Baronvonkludge@reddit
Currently have enough Kirkland synth motor oil in the garage to last 4 years.
light_switch33@reddit
And it was just on sale too.
Baronvonkludge@reddit
That’s when I bought it.👍
IlLupoSolitario@reddit
Guess I'm probably gonna bump my next oil change up a few weeks to try and beat the upcharge.
KeaboUltra@reddit
Just got mine done yesterday thankfully
RegionRatHoosier@reddit
Did mine a few weeks ago & next paycheck I'm going to pick up enough oil for my next oil change
NiceGuysFinishLast@reddit
Just bought enough oil for the next 3 changes for both cars + the motorcycle.
Might be overkill since I already have enough to do the next 2 for all 3 vehicles in the garage, but fuck it, can't hurt to be prepared.
SchlumpG0d@reddit
Prople like you will aggravate the shortage. Enough for the next was good dude. But fuck it you got yours right
NiceGuysFinishLast@reddit
Enough for the next would be like... A couple months from now. I'm on a 3K mile road trip currently. You think supply will be back up in 8 months? Trump has 2.5 more years at minimum to fuck with our oil supply. I got enough to last me and my family about 2.5 years. We'll see what it looks like then.
I generally keep a year's worth in the garage, oil and filters. I'm not exactly hoarding.
SchlumpG0d@reddit
I read it as you just went out and bought enough for three oil changes, did you do that over some time or like yesterday? If it’s bad enough they are telling customers and you did that then it is panic buying and fucking your community over I get it but don’t pretend it’s not a dick move
NiceGuysFinishLast@reddit
I keep 2 oil changes per car and now motorcycle (just bought it 2 months ago) worth of filters and oil in the garage at all times. Not a prepper thing, I'm just forgetful and have started an oil change and realized I didn't have a new filter before, so now I stock extras so even if I fuck up, I'm covered.
I did just go to Amazon and order enough oil for both cars and my bike to cover us for another 2 years total. But again, I do 2 oil changes a year on the cars, and maybe 3 on the motorcycle.
And that order was 2 jugs of 0w20 for the cars and 2 jugs of 10w40 for the bike. I didn't exactly load up or anything.
5Lv8@reddit
People like you should prep harder
SchlumpG0d@reddit
I did that’s why I’m not panic buying like these dipshits that’s literally what I’m fucking saying lmfao
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
💯. F this guy, username checks out.
Free-Huckleberry-965@reddit
I will also go help cause this shortage
squirrel8296@reddit
Also, oil has a shelf life, even synthetic. If enough oil to do 5 changes will go bad before it gets used.
NiceGuysFinishLast@reddit
Shelf life is like 5 years. I do 2 oil changes a year for the cars, 3 for the bike.
nelsonalgrencametome@reddit
Yeah I did mine about two weeks back and I guess I'm going to go grab some this weekend now.
KeaboUltra@reddit
I was thinking of doing that. I get fully synthetic but wouldn't hurt to have the next one covered while it's cheap
existing_for_fun@reddit
Got mine done this past Monday. Did all my maintenance needed, including spark plugs and everything.
I usually don't do the full recommended stuff because of the cost, but I just said fuck it. Better safe than sorry.
IdioticPrototype@reddit
Fortunately I just did mine. sigh
-illusoryMechanist@reddit
Uh oh
CinematicLiterature@reddit
I have to say, that’s actually refreshingly grounded messaging, and surprisingly human. I recognize it’s still CEO-babble but still… better than the whole DEAR EMPLOYEE IN TRYING TIMES HARD DECISIONS MUST BE MADE option.
Furseal469@reddit
I think it was written by AI, so probably not human at all, but made to sound more human
wwaxwork@reddit
I felt the same way. Couched in CEO speak as you said, but at least they're coming up with a plan now and not flapping around panicking.
Anutka25@reddit
Agreed! It was candid and provided an action plan.
Big_Fortune_4574@reddit
I felt the same. It’s very detailed and outlines the steps they’re taking. And I mean what else are they supposed to do anyway, they don’t make oil
Ornery-Sheepherder74@reddit
lol. “I’m 100% not worried about the worst shortage of all time” god I hate CEOs
rhymnocerous@reddit
"In crisis there's always opportunity" OMG SHUT THE FUCK UP, I absolutely loathe corporate America.
Independent-Bug-9352@reddit
"This will suck... Mostly for you of course. I'll coast along the top with a massive nest egg and probably some big time bonus."

