No love for the current C8 Corvettes? They're awfully expensive by the time they land down here in Australia, but they're a phenomenal bit of engineering for the price they sell in the US.
All the c8s are great, and likely they are the best value for performance sports cars ever built (no matter what version you buy).
I still think the c6 Z cars are probably a bit more special in certain ways though. Lighter weight, more more character and all of the Z cars were manual only.
The C6 gave Corvette a modern racing platform, the Z could roll with super cars, and the discourse was historically polarizing amongst the enthusiast communities.
On the one hand, it kickstarted the price hike for classic Corvettes almost overnight. And it also brought in a whole new group of young buyers, and propelled Corvettes into 21st century of GT and endurance racing.
They are absolutely great cars especially the Z06 and ZR1 but they are so common place, at least where I live that I personally would get way more excited to see a C6/C7 ZR1 than I would a C8 ZR1.
When I was in high school I worked for a local body shop. The owner was pretty infamous for his work and quality so we had a lot of cool shit come through the shop.
He had a buddy who decided it would be a good idea to take a 1st gen Tahoe and drop an ls9 in it. He brought it by one day. It was the ultimate sleeper. Looked bone stock, but with an ls9 and an insane drive train setup. Dude put over 100k into this Tahoe.
Ended up selling it on bring a trailer years later at a massive loss.
I mean it’s not really a loss. You build the car and put that money in for the love of it knowing you’re not gonna make much of that money back. The fun you get while owning it is what you’re paying for with the price delta between what you put in and what you get back.
I’ve built vehicles for profit and MAN you gotta be very tight with the money to not take a loss.
Thats why you do that shit to a clapped out Tahoe, swap a 4l80e with most of a Transgo shift kit in it and leave everything else alone. It'll still be just as fast, hurt MORE feelings, and you won't have to worry about selling it for a massive loss.

The C6 ZR1 might genuinely be the best sports car GM ever built

This is the cycle of corvettes. Give it a few years

I think a lot of people would argue that the C6 Z06 was a better sports car than the ZR1, but the ZR1 was a better middle finger to Europe.
