flowers out of my truck. Best part was he was the one that ordered the fuckin things
Misfit_somewhere@reddit
We had a idiot with a drone filming a fire. helos and bombers were coming in, Helos had to rtb and a bomber was taken out of action for a couple weeks after it hit the stupid thing. Lucky no one died, but the fire did expand.
mekkab@reddit
Why do airplane tails have bullet holes? Because shooters don’t give sufficient lead. Heard that from someone who speed-taped said bullet holes on Delta jets. So this is a sadly common occurrence.
Joe_Bagadou_Nautz@reddit
I have a cousin that does wildland firefighting in the PNW and their helicopter is always getting shot at, some of the types that live out there would rather lose it all then have the government be near them
Original_Ratio@reddit
I live about 30 miles from the site. I was shocked to hear. People are making it a political thing out of it. This area of the state is probably the most likely to have people shooting at a fire fighting plane. Dry weather and high winds are resulting in fires popping up everywhere. The damage is strange but I take the experts word for it.

Hope they find the fucker and throw the book at them.

Send an A-10 to provide covering fire.
Misfit_somewhere@reddit
Find out who it was and let the place burn. Water bombers are dangerous enough to fly without bullets and more often drones now.
SwissMargiela@reddit
I mean, people shouldn’t have their property burn down just because of some dickhead neighbor
Misfit_somewhere@reddit
I just ment theirs, could even tour h it after afterward, clearly doesn't want the help.
SwissMargiela@reddit
I don’t think they can drop the flame retardant with that type of precision
This_Is_TwoThree@reddit
Embers and radiant heat also don’t respect property boundaries.
roguespectre67@reddit
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Want the firefighters to save your shit? Don’t shoot at them with a weapon designed to kill people it hits.
njsullyalex@reddit
r/imatotalpieceofshit
No actually WTF is wrong with people. Find who shot and charge them with attempted murder for everyone on board the plane
AngriestManinWestTX@reddit
I think some people are honestly just busted inside in some way or another.
I don't know if intentional malice or a complete lack of thought or care for how their actions can affect others or whether its one or both wrapped up into a concept like "evil" but some people are just bankrupt as human beings. They either hateful bastards who cannot think of anyone but themselves or are completely unable to comprehend their actions. Either way, it's frightening to know that there are people out there who shoot at a fucking water bomber that's actively fighting a fire.
sghokie@reddit
I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more frequently.

This subreddits rules say that when sharing an article to use the headline as the post title. I did that, so I'm still trying to figure out why the post was removed.
chetpajo@reddit (OP)
Not sure I understand the issue here. Your message says to provide a source, but I shared a link to a local news article. Is the news article not considered a source?
