Lasers…

I’ve seen several posts like this recently. They always wind up saying “I hope this person is caught”…
That rarely, if ever, happens. ATC will ask you the general area and ask if you were injured. Then you simply proceed. Maybe some areas take it more seriously… but I’ve yet to find them.
The times people get caught are when it happens to be a law enforcement helicopter or something.
This is an example. Happened again about two weeks after in a totally different area. Seems to be an increasing trend.

Why do people do this? Like what’s the gain here?

Wish I knew. I think it’s becoming more well known that it’s a crime and that in and of itself is enough for people to do it.

Phoenix???? Every fucking night?

Yeah dude. When I first heard of this in the military, I thought it was something terrorists did to us to get us to crash. Fast forward a couple decades and it happens more here.
Wild.

Terrorists? Interesting.

A not insignificant minority of people lack any form of impulse control. These are the same people that do stupid shit on the road. They only think about what’s happening in that moment. They can’t plan for the future. Their brains don’t work that way. Basically, dogs.

Small penis and no girlfriend is the precise reason

They want the pilot to do it back. Like asking a big rig to honk. /s

I’ve thought of this too. I don’t think it’s a crime for an airplane to laze the ground…

I think it's the same mentality that fills highway signs, cactus (out west), and any other thing full of bullet holes. Assholes just want to shoot stuff and see if they can hit it, and they get off on causing the damage.

I’m guessing the explanation involves the word “chemtrails”.

I always assumed dumb kids doing a tiktok challenge but this might be the explanation.

Just googling green lasers and it appears they operate at a specific wavelength that couldn’t they incorporate some kind of shielding for it? Better yet, give the pilots some laser safety glasses to wear at approach. To me I’d hope the airlines have.

I hope they catch the culprit and put him in jail.
xerivon@reddit
Fun fact: A laser has never crashed an airplane.
Professor-Submarine@reddit
They never do

How dare you
dohzer@reddit
Which general area was this?
EliteEthos@reddit (OP)
Texas
stevecostello@reddit
That’s VERY general. 🤣
EliteEthos@reddit (OP)
A major city in Texas?

I wish it would be possible to send the footage in real time or stream to law enforcement so they can act on it in a timely fashion.

You and me both. I have better photos for the area from the air and even located it on maps…
As a former cop, the issue is that I can actually identify the person doing it.
In the videos I’ve seen of police helicopters that have gotten hit, they are able to guide officers on the ground directly to the person using the laser and they are caught in the act. I don’t have that ability in a Cessna 150 unfortunately.

A flight out of BOS was hit by lasers a couple hours ago too.

I was posting in response to that post. This incident happened in February.
