Being happy is partially a muscle u have to practice and act the part, its not something that just comes as a result of good stuff happening. Sounds corny but try to hype yourself up and smile more and etc. Of course there has to be a balance between actually good stuff happening and behaving in a happy way. U can be bit demotivated by being too happy tho which can backfire and make its so u get less good stuff so be mindful if you get good at it.
Fake it till you make it gang. I was pretty lonely and unhappy with my life until college, i tried to fake being happy and outgoing to not be as lonely and it became real after a while. i do sometimes fail to act like that and my life feels awful again but i can kinda forget about it when im with other people and having fun.
I have that same issue but it comes from becoming comfortably single for long periods of time. I've only had a few relationships spread between periods of time being single, but when I meet someone and it goes past the first date, I start overthinking the situation and want to back out. Seeing someone reciprocate and be upfront is not what I'm used to so it always freaks me out because a selfish feeling comes over me that now I need to compromise and start looking out for someone else.
Anon doesnt realize that another person cannot fix whats missing from your own character and that you need to realize it yourself through self acceptance.

Anon should instead realize he is gay and need a bf instead

This is actually a pretty good advice. You can trick your brain to be happy if you smile. It sounds silly but it works.

You need to be happy with yourself before you can be happy with someone else. That doesn't mean you can't be lonely, but you should overwise be happy.
