90s Japanese sports cars. I am a Z guy but I appreciate seeing a clean, running Supra, NSX, MR2, 3000GT VR4, RX-7. Hell, if ai see an unmolested and unmodified 240sx I get a little nostalgia nub in my pants.
BreakfastBeerz@reddit
Broncos and Jeeps, I love them. Also those slingshots and Tesla Trucks, but not for the same reason as the Broncos and Jeeps. Hummers get noticed too as do Corvettes.
VeryStableGenius66@reddit
Mercedes diesel S123's. Best damn wagons ever made.
JH_DeepThoughts@reddit
Sleepers (the best I saw was a Holden SS in 🇨🇦…when i heard the V8 was like wait what!?)
Supercars, but when they’re being driven sensibly in traffic otherwise you just notice a douchebag and don’t really care what car they’re in.
Finally any nicely done up older car where it looks like it was car the driver wanted in high school and now he has :)

Clean 86-99 Hondas
RememberWhen-2819@reddit
Prelude 86si owner and yes, I’ll agree. :)
sundaygolfer269@reddit
The 1986 Honda Prelude ended my love affair with the Porsche 911. From 1973 to 1988 I owned six 911s. I finally sold my last one in 1988, and it took almost two years to get a decent price for it. The Prelude changed my thinking completely. Reliable, comfortable, balanced, modern, and fun to drive every day without the constant drama and expense.
I still loved the sound and feel of the 911, but the Prelude made me realize there was another way to enjoy driving.
I hope the new Prelude becomes more sporty and captures some of the spirit that made the originals special.
howrunowgoodnyou@reddit
I had an 89 prelude si w 4ws. I now have a 70s 911 w a bunch of mods.
I mean, I get what you’re saying. The prelude was fun af to to throw into corners…. But the 911 just feels….. idk. Raw? Pure? It’s more of a contraption and I love the noise.
The part that bothered me the most about the prelude was it was slow AND it used premium AND it only got like 22mpg.
That still sounds ok, but compared to an integra w bolt ons that is just as fun, more practical, AND can get 30mpg…. Idk. I like the EF and integras more than the preludes. You get 30mpg and have an absolute blast driving.
LegitimateTown9974@reddit

Miata's are like road legal go karts, I love them.... ❤️❤️
VeryStableGenius66@reddit
Nah - you can still hear them crying when you put 'em in the trunk.
mcmillen@reddit
Baby goes in the trunk.
Logical-Self-3072@reddit
No they arent. They have all of the downsides of a go cart. Lightweight, hard to see, poor crash ratings, no storage or seating. with none of the benefits. easy to fix/cheap,good on gas, easy to learn how to repair, extreme handling abilities
Klar1ty@reddit
they are cheap, easy to fix, good on gas, and have insane handling. are you taking the piss?
Logical-Self-3072@reddit
Compared to an actual go cart? You are the one taking the piss
Klar1ty@reddit
they are absolutely like street legal go karts
Logical-Self-3072@reddit
Thats just an exaggeration
Klar1ty@reddit
you don’t know ball
FirehawkLS1@reddit
My AW11 MR2 definitely felt like a street legal go-kart. Any vehicle where I can stick my arm out the driver side window at 30mph and close the gas door is pretty much a go kart 🤷🤣
Healthy-Theme8261@reddit
Mid engine?
FirehawkLS1@reddit
Yeah it was the only mid engine car I've had the privilege of owning so far. Original clutch lasted until 191k
Logical-Self-3072@reddit
I take huge offense to the artificial barriers created by every or motorcycle company NOT offering something that is truly like a go cart yet street legal.

I still see good ish condition Toyota Previas. They have to be a minimum of 29 years old and there’s something about a red, manual transmission, supercharged, mid engine mini van that has a charm to it.
paypermon@reddit
Just saw an early 89's Mercedes sel that was so pristine it looked new. No idea if maybe it had been restored but not really something you'd put a lot of money into so guessing it was just all original. Anyway loved it.

I recently saw a late 90's Toyota Corolla that looked like it just rolled off the line. I was flabbergasted.

It wasn't "show room new", but I recently saw a 1st generation Dodge Caravan that wasn't a rusted out POS. All I could think of was "WTF" lol
jccaclimber@reddit
A few years ago I saw an early 80’s BWM with a Mondale/Ferraro sticker on the freeway in San Francisco . The windows were so clear and scratch free it was as if they weren’t there, the sticker looked like it had been applied that morning, and the entire rest of the exterior and visible interior were in matching showroom condition. The only thing I can think of is that it was either fully restored to that condition, or the guy drives it once a month and keeps it garaged both at home and at all destinations.
oppositelock27@reddit
Someone in my apartment building has a mint late 80’s boxy Camry which is always spotless inside and out. If I ever run across the owner I’d probably weird them out with my fangirling.

