Is 4 hours enough to transit in Heathrow?

Hi folks! I will be flying from Edinburgh to LHR Terminal 5 (landing at 10:30 am) and have a connecting flight to Toronto from Terminal 2 at 2:30 pm. Different tickets and I will have a checked bag with me. Some online searches tell me this is not enough time to transit time. Can locals please give me a more realistic sense of whether 4 hours is enough or not?

should be fine, just hurry

Yes.
You probably have time to transit terminals and have a proper meal.
The minimum connection time is 90 minutes, though, personally, I’d recommend more.

More than enough time to exit, and re check in again.

More than enough time. I personally aim for 2-2.5 hours at Heathrow, as security there is generally quite fast and I don't really care for the shopping. You will be comfortably in that window, if not exceeding it.
The only risk with different tickets is that if your first flight is heavily delayed such that you miss your second flight, you won't get any refund / rescheduling for it. But I assume you know that already.

Yes, I’m a Canadian and will be able to use the e-gates. Thank you for your help!
