this might be a hall sensor issue, the controller might not be seeing the hall sensors so it is confused on which was the wheel is supposed to turn and does this. it could be a easy fix of just unplugging and plugging the motor cable back in.
Do you mean the 3 big wires (blue/yellow/green) to the controller and or the small 6 wires that are wired to a small clip? In both cases I have disconnect them and reconnected them several times.
i see, if you did reconnect them and it didnt fix the issue it could be the controller. does the display show any error message? it could be like E 07 or E (number).

Sounds like your only choose really is to contact happy run and see if they can five you a replacement controller.