Lol, I own a 1991 Camry in pristine condition and its gotten more attention than any other car ive owned

Saw an early 90's Pontiac Grand Am this morning that looked like it just left the showroom. Even the wheels were still shiny. I had to sit down for a second, thought i was in the twilight zone

sundaygolfer269@reddit
When the Lexus LS 400 came out it blew my mind. Japanese reliability, luxury that exceeded cars costing far more, engineering precision, vault-like quiet, and technology that felt years ahead of everyone else.
It was the car that made the luxury world realize Japan wasn’t just building economy cars anymore.

I kept my early 2000s Lexus rx in pristine condition, even got it paint corrected at 20 years old. Unfortunately a teen smashed into it a year later, but my mechanic loved working on it. I always notice/love when older cars are well taken care of

“Regular” cars that were never really famous and had no reason to be preserved. I saw a ‘74 Impala rolling around town last week and it commanded more attention than a Chevelle, simply due to the “why” factor. I understand a 60s Impala, but the ones from the 70s just don’t hold the same provenance.

OB1Waltinobee@reddit
Why Wrangler drivers so damn slow? No shade, honestly Rollover risk?
Munster19@reddit
I imagine because most aren't all that sporty. They're built for off roading so they've got lower gear ratios than other cars, and probably lower from-stop torque doubled up with larger tires that are harder to spin. In my case with a 4xe I can launch pretty well for a 5500lb brick. But I just don't tend to.
Also there's just the feel. Two cars can be going the exact same speed but feel much different. Also if you want them going over 75mph, wranglers tend to wobble at that speed and thus tend keep their speed a little lower.

I think it's not a big deal when you're used to it. I'm not. I flip out when I see Lamborghinis, McLarens, or Ferraris because they're so damn rare around here. I can't imagine seeing one of those and thinking, "Meh."
bigcee42@reddit
I'm an R8 owner myself but I generally don't identify with a lot of supercar owners.
I see most of them as just people with money, not car people. It's not that car people can't buy supercars, but I feel a lot of these guys just own a new Lambo/McLaren to flex and don't know anything about the history or the engineering behind these cars.
nightmareFluffy@reddit
I've always wanted a Lamborghini Gallardo (similar to R8) because they're surprisingly affordable and I like the styling. I might end up getting an R8 because there's an independent Audi mechanic near me, and they flat out refused to service a Lamborghini. The closest independent Lamborghini mechanic is an hour drive from me, and then I have to think about how to get back home. It's little inconveniences like that which prevent me from getting the car I really want. R8 is still a great second best option though.
I haven't met too many supercar owners but I understand what you're saying. Some people really want that badge, and don't care about the car itself. I don't think someone necessarily needs to know about the history or engineering of a car to be a car person, but they do need to look beyond status. Status is meaningless to me. It doesn't mean status has no value, but it doesn't make someone respectable by default.

Anything older and well maintained. Saw a beautiful road master wagon with wood paneling the other day. Way more interesting than some exotic
nightmareFluffy@reddit
Exotics are interesting, too. I go nuts when I see a Lamborghini or Ferrari. They're pretty rare. I only see a handful every year.
But yeah, there's a station wagon with wood paneling near my house and it's absolutely stunning.
ohnonoahno@reddit
Depends on where you live maybe. I’m in south Florida and there’s multiple people who DD a lambos and RR at my kids school.
nightmareFluffy@reddit
Wow, you live in quite an area. I'd say that's highly unusual. In my entire neighborhood, from what I've seen, there's two Porsches and one Maybach but that's it. Everything else is The Standard Crossover; you know, the one that everyone buys these days. It comes in slightly different shapes and badging but it's really just one car.

2: SN95/New Edge Mustangs. Also used to own a New Edge, a 2000 model. First car I bought with my own money, so its got a special place in my heart.
3: Lastly, anything that is heavily modified. Think, street legal race car/truck. There's a guy in my area with a 1970's C10 thats got a MASSIVE blower on it and some damn near 16in wide rear tires. Wicked shit like that gets me going.

windmill09@reddit
I'm in the Bay Area. 1/3rd of the cars are Teslas. The drivers don't have experience driving anything this powerful and they do some gnarly sht like launch their cars into intersections and then immediately slam their brakes because they're going to fast. Then try to cut into lanes by accelerating but they forget that they are not THAT fast that they can defy physics and immediately accelerate 0 to 70 mph and then to 0 in 1 second.
FirehawkLS1@reddit
You'd love where I live, every 5th car on the road is a Tesla. Not gonna lie though, I still want the OG Tesla Roadster. Although a Lotus of the same vintage is probably around the same price.

Honestly it's cars that were on the road 25+ years ago. I saw a Ford Contour SVT 2 days in a row on my commute this past week. I was floored! And I saw a 4th gen Camaro a couple of weeks ago, and an old Ford Fairlane today. In a sea of newer common cars, I love seeing cars that break the monotony of that. Shows that someone was dedicated enough to care for those cars and keep them running and on the road. Don't get me wrong, it's cool to see the C8 Corvettes and some of the exotic cars where I live, but I feel a connection with the people who drive the older stuff as I am into that stuff as well.
