Hard to say, how’d the shotgun fair? What make and model?

Winchester model 97. Bolt came back and the Slide bar disconnected from the carrier and the carrier was stuck in the up position. Got it fully disassembled and everything looked fine however after I put it back together it will not stay locked. I’ve seen pictures of model 97s that have had oob detonations and they usually crack. I will be taking it to a gunsmith.

Was it worn out anywhere? Like the bolt or sear or hammer? Were you slam firing?

Nope. The gun was in very good shape(hopefully it still is) I don’t like slam firing because of stuff like this.

How old was the ammo?

About a year or two old. I think the firing pin may have been sticking because afterwards when I disassembled the gun I noticed it was a little gummy. It was still free floating though.

That’s a possibility if it was stuck forward in bolt