“There’s literally a hatchet in my head, but I am not worried about it.”

And please, Dear Reader, don’t complain about the pain. It’s all in your head, after all.

Buying more ammo it is
Eeny009@reddit
I never got this American prepped tendency. Is it just an illusion from me, and I'm only reading such statements from guys who have only 20 cartridges left, or at y'all hoarding for judgement day? Because if you have a box of 500 at home, I just don't see what another 500 will achieve. Are you expecting to lay down heavy suppressive fire over a can of motor oil?
Tiniest_Gimli@reddit
It's not 1000 rounds for you to guard your house. You distribute 200 rounds between five trusted individuals to make sure your neighborhood is taken care of. Want to make sure your shit doesn't get looted? Well, they don't put one guard with one gun and 1,000 rounds outside the bank.
ParabolicHyperbole@reddit
Ammoseek is your friend, friend.
The_chosen_turtle@reddit
Yes sir! Palmetto state armory as well. Got deals on many things
Philantramissle@reddit
Reloading with a friend, is your friend. Ammoseek is great too!
GrapheneRoller@reddit
Maybe a dumb question, but is oil also involved in making ammo, or is it just for the coming unrest? It’d be news to me if it’s also in ammo
The_chosen_turtle@reddit
Logistics will get more expensive which in turn the product being ammo will too. I think it’s in preparation to a coming unrest. We are in bad times believe it or not. It is said probably many times but if you stop and look around, there is unrest in the United States and doesn’t look to get any better.
Rev-Dr-Slimeass@reddit
I am so fucking tired of this. Fucking Americans ruining a good thing.
Gunsmoke-X@reddit
Its not only Americans
IdioticPrototype@reddit
Which other nation, capable of screwing the global economy eight ways from Sunday, elected a petulant, incompetent, pedo, manbaby?
RedWinger7@reddit
Israel
IdioticPrototype@reddit
If Isreal could have, they wouldn't have needed a puppet in the WH.
RedWinger7@reddit
Ah, dont blame the puppeteer. Bold strategy cotton, usually the one pulling strings is in charge.
Eeny009@reddit
If a toddler tells you to put on a red nose and you do, he's not in charge, you're a willing clown.
Gunsmoke-X@reddit
Lmao seriously thats your logic?
We get a lot of our products from other countries..... so yes those countries can screw up the global economy as well..... also biden is out of office so the pedo is gone.
IdioticPrototype@reddit
Of course you're a Trumpedophile, I should have knowm.
Liquid_1998@reddit
If you haven't gotten an oil change, now is the time.
Leftoverofferings@reddit
Get an oil change? I'll just buy a dozen 5qt jugs and continue doing my own oil changes.
impersonatefun@reddit
Then it doesn't apply to you jfc
ragun2@reddit
Jfc. Changing your own oil still uses the same oil kind of oil that lube shops use.
PabloDelicioso@reddit
And your point is? He said he’d buy a dozen 5qt jugs… as in, buy them now and save them… that’s enough oil to last like 5 years.
Yeah it’s the same oil as the lube shop, but does the lube shop let you buy 5 years of oil changes in advance while locking in the current price?
Itldr: u r dumb.
BigManWAGun@reddit
Or perhaps it exactly applies. AutoZone is talking about an increase in oil sales for DIY.
Appropriate_Lack_727@reddit
Yeah, it’s kinda wild. When I was growing up, and even as a young adult, it was very normal for people to change their own oil and do other routine maintenance, like changing brake pads, on their car several times a year. These days, it seems like suggesting someone open the hood of their own car is like asking them to do an impromptu EVA from the space shuttle. I mean, I understand it to some extent, but not much has changed, in terms of the actual procedure for doing these things, to justify it.
