Reporting in to let you all know, I threw my back out making risotto.

Not sure how much more there is to add but apparently I've reached the age where standing and stirring is too strenuous. 🫤
And the risotto was under- done and a bit of a disappointment.
HedyHarlowe@reddit
This is why I don’t make risotto and stick to basic bitch pasta. Because when you go full fancy that’s when you’re vulnerable
mookpa2@reddit
This thread is the best, belly laughs all round.
nikki815@reddit
I hurt my knee while sleeping last week. Utter disbelief.
mookpa2@reddit
😂😂😂😂😂
malai556@reddit
I have tendinitis in my rotator cuff. My husband asked is disbelief how I was the one with the rotator cuff injury. Finally decided it’s because the way I sleep on my side/shoulder.
mobster1@reddit
i found out 3 weeks ago, rotator cuff injuries are most common in women in their mid 40s.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
My knee has begun to randomly dislocate. 🫤
gimmeslack12@reddit
I keep having to hold the container further away to read it.
UsernamesSuck33@reddit
The phone too, because I refuse to increase the font size. I tried a pair of my friend’s readers the other day and let’s just say that I need an eye exam. I’ve had 20/20 vision my entire life.
mookpa2@reddit
Increase the font!
kimness1982@reddit
My husband and I share my reading glasses in restaurants
gimmeslack12@reddit
My wife and I have contests to see who can read things closer. She’s barely edging me out these days (same age).
Neurob4psych@reddit
That's a well known issue. As you get older your arms get shorter
AmputeeHandModel@reddit
I'm just a little bit near-sighted and have decent vision overall still, but I swear they're making the print on everything tinier.
DieAloneWith72Cats@reddit
I wore contacts my entire life, at 45 my eyes decided they didn’t need them anymore. I somehow have perfect vision now. So odd.
Instead of turning grey, my naturally blond hair turned brown.
I’ve somehow read the aging instructions incorrectly
mookpa2@reddit
Oh darling. I feel you, I turned to get out of bed a strained my shoulder
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Gonna have to start a xennial recovery unit!
mookpa2@reddit
😂😂😂😂

