Im upgrading my entire pc and the one thing im stuck on is the cpu is it better to get the newer one which is better and or stick with the older one which is cheaper

Pairing a X3D CPU with a 5070 to play at 1440p seems kind of silly.

Really? Why lol

Yes, X3D chips are the best gaming CPUs on the market, but only when paired with high-end GPUs do they really shine. For most games, there is probably <10% uplift between between a 9800X3D and a 9700X. using a 5070.

Depending on price, if the 9800X3D is more then $50 then no, you won't notice the difference with a 5070, both CPUs are more then enough.

Just checked it’s exactly 50 more worth?

For $50 i would go for the 9800x3d, there are some games where the newer 9800x3d performs slightly better and this will give you some better performance if you get a newer/faster gpu later on.

Gotcha
TokageLife@reddit
If the price delta is only $50 you are trolling if you don't go with the 9800x3d. The second you play a CPU limited game you will be glad you spent the extra.

7800x3d 5070 imo if you play 1080p games and have a very high refresh monitor like 240hz+ perhaps get the 9800x3d.

I play 1440p on a 180hz

7800x3d for sure then.

depend on your game and are you planning to upgrade gpu or not. are you playing on 1080p/1440p/4k resolution. single screen/dual/triple. i build 9800 with 4060 like last year because i wanted 50 series gpu. mostly just on single 24" 1080p monitor for simracing games. now , im pairing my 9800 with 5080 and upgrade my monitor to triple 32" 1440p and im happy. no more pc upgrade for couple years at least

I just upgraded from 3060 to 5070 so I plan on keeping the 5070 for a bit