illinoishokie@reddit
Please don't fucking hoard.
Mountain_Fig_9253@reddit
If people prepared ahead of time by keeping supplies to be self sufficient for a time, shortages wouldn’t be as big of an issue. Relying on a Just In Time supply chain is preparing to fail.
TanneriteTed@reddit
Do you think everyone has room for oil storage lol
BetCommercial286@reddit
Having 2-3 jugs of oil isn’t a huge deal. Hell could probably fit it in your trunk.
Mountain_Fig_9253@reddit
Yes. 5-10 quarts of oil doesn’t take much space.
Far_Salamander_4075@reddit
You don’t have to buy a barrel.
BigJSunshine@reddit
Oil isn’t something you can store term- 6 months tops as far as I know. The best you can do is oil change tomorrow, buy 7-8 liters for a 6 month oil change
Boyo12301@reddit
Thinking about gas there buddy
Mountain_Fig_9253@reddit
Lol. No.
getittogethersirius@reddit
Isn't it odd though that the oil jugs cost about the same as the oil plus labor to have it done
I did my own oils changes for a while because I feel it's important to know how my car works but like... I'm not saving money and I'm definitely not saving time and effort 😂
AggressiveWallaby975@reddit
It's cheaper for you because they use shitty, recycled oil that's bad enough to void many car manufacturers engine warranties.
NiceGuysFinishLast@reddit
I just paid $110 for a change at jiffy lube because I'm on a road trip and needed it done. It costs me $25 for mobil 1 oil and like $6 for a Honda OEM filter. About the same for my Mazda. About $50 for the stuff for my motorcycle.
I'm no world is DIY the same cost as having a shop do it.
Alert-Ad9197@reddit
Synthetic Oil and a filter is like $40. An oil change starts at about $70 where I am.
Far_Salamander_4075@reddit
I’m online looking right now and I can get three gallons of oil and 6 of my branded oil filters for $126. Just learned how to do my oil change a few months ago so I’m getting this stuff this weekend.
Brief-Floor-7228@reddit
It’s ’cause you have to buy oil in barrels.
Green_Juggernaut_410@reddit
Found the asshole that buys up all the toilet paper to fuck over 4 other people. Everyone for themselves
socialmedia-username@reddit
That's my plan.
SubbieATX@reddit
Exactly. If you know how much you drive a year you could go today and cover yourself for a full year or more if you’re an average commuter. Now commercial fleet vehicle that’s a different story.
carelessCRISPR_@reddit
So badass
BigBlueEyes87@reddit
The economy has continually gotten worse throughout Trump's second term, and will continue to get worse. I don't know exactly what will happen, but I'm preparing for food shortages & extreme inflation.
GolfProfessional9085@reddit
Huh? My 401k is bang’n!
Any_Barracuda206@reddit
Ok? And most people are struggling to buy necessities but go off I guess
Gunsmoke-X@reddit
I remember how much I struggled under biden for 4 years..... now that hes out. I haven't had any issues to buy necessities other than availability because smooth brains buy everything up.
Sushi_Explosions@reddit
Then go back to the alternate dimension you came from.
Gunsmoke-X@reddit
Why would i want to go back to the biden days. That crap was terrible.
Zealousideal-Ice-985@reddit
😂 That’s hilarious, I thought you were serious for a minute.
Gunsmoke-X@reddit
Im dead serious under biden the economy was crap. Pay was low. Cost of goods were high. Stock market was also trash under him. Now things are finally self adjusting and correcting its self as the dollar is regaining is value again..... the only clame to fame he had was dropping the price of some food items by .25 cents.... it was such an accomplishment they had to post it on the news lmao 🤣 to think people actually think its worse now shows how our education system has failed them.