One of us! One of us!
Primary-Strawberry-5@reddit
Wait till you do it sneezing. It’s happened to me 3 times in the past year.
burgundyblue@reddit
Yup. Also popped a rib out sneezing once. But I sneeze about 12 times in a row, so I’m sure I’ll eventually die of sneeze induced aneurism of some kind.
basiden@reddit
Yep, couldn't walk for two weeks because I sneezed while leaning into the trunk of my car
lnc_5103@reddit
I've thrown out my rib sneezing a couple of times 😫
AmputeeHandModel@reddit
I need to adjust my posture and make sure I'm sitting/standing up straight and ready for impact or I'll hurt y back. Less due to age and more to being out of shape and having bad posture, I'm sure. I stretch daily, though. Well, almost.
Fairycharmd@reddit
echoing the sneezing one. I would prefer not having to explain that one again, and yet apparently I turned my right when I sneeze! and my back thinks that is the stupidest thing I could possibly do.
sigh (ow ow ow)
Smurf_Paste@reddit
Solidarity.
jradio@reddit
Reaching behind my neck to pull my shirt off. Twice now in two weeks.
PizzaDonutCoolness@reddit
I was eating cereal this morning and my back just randomly seized up between bites and now I have to sleep on a heating pad on an 80 degree day.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
That sucks! But the heating pad is a great idea!
mobster1@reddit
I feel you. 3 weeks ago I tore my rotator cuff opening a jar of ortega taco sauce.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Oh damn! 🤣
TrustAffectionate966@reddit
I’ve thrown my back out making my bed.
☠️💦
BigPoppaStrahd@reddit
I want to talk about the risotto. Do you use wine when cooking the rice, or do you use lemon juice? I have always used wine, but another recipe said to use lemon juice in its place and it was game changing
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Both! Wine and broth for the rice and then finish with lemon juice and zest!
BigPoppaStrahd@reddit
LOL! Never forget the broth. That is key. I had an acquaintance who made risotto once and since one of the guests was vegetarian and the cook didn’t like veggie broth, they made the entire thing using JUST wine as the cooking liquid. It was horrid.
anakusis@reddit
I've thrown out my back pushing too hard when I poo
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lucky_Louch@reddit
I used to love sleep. Now I worry every time I go to bed not knowing what pains/strains I will wake up with. Turned 41 and magically got horrible sciatica that just won't quit. Good times.
Lo-Squalo-Monster@reddit
I threw my back out sneezing
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
🤣🤣🤣 that seems to be a common theme
40_40-Club@reddit
I couldn’t move my neck for a week after drying my hair too aggressively with a towel.
I am so, very, careful now with that dangerous weapon.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
🤣🤣🤣
FormidableMistress@reddit
I did the same thing to my neck hand whipping this cream cheese to make a blueberry cheesecake for a "man" I should have poisoned instead.
I think we all collectively need to do less. 😂
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Cheesecake is my absolute favorite!!! You could actually poison that and I'd still knowingly eat that!!! Check my profile last year I made a carrot cake / Cheesecake combo!
Lcky22@reddit
I pulled a muscle in my shoulder shooting a basketball on Wednesday and it still hurts
nopester24@reddit
Well serves you right for treating your body like an amusement park! Who do you think you are, Evel Knievel??
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
George No! What are you doing?!
braywarshawsky@reddit
I did it once literally putting my shoes on while sitting on the corner of my bed. Went to reach down to tie the shoelaces and felt a pop in my lower back.
I was done for a week.
SilverAsparagus2985@reddit
Oh that's all? Try just sitting on the side of the bed after waking up.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Hahaha! You might be my spirit animal!
the__ghola__hayt@reddit
Threw out my back bending down to put on socks. Tore cartilage in my knee reaching for a shoe while sitting.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
I've done that one too!🤣🤣🤣 But it was picking up a sock
thelaineybelle@reddit
My (44F) brother (46) slept over one night and dislocated his shoulder rolling over in bed! That shit was crazy to watch. Grabbed my toddler and we sped to the ER.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Lol! Poor guy!!!
actionerror@reddit
My doctor told me it’s statins time!
8last@reddit
Threw out my shoulder jumping away from a rat. This is life now.
degeneratesumbitch@reddit
Picked up pants. Back fucked.
elkniodaphs@reddit
I just got back from the hospital, diagnosed with costochondritis because I bent down to catch a cat. I have three weeks of chest pain ahead of me from bending over.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Ouch! You got me beat!
elkniodaphs@reddit
Nah, we're all winners on this day.
New_Stats@reddit
Yous need to get into yoga or just general stretching and do it before you do anything
Once you get into the habit it starts to become an addiction so it's easy to remember to do because you crave it
Ltimbo@reddit
I threw my back out a couple years ago taking a shower getting ready for thanksgiving. I was supposed to see family but I called to cancel and spent all weekend laid up. It’s sucked. Fortunately I wasn’t hosting.
trustme1maDR@reddit
This is less embarrassing then when I threw my back out looking for something in the fridge.
There are no-stir methods out there. I haven't tried it personally, but it's a thing!
Embarrassed_Key_4539@reddit
I have often wished there was some sort of motorized stirring mechanism to assist with risotto and French onion soup, that stirring is a real pain in the ass - or back, in your case. Hope you feel better soon!
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
I actually saw something on insta but it looked gimmicky. A little thing that kinda slowly spun around in the pan.
Embarrassed_Key_4539@reddit
I’ve seen that too but it looked shoddy, maybe some day I’ll develop something
a_solid_6@reddit
How do y'alls parents react to you beginning to are? Mine are dismissive when I mention things like this because compared to 70-year-old problems it's light. I just don't even mention my ailments anymore because they act like I'm being silly, despite the fact that they moaned constantly about getting older when they were my age.
UsernamesSuck33@reddit
All of my older relatives are very dismissive of any physical ailment that I have because in their mind, I’m still a child. I just happen to be almost 50.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Ya. I haven't mentioned it. Lol
ShotWin8124@reddit
That reminds me, I haven't done my stretches today 🫠
FistoMagnifico@reddit
I feel for you. I ended up having surgery because I dared to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer.
kimness1982@reddit
I threw my back doing laundry last spring 5 days before a beach vacation. I had to completely surrender and let my husband do all the packing and it worked out just fine.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
That is a dangerous activity.
OutOfEffs@reddit
I was baking yule cookies one year and doing Gina's dance to "Sugar High" when I threw my back out. That batch got a little crispy.
Mascing_Chaos@reddit
Ive pulled my neck walking down the stairs, drying my hair after a shower, lifting a bag of litter and checking my side mirror while driving
imtooldforthishison@reddit
I blew out my whole knee and required surgery doing a lunge....
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
Note to self: no exercise
whats_for_lunch@reddit
Congrats. High impact sports will do that to you.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
🤣🤣🤣
tatertotsnhairspray@reddit
I threw mine out yesterday because I leaned over to shut the blinds lol
dequiallo@reddit
I fucked up my neck rinsing shampoo out of my hair. Migraine for 2 days.
AmputeeHandModel@reddit
Tension headaches are awful.
Relative_Progress946@reddit
Been doing that since I was 12. It sucks having a bad back.
MattieRiley@reddit
I feel your pain😞

I sneezed while bending over two summers ago and though I was going to die. Luckily this was not the first time this happened because I had an old back injury, but I had to sit in my dining room chair to watch TV for the next week and that day my friend had to come over to feed the cat because I couldn’t even bend to do that.
gooch_norris_@reddit
This is a poem
Melodic-Mistake-7695@reddit
currently laid out from sitting too long at a lecture.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
I feel that. Sitting too long, standing too long, sleeping too long. Everything seems to be a hazard at this point 🤣
glorio_mainframe@reddit
They should a movie out of this. It would be really good.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
🤣
FaithlessnessThin359@reddit
I’m at the age where my friend’s dad got out of bed wrong and cracked a vertebrae and had to wear some contraption for a while. I think about that every morning where my neck feels stiff.
C1sko@reddit
Damn.
TinyGIR@reddit
I got out of my car wrong. And the seat was exactly the correct height.
perpetual__ghost@reddit
I pulled something in my jaw while eating cake last week.
PanAndFlame@reddit (OP)
🤣🤣🤣 Ok. You got me beat. My jaws are still in working order, probably too much so
