Who the fuck signed off on getting rid of the whale mural

Who approved this, and how do we vote them out of whatever position they are in.
They did this for an ad, that you could have literally fucking put on a banner.
I would reckon a majority of people in Dallas don’t actually give a fuck about the World Cup being here anyways. Most of us are just trying to survive in the city with the highest inflation rate in the country and 0 support from the local governments to do anything to help ease the strain of an exploding population.
Fuck whomever did this.

The whale mural was on a private building - do you want us to dictate how you paint your walls?
What an insane take.

Boooooo
jffadvisors@reddit
It’s not the city’s building. The city, nor you, get a vote on it.
and Dallas is FAR from the city with the highest inflation rate.
OkInternal1099@reddit (OP)
It was donated by a famous muralist, and the muralist was not told. Someone signed off on it.
Corgisarethebest123@reddit
Dallas doesn’t have the highest inflation rate in the country. Seattle is the highest. Where are you getting that information from?
OkInternal1099@reddit (OP)
Oh sorry, #10. Top 5 if you include the metroplex. My mistake.

Anecdotal experience im sure
smokybbq90@reddit
It's a privately owned building. As stupid as painting over it was I don't understand why people think Dallas City Council has anything to do with this.
gforguapo@reddit
This, lived in Dallas my whole life never knew about it
smokybbq90@reddit
To be fair it had apparently been covered by canvas ads for a decade anyways.
shedinja292@reddit
It's been visible for years

Only occasionally and this would have been a sufficient way to project whatever the new message is. Regardless of the opinions of those who weren’t familiar with the mural, it was absolutely a cherished symbol of those of us in the downtown area. The wail wall was my view for 5 years and I’m honestly appalled that this happened.

Dallas, or suburbs?

Again rich people don't gaf

Downtown resident. Yeah, it’s been known about.

100% accurate. Damn.... thank you for saying this. Seriously.

Start with ddi -- they surely helped or entirely facilitated.

I had a friend in town this weekend and we drove by this and talked about why a bunch of whales were painted there. "Does the aquarium have whales?"
And it was so pretty but very random and I genuinely had never noticed it before. Happy that happened right before it came down. Always a bummer to see interesting art fall to advertisement junk.
h4tchb4ck@reddit
Why are you dicks claiming no one knew about the mural a week ago? It's been in the middle of downtown for almost 30 years and some of us have loved it for a very long time.
nylestandish@reddit
Ah yes, Dallas the city next to the ocean and known for whales! All these people complaining didn’t know the mural was there a week ago.
The owner of the building got paid a lot of money to cover a mural barely anyone cared about with a new mural. Rage!
BSN_tg_bgg@reddit
I hate soccer. This made me hate the sport more.
OkRelief2334@reddit
wait they actually painted over the whale for some world cup bullshit? that mural was there for years and was actually good art
this is exactly why we can't have nice things in this city
BSN_tg_bgg@reddit
Got to appeal to the international community but they can’t show what the city actually looks like and the didn’t like Jerryworld’s sunken suites so they ordered the field to be elevated because somehow that would interfere with kicking a ball around for ~90 minutes.

Looking forward to watching the World Cup, but it’s just a few weeks. Temp banner would have been better.