This was my Fox news watching uncle all through Covid, then as soon as Biden got elected it was WORSE ECONOMY EVER GAS AND GROCERY PRICES!! Now he's quiet again.
E0H1PPU5@reddit
All a 401k indicates is how much wealth is being funneled to the mega wealthy. Unless you are retiring in the next 365 days, the value of your 401k means literally nothing.
What are your groceries costing? How much is gas? How stable is the supply chain?
THAT is the economy. Stop being a corporate bootlicker.
GenChadT@reddit
Also how is a 401k going to protect someone from being knocked over the head with a stolen Sony DVD player by a sleep deprived hungry poor person for the petty cash in their wallet and the groceries in their trunk? I think it's only a matter of time before we get a Johannesburg suburb situation. When poverty explodes so does property and violent crime.
unhiddenninja@reddit
Does that help you today, tomorrow, or next week? What about next month? Or next year?
PlzbuffRakiThenNerf@reddit
That’s because of the devaluation of the dollar.
Available_Custard_87@reddit

fireball_jones@reddit

HungryAddition1@reddit
It’s only been a year and a half.
Beneficial_Win_5128@reddit
Brooooo no way. This has been a LOOOOOOONG 1.5 years already
BigJSunshine@reddit
We talk a lot in this sub about how oil abd gas products have a shelf life of about 6 months. My car has had a unidentifiable but painfully slow oil leak since 2018, that I have serviced and kept running with 10w-40 oil (synthetic is fine). I ordered a 6month supply moments ago (one oil change) but I wonder if anyone knows whether the shelf life is really longer than 6 months.
Maybe I need an oil change tomorrow, and then have a supply on hand to cover an oil change in 6 months?
BetCommercial286@reddit
Oil can last basically forever. Gas does not
Adorable-Raisin-8643@reddit
The additives degrade around the 4-5 year mark.
BetCommercial286@reddit
Huh learn something new every day. However somehow I doubt they would degrade enough to grandads your car so I would still use if if it’s all I have.
Adorable-Raisin-8643@reddit
If I had 0 other options I would also use it but if there were newer oil available, then I would not.
ibonek_naw_ibo@reddit

I think I’ll grab a drum of oil for my vehicles and one for my equipment. I wonder if hydraulic fluid will be similar.
firelephant@reddit
Yup. Bought two jugs of 0w16 on sale. Good for a while.
RVtech101@reddit
All this because trump wants us to forget the Epstein files.
shaddart@reddit
I wonder how much it will affect fully synthetic oil
fprotthetarball@reddit
Demand will likely go up for synthetic when people can't get dino
Not enough synthetic to go around because factories aren't ready for the spike
shaddart@reddit
I read an article a long time ago where they tested synthetic oil on taxi cabs in New York City and they put like fully synthetic oil in half the taxis and drove them for 100,000 miles with no oil change compared to the other half which they did regular oil with regular changes and then they took the engines apart and looked at the cylinders there was the same wear or less in the synthetic ones.
unlimited_mcgyver@reddit

