I loaded some very stout 158gr 357’s for my Ruger LCR. I got through the 5 rounds and my hand was tingling. The 500 is less punishing than that but there is no question the 500 has more ass behind it and blast.
It’s kinda like a 12ga shotgun. You can shoot some light target loads and then there are the 3.5” magnum turkey loads that’ll rattle your teeth. But that’s also the beauty of it that you can have that variety.
I’d agree with the grip fix. All the comments about it are purely to try and keep you safe with all of your digits intact. I load some medium hot 350gr loads for mine and that’s enough fun for part of a range session but also have the longer barrel. Work up to your comfort level and have fun.
Thanks will do and I responded respectfully to the first comments helping me out then I have people telling me I shouldn’t own guns so I’m a bit annoyed sorry if I came off like a dick not my intention
I don’t doubt that hoping I can figure out the right grip and not find out I thought I was holding it correctly and the reinstating behind me didn’t say anything
Hey man not to sound like a dick or anything but as others have said….that’s how you loose a finger. The pressure that can discharge from the rear or front of that cylinder will no joke blow your finger clean off.
My thumb wasn’t on the cylinder it’s behind I’ve shot this gun probably 50 times now all the same grip and if I was holding it incorrectly I would’ve felt something I think this video just distorts the angle
It’s a 500 magnum it’s not exactly easy to hold onto when I’m shooting regular revolvers I do not have this issue and if it was an issue anyway I think my hand would feel the brunt of it which it never has so I think I’m good just scroll and worry about yourself you can clearly see in the video I’ve gone through half a box of ammo safely
My masters is in engineering, I have one of these and a .460...
Notice how the cylinder is flying past your thumb? It's breaking your grip and that is objective evidence. You're going to catch that with your thumb - I did it fifteen years ago with a .44 magnum (that I had shot thousands of times) and immediately learned how to hold a revolver - I had never thought to look, I grew up shooting, right. It fucking hurt and wrecked half my thumb nail.
I would hold it with one hand or if you two hand, use a revolver grasp. Grab it with your dominant hand like you're going to shoot single-handed, then with your other hand, grasp your dominant hand as if you're holding it on the gun.
Here's an example from the Internet. And a site on the topic. https://revolverguy.com/revolver-grasp-techniques/
Yeah I put a box and half through it at the range I’m no expert with it obviously but if I can put 50 rounds through it without blowing off my hand I’m doing something correctly
What do you even mean one round for my life to be over I’m being completely safe and I load a single round at a time I’m completely aware of what guns can do I am just tired of all the shit from you internet “rso” that likely make the same mistakes when shooting but don’t post it.
Probably shouldn’t post videos of yourself if you can’t handle the critiques that are guaranteed to come with it. Know why you haven’t seen any of my shooting videos? Precisely for this reason lol.
Imma just don’t understand why comment when I see something wrong personally I mind my own business but I’m down for the constructive criticism but I’d pay to see half the people instructing me shoot the gun better
Homie, it’s the internet… and even worse, it’s Reddit. You should always assume there will be critiques, especially around guns let alone rollerblading. Roll with the punches. Take notes. Practice some more. Record yourself and watch it back. See if the criticisms are correct or not and then work from there.
I’ve shot the gun 60 times now the way that is apparently wrong and my hands are fine but I will still switch it up so everyone online stops having a panic attack
You can’t read. You should really stop now. Would never wish an injury on anyone but with how you’re acting. Make sure you’re the only one that faces the consequences of your poor decisions
Both my thumbs were behind the cylinder it just looks like that from the angle of the video only do my finger go in front of cylinder after it’s fire from the recoil. I’ve shit this gun 50-60 times now all the same grip and if I was holding it wrong I would n longer have a hand
You're getting drug here a bit, but that's social media life. Shooting any revo let alone max power, requires a very different grip from shooting auto loaders.
I'm a proponent of the tucked thumbs. It feels bonkers if you mostly shoot semi-autos properly.
And agreed, I rented an 8" and 20 rounds, had a few minutes of fun and [granted, much heavier gun] was surprised at how (tame is not the word) less violent and more enjoyable it was.
I bought this snub nose impulsively and I was expecting it to fly back out of my hands I’m sure I do need to change up my grip a bit but I’m shooting it safely for everyone around me which is more important

It really all depends on what load you are shooting.

I did the 700gn or 750gn. Still wasn't near as bad as I had been led to believe (granted it was a 12")
I could have shot a lot more from that than my 357 snub

3.5 high brass turkey loads literally start lifting my front leg up when I shoot them.
Recoil management is less about can I hold it like a big boy and more of a physics equation
Zealousideal_End6437@reddit (OP)
Yeah I was researching the Buffalo bore loads but based off the comments I think I need to fix my grip before I up the pier

Revolver shooting requires a thumbs down/over, or thumbs behind. Thumbs up, forward, or on the cylinder can result in thumbs exploding. Careful

Load up a full cylinder and come back with your report.

I found .44 magnum to not be that harsh of a recoil but the blast wave off the muzzle to be horrible. Like making my eyes go dry behind my glasses.
If I lived in grizzly country I'd shoot it enough to stay proficient with it but I'd never shoot it for pleasure.
