I actually just saw Deryck Whibley last month. I was at an Electric Callboy concert in LA, and they do a cover of Still Waiting, and he was a surprise guest who came out and did just the one song with them. He looked great, like he was having a really good time being back on stage even if it was only for one song.

Yeah. It seems like that is my generations way to go out. Ive lost or almost lost many friends to alcohol. One was pretty much dead, got sober and alive, then started up again. We all started drinking in High School, or even Junior High. Fucked up.

I am an alcoholic who has been sober about 12 years now.

Was never a huge Sum 41 fan exactly, but we saw them during their last show. They were great. Put a fantastic live show, interacted with the audience, seemed happy to be there and everything.

I was working a showcase at Canadian Music Week probably around 2007. Show was over and a bunch of us had gone outside to have a smoke. The entrance to the club was on a quieter side street rather than the main road on the other side of the building. This limo came around the corner and stopped in front of the club. One of the guys from Swollen Members (Mad Child maybe?) popped up out of the sun roof, then one of the doors opened and Derek from Sum 41 leaned out and puked all over the curb. The door closed, the swollen member got back in and they drove away.

No, like I said at least one of the guys from Swollen Members was in there with him. There were other people too but I couldn’t tell who. Someone else said they saw Greig Nori from Treble Charger which would make sense - he ran Bumstead Entertainment or whatever it was called and managed at least Deryck if not the band at the time.

I saw them once at the Guitar Center in Hollywood. They really did seem in love, they were holding hands. She smiled and waved at me and my friend as they pulled out of the parking lot cause we were totally staring lol. We had our equipment with us too so at least we didn’t look like crazed fans haha.

I loved both of them. Sum 41 was very successful but had a bit more "punk cred" than Blink 182.

I'll never forget seeing Sum 41 in a smaller venue between the release that first EP and All Killer No Filler. That show was so fun; they did a bunch of goofy-ass choreographed jumps and guitar flips.

So back in the day, a local extreme metal band (because black metal purists will complain) called Lords of the Manor were allegedly handing out demos in the parking lot of a Sum41 show. Awhile later, Sum41 comes out with "Still Waiting", which sounds suspiciously like "Below the Breathless Black" by LotM. "Below the Breathless Black" was initially released in 2000 on "The End is to Begin", and then re-recorded and released again on "The Blood of Time" in 2003.

Anyhow, they never sued basically because they figured the legal costs would be more than they could manage, and moved on with their lives.

Avril has been super supportive of him, and helpful in his getting and staying sober. She may serial marry musicians, but the splits seem to be amicable.