TrumpIsAPedoFascist@reddit
All because the president is a pedo
techtornado@reddit
That’s a terrible take
BensenJensen@reddit
It’s not a terrible take, it’s literally the truth.
There is zero tangible reason for what’s happening in Iran. Zero. Iran isn’t weeks from a nuclear weapon, Iran wasn’t planning any imminent attacks on US interests. Trump invaded Iran to takes eyes off of the Epstein Files. He thought a quick and painless operation in Iran, overthrowing the Ayatollah, would make him seem like such a powerful leader that we would forget about the Epstein Files.
-OooWWooO-@reddit
I would say the poor American-Iranian relations are the reasons for what's happening in Iran. Which predate Trump's presidency by more than 3 decades when it comes to open conflict.
Draconiss@reddit
You mean the poor American-Iranian relationship that came to an agreement under the JCPOA under Obama that said Iran would have no enriched uranium for 15 years that trump came in and tore up for no good reason? Lets not gloss over history and pretend this situation was something inevitable.
-OooWWooO-@reddit
The US still did not have 'good relations' with Iran during or after JCPOA or after it took effect. There seems to be some misconception over this apparently. The US still would be sanctioning Iran over several issues if the JCPOA.
The sanctions would have remained in place in regards to Iran as a supporter of Terrorism, human rights violations, and it's missile program.
So if you consider the US still listing Iran a global supporter of terrorism and sanctioning it across several sectors, then sure, that can be good relations I guess.
Draconiss@reddit
-OooWWooO-@reddit
I'm not the one grossing over history here. Obama faced opposition from within the Democrats and from the Republican Party. Before Trump was the front runner, every Republican presidential hopeful and the party itself vowed to eventually scrap it. Both the Republican house and senate voted against the deal. It was going to be undone either under Trump or another Republican.
The deal was strictly about the nuclear program and sanctions associations with it. It was not going to reset American and Iranian relations or set them on a "good" track.
Strange-Luck-5786@reddit
But nobody sees him as a leader, like, at all.
PrideOfTheFoothills@reddit
Regardless of whether you buy the government line about why we "need" this war, it's a waste of our taxpayer dollars and a waste of the American blood being shed.
techtornado@reddit
I never said anything about the war, I merely challenged the unfounded claim about Trump...
Imsomniland@reddit
Unfounded you say? Hey you sound like a guy who can spot a good deal when he sees one! Would you be interested in buying a bridge? I've got some great deals. Prices like you wouldn't believe!
Any_Barracuda206@reddit
Ok magat
ThrowRA_looking@reddit
Well it’s why he started the war…
glitterandnails@reddit
And he will likely said: “it’s all your fault for pushing the Epstein files!”
bermpan@reddit
You haven't read enough.
JeanlucRegards@reddit
Also beacuse bibi is a war criminal and was up for corruption charges, so he has to keep the country at war to postpone his trial. Trump will do almost anything to keep the mossad tapes from coming out
dalton10e@reddit
Remember that national protest in israel that was gaining enough momentum to see bibi removed from power? When and why did that end again? Oh...
GrapheneRoller@reddit
No, but I sure remember all the pro rape-as-torture protests they did
nothing-forbidden@reddit
Everytime I see people trying to bring the Epstein files back into focus...jeez guys if you don't knock it off he's gonna NUKE Iran.

As a guy who does oil for a living…this is blown out of proportion. Autozone & some retailers may have issues. For actual distributors we’ve been told allocation will hit some accounts but not to expect distributors and key accounts to be placed on it.
This will be a case by case basis, based on volume and GP dollars.
chrs_89@reddit
Im not sure if it’s related in anyway but I decided to kick myself in gear and change my oil this weekend, and to prep so I could do it in the morning I swung by Walmart after work and while they had plenty of oil, they were out of almost all of the normal oil filter sizes.
sasquatch_melee@reddit
Isn't that probably from the first brands bankruptcy?
chrs_89@reddit
Which brands went bankrupt? That thought never crossed my mind since it looked like someone came in and bought all the fram and generic oil filters in every size
sasquatch_melee@reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/comments/1sagwvf/first_brands_group_bankruptcy_and_fraud_autolite/
tiffanytrashcan@reddit
Hmm.. 🤔
tiffanytrashcan@reddit
The first page isn't that concerning. Then I get to the examples on two and three, I'm actually pretty shaken.
That's 100x times worse than even during COVID for something like motor oil.
I understand not having a specific brand. I understand not having specialty products. But not even having a close relative to the viscosity and offering it as an acceptable option? That first scenario requires a dozen products to be missing.
Oh, and you're still waiting to be shipped the wrong thing.
Traditional-Handle83@reddit
Gonna be a lot of damaged engines in the near future.
Big_Fortune_4574@reddit
Yeah his preamble didn’t really soften the blow much. But I suppose he had to try
throwaway9gk0k4k569@reddit
I don't think you need to panic-buy for regular oil. That's stupid.
A lot of synthetic motor oil is made from Canadian oil sands. There's plenty of that and those refiners are ramping up production as fast as they can right now.
Specialty fluids, however, may be a problem.
And that's pretty much what this Autozone letter says. Specialty fluids could run out.
Also, when you take into consideration that most people are going to be driving a whole lot less because of gasoline prices, I bet most motor oil consumption is going to go down over the next year.
DarkWingDuck74@reddit
So motor oil is the new TP craze?
PipelineBertaCoin69@reddit
I thought this may be fake but I heard many rumours so I asked my local Napa (Alberta) if they expected oil prices to rise and they said ohhhh yeah they are currently rising
True_mourning84@reddit
Bought oil at costco months back. My oil change is due. Is there a way to clean synthetic and recycle it? I know nothing about oil stuff but I have been curious if that is possible
bscott59@reddit
Stocked up on oil last week.
LionBlood16@reddit
How is Fully Synthetic Oil impacted by the middle east? ELI5
stu54@reddit
Full synthetic is still mostly petroleum based. It is just made of small hydrocarbon molecules built up into larger molecules.
sasquatch_melee@reddit
Should have bought one more case at Costco when it was on sale last month. I think I have my next year's needs covered but once those prices go up they're probably never coming back down.

