We use Samsara. I just came out of the Sleeper after 7 hrs, and went Off-Duty. Why, now, is my drive clock counting down? I say again, my DRIVE clock (29 mins) is counting down independently of the shift clock (43 mins). Why?

because Samsara is hot garbage
onlyBotsdownvote-me@reddit (OP)
I think this is the correct answer. It's not following the laws. It is doing things that are more restrictive than the laws.
ghostedbydefault@reddit
I found that restarting the app sometimes fixes the weird issues.
Troubador222@reddit
samsara put me in violation the 8 hour rule once just randomly and out of the blue when I had over 2 hours before ai would have been so. its also switched a bunch of our trucks oy of driving on duty when we were driving down the road.
VikingLander7@reddit
Latest update from samsara seems to be really glitching this week I’ve noticed.
Dense_Particular3134@reddit
And slow as hell to respond to duty changes
CobraWasTaken@reddit
I always thought samsara was slow but it's actually the cheap ass tablets that companies get. My company gave me an actual Samsung Galaxy tablet and it's not bad at all now
ghostedbydefault@reddit
I've got a nice tablet that runs a tons of apps fast, Samsara has always sucked
VikingLander7@reddit
Slow with any button
robexib@reddit
What happens at the ten-hour mark? If your 11 and 14 reset, don't worry about it.
As long as it's either off-duty or sleeper, it should count to the 10.
onlyBotsdownvote-me@reddit (OP)
Yes, you are technically correct. But there are times when I may need to turn this into a "split sleeper," but I can't because my clock is counting down.
robexib@reddit
Then that's an issue you take up with the desk jockies. Some ELD's don't like you trying to do a split, and some companies disable it regardless.
In either case, your only real options for breaks at that point are the 30, 10, and 34. Make sure the planner is aware that the ELD doesn't want you using splits, and to not plan it n you using them.
mwonch@reddit
Mine has it disabled by default. They activated it on request. Their reason is, for some odd reason, too many cannot properly split the sleeper and kept fucking up loads. I told them I use it only to extend the clock during a live load that takes 2+ hours (because I WILL take the 10 unless going home). I also know how to do the split, but made it clear to them I will really do one if "I" decide to do it.
They activated it for me anyway.
It's likely OP just needs to request it.
onlyBotsdownvote-me@reddit (OP)
I don't work for such a big company as to have "planners." I'm asking an I.T. question. This seems to be a glitch in the software.
kane_eightee@reddit
When you split your sleeper, the longer period has to be in sleeper. Doesn’t matter if you’re parked at a hotel, the longer of the split needs to be logged as “sleeper”.
And with Samsara, the timers will all continue to countdown until you’ve hit the criteria for a split.
Also, check your app settings. Make sure the option to “display split toggle” is on. I haven’t looked at the settings since the recent (and horrible) app re-design, but mine seems to have carried by setting over from the previous layout.
dontdoxmebro2@reddit
We use Geotab and our drive and 14 hour clocks count down together once they match.
Gr00veChild@reddit
Platform science has started doing that with the 14hr if you're doing a split and switch from OD to SB or vise versa. Then half of these companies safety depts don't know the HOS laws/how to read a raw log. 🙄
whit_0dinSon@reddit
Edit it in log back to sleeper and wait for reset . Never come out of sleeper until time is reset
onlyBotsdownvote-me@reddit (OP)
But that is not the law, which is why I'm asking the question. You're not required to be in the sleeper for 10 hours. I'm allowed to bounce back-and-forth between Sleeper and Off-Duty every 5 minutes, if I want to.
deezkeys098@reddit
“Always use sleeper berth never off duty Samara shares split breaks if both are not sleeper berth.” These were the exact words from the safety guy at the first company I was trained at
onlyBotsdownvote-me@reddit (OP)
It wasn't even a split break. It has been a solid break.
Mechanik_J@reddit
Sleeper must have paused your 14 hour clock. Now it must think you're doing a split.
But once you finish 10 hours you get all your time back...
tvieno@reddit
This sounds like the right answer.
FCMatt7@reddit
Never had that problem. The long break has to be all sleeper by law. Short break can be either and include PC
jacksir1849@reddit
While in sleeper for longer than 2 hrs it will pause your clock for split, if you take it off sleeper it will continue to count down because it doesn't know if your doing a split or full break anymore
Wasabi-Kungpow@reddit
Wrong. To pause it does not need to be sleeper. S
jacksir1849@reddit
I'm aware, I was speaking about how samsara does it. In my experience Samsara is funky. Also disclaimer I haven't used samsara in a couple years.
onlyBotsdownvote-me@reddit (OP)
I understand that the 14-hr clock may count down. But the drive clock should hold steady, until the shift clock counts down so far as to push the drive clock down.
Raeezordazetoo@reddit
Probably because you haven't registered a full break yet. Hard to say for sure. Just wait until your 10 is up and if it doesn't reset then you need to get in touch with support.
UOLZEPHYR@reddit
This is the answer, the system tracks them separately until that 10 hour mark is reached. Once 10 hoirs of A or B or both are hit the clock resyncs up and gives you your time back
StandForAChange@reddit
That’s just what the dumb ass samsara does. Happens everyday to me
polarjunkie@reddit
Showing you how much time you would have if you took a split break. Just finish your 10
Unfair_Fisherman_605@reddit
Depends on your tablet I noticed if I used the company tablet Samsung galaxy tab E, Samsara was glitching as hell like this. It would just glitch out and throw me into drive status when I was clearly parked. Or while driving all of sudden would go into off duty mode. I switched to an IPad Mini and now have not had the same weird problems.
Capn_T_Driver@reddit
I haven’t used Samsara in years, so the only thing I can think of is the software believes you moved, or has decided that it’s going to be a brat and count down until it sees you complete three hours in off duty and/or sleeper to finish the split break.
Distinct-Swan-5478@reddit
not familiar with samsara specifically but sounds like there might be some kind of glitch in how it's tracking your duty status transitions. sometimes these eld systems get confused when switching between sleeper berth and off duty, especially if there was any delay in logging the status change
could be worth checking if the sleeper berth time actually registered properly in system - maybe it only counted part of those 7 hours? or there might be some automatic drive time calculation running in background that didn't reset when you went off duty
probably best to contact whoever handles your eld support at company, this kind of timing issue can mess up your logs pretty bad if it keeps happening
