What’s something some you do/did for others as a small act of kindness type thing?

Last week I was helping out on a response shift(police). My core role doesn’t see me doing very much traditional police work at the moment. Anyway I got to be dealing with a guy who was in a bit of a mental health spiral for various reasons, so I went into my “emergency” stash of food and gave him some sweets and crisps and stuff, nipped back to the station for some tea and coffee and a couple porridge pots. The youngster I was working with was shocked, completely unaware you could just give someone a bag of Haribos.

I did this today. Random grungy girl with cute and unusual cat leggings. She said thanks . Then a minute or two later she shouted back to say thanks again and had the biggest beautiful smile. She made me happy seeing the genuine smile. I think she was taken aback amd it took her a little while to register the compliment :)

Where I worked many years ago a friends girlfriend was going through cancer treatment & used up all his holidays to be by her side & ended up fainting in work trying to balance that & work so I gave him 4 days of my holiday entitlement

I was walking my youngest to nursery in the pouring rain at the start of the year, passed an old guy walking up the hill without a coat or any protection, soaked through. I asked if I could help, he said no, he only lived a few minutes away. I dropped my boy at nursery and rushed home. Jumped in the car and went back to the gent on the hill, demanded he get in the car and took him home. He really was only going around the corner but he’d been to a hospital appointment for his knee and the taxi had dropped him in the wrong place so was hobbling the rest of the way. He’d made little to no progress when I returned to him so lord knows how long he would have been in the cold rain for. We walked past the same guy a few weeks ago, he smiled at my boy and I’m pretty sure he didn’t know who we were but it was a nice moment.

Work early mornings at a supermarket in a town centre and usually at that time of morning theres no one else awake but the homeless, theres a disabled man with down syndrome who has been made homeless a few years ago due to his mum dying. He sleeps mostly outside the shop and I see him morning Recently the council came and took all his stuff including all his trollies and suitcases of belongings and sentimental stuff like belongings from his mother. I see and chat with him every morning, have been hounding the council (who of course deny everything) to return his stuff and have been there giving him food and drinks every morning and helping him get buy Its a small thing that only helps one person but my heart breaks for him and the situation hes in, homeless and disabled due to his mother's death, but i will do anything and everything i can to support him and help him get his stuff back Fuck this country and the way they treat homeless disabled people

Does it have to be people? If not, I make sure I top up all sorts of little vessels I have dotted around the garden for bugs to drink from. Otherwise, I’ve just started volunteering for the Cinnamon Trust and should have my first dog to walk soon. His owner is too unwell to walk him anymore, so I’ll help twice a week with walkies.

If I have a day ticket for the bus, I always leave it on the seat of the bus stop I get off at when I don’t need it anymore. If it’s a windy day I’ll try and offer it to someone directly (but people are usually too suspicious to accept) or tuck it in the frame of the bus timetable.

You’re one of the heroes. Most people don’t see it as something they want or get involved with. Maybe it hurts a little bit. Maybe it’s inconvenient. My life was saved by people like you. I thank you ever so much. I was hit by a van in 1992. If I hadn’t had available blood, I’d be dead. I had donated about 6 times beforehand, but I’m not allowed to give anymore. Shame. It’s a simple thing to do, the benefits are obvious, i don’t know why more people don’t do it. Thanks again. I’m alive because of people like you.

I'm a chocolatier. I held my first tasting session last Thursday night at a local cafe. I invited my regular customers who all turned up as it was a soft launch. They paid £10 for the ticket and I allowed them to redeem that amount as a thank you to them for always buying from me.

I’ve been volunteering with Citizens Advice two days a week while training over the last year, and honestly I’ve found it far more rewarding than I expected. You spend a lot of time helping people who are stressed, overwhelmed or simply don’t know where to turn. Sometimes it’s benefits, debt, housing, employment issues, relationship breakdowns or just understanding letters and systems that feel impossible to navigate. A few things I’ve found especially rewarding: • Helping people feel listened to when they often feel ignored elsewhere • Explaining complicated systems in plain English • Seeing how much difference small bits of practical help can make • Learning a huge amount about housing, employment rights and benefits myself • Feeling like I’m doing something genuinely useful for the local community The training is much more in-depth than I expected too. There’s a lot to learn, but it’s interesting and you feel supported while doing it. It can be emotionally draining at times, but overall it’s been one of the most worthwhile (well, apart from raising 5 kids…) things I’ve done in years.

Last week I shared an expensive uber home from the airport with 3 strangers after our bus was cancelled. They transferred me an even split of the cost each. I complained to the bus company and they reimbursed me the cost of the uber, so I tracked down the strangers on Facebook and asked for their details to send their share of the money back, instead of keeping it and making a little profit. The right thing to do but they were all like, oh wow thank you. My colleague said she’d have kept all the money.

There was a bunch of kids on a bike ride and they tried to buy a 2L water between them. The shop wasn’t excepting coins and I noticed they left without it so I went back in and bought it for them. Honestly, I had noticed how polite they were when the shop keeper said they couldn’t take cash, it was nice to see a group of kids not causing trouble!