Someone explain to me how people cannot comprehend that switching to EVs is a national security issue?
Ok-Secretary455@reddit
But every person who lives in an apartment complex is pretty much screwed. As well as basically everyone in NYC or any other major city. Really think of all the people who don't have a garage to park in every night. They won't have a place to charge at night. Not unless you give money to apartment complexes and cities to install chargers all over the place. We have a ratio of cars to gas pumps of around 19:1. To maintain that for charging stations, we need to build 100,000 charging stations a year. Bidens BBB (The whole reason Trump cared so much about calling his bill the Big Beautiful Bill is so everyone would forget the Build Back Better but anyway) had funding for 100,000 over 10 years.
lainlow@reddit
That would be a horrible idea. We do not have the infrastructure for that at all. It’s ridiculously easy to affect the different electrical grids as it currently is and the hammering that they are about to take between the turning back of wind & solar, combined with the data centers currently being built, add in some climate change mainly the droughts affecting the US and the high heat.
Now if you want to say that people need to start pressuring Congress that national security dictates combining fossil fuels with renewables and nuclear, along with pulling funding from the military industrial complex to infrastructure especially public transportation then I’m going to say why have you not been doing that already….

Just gonna say my two cents for the first while in a while. ALL these "emergencies" and "unprecedented situations" are designed and meant to jumpstart international gentrification towards consolidation of power nearing the collapse of the climate and civilization as we know it. socialmedia-username@reddit
Who the heck is buying their oil at AutoZone? I've never seen worse price gouging on oil in my life except for maybe Advance Auto. For some reason they still charge for synthetic oil as if it's some new magic lubricant that only special vehicles require, when pretty much every new vehicle in the last 15 years has required synthetic. The greedy 75%-95% upcharge on oil and batteries turned me off from them a long time ago.
IdioticPrototype@reddit
Okay, but are you going to tell us where to buy the reasonably-priced oil?
socialmedia-username@reddit
My bad. Yeah, Walmart or Amazon usually has synthetic oil for about $15 cheaper per 5-quart jug and like $5 cheaper per quart bottle. If your Walmart serves mostly rural folks, 0w-20 and 5w-30 always seem to be low in stock. Not gone, but only a few jugs/bottles available at any given time.
IdioticPrototype@reddit
Appreciate it.
I have an Advance Auto basically across the street so I'm sure I got raked over the coals last time. I don't drive much these days, so that makes me feel a bit better about it.

Yes, there’s gearbox/transaxle fluid, but the change interval is so long that a short crisis is of little concern

Same. Have a Ford Focus Electric and only change the gear drive oil every 30,000 miles. And it is only 1 quart that is needed.
