[Video] Jeremy Clarkson: “I think that concludes our contractual obligation.” 🥲

For anyone who bothered to tune in to “The Grand-ish Tour” featuring our favorite trio making an appearance once again thanks to demands from Amazon, Jeremy Clarkson ended the clip-filled series with that quote. Perhaps they should hire better lawyers who know how to successfully take on Corporate America next time… 😅

Now we will be stuck the three new guys. Just like Top Gear post Clarkson, Hammond and May, it will be a complete and utter flop. I do not understand why Amazon would try it after seeing the these flops over and over.

Thomas and James are actually pretty decent. I’ve watched them for a while on YT and have always thought they could do a lot more if they had the budget. They’ll never replace the TG trio, but I think they have a shot at making an entertaining show that has its own character.
Trekgiant8018@reddit
Agreed but it should be their own concept. Not just a reboot of a much loved series. It is like setting them up to fail. Let them make their own thing on a bigger scale instead of trying to fit into something already so well done.

Like I said “has its own character”. The worst thing they could do is to try to recreate the show with three new hosts. Top Gear US and Top Gear post-fracas both demonstrated that concept absolutely does not work. I think/hope the Amazon producers are smarter than that.

You never know if this will work out or not. Having 3 car guys on a show doesn't mean it makes the show great. Look at Top Gear. Chris Harris, Rory Reid have tons of character and are awesome blokes for car content. On paper they made so much sense. But the result was quite horrible.
Ferret-Own@reddit
Because just like Top Gear, the trio were not the original presenters. Sure it'll be different but im not going to assume it'll be bad. What I hope is the new presenters dont try to copy the same gimmicks and show format. It might be worth the watch

I think it was probably a joke, it fits his classic profile of irreverance.

Also it'd be mighty stupid of Clarkson to publicly bad mouth Amazon Prime Video on their own product, when Clarkson is still making big money on the Clarkson's Farm show.
Spiritual_Salary_997@reddit
but he's a fucking knob
Floppie7th@reddit
Yeah, I took that entire "fine print" thing as just a bit they were doing. If that were actually the case it's unlikely they would have made it public knowledge.
Doc891@reddit
it sucks because it probably was an agreement to make sure Clarkson and the others could still have their other shows, which are a big buy in so a small clip show is an understandable sacrifice. That said I think what he said resonated with the idea that executives are never satisfied with a perfect ending and will always milk what they can out of people, no matter how soulless it will turn out.
farrowsharrows@reddit
Would have still preferred the three of them do some other show together

Yes but the question is what?
Out of all of the side projects. Clarkson's Farm has been the only really successful one. Hammond's Workshop may not survive now that Discovery+ has been shut down and it being sold to Netflix. His show for Amazon "The Great Escapists" was basically dead on arrival.
The same with James and their collaborations on Drive Tribe (RIP) and YouTube were hardly compelling viewing. Our Man in.... was cancelled after 15 episodes. With James bouncing around between Apple, UK Channel 5....
Whereas Jeremy and Wilman can make compelling viewing out of anything, with virtually anybody. At least in the UK Clarkson's Farm is getting better "viewing figures" than Aamazon's LOTR prequel and at a significantly reduced cost.
None of them seem to want to travel any more. At least not for the one country per episode style format. They've all done travelogues, engineering shows. Richard's tried more or less everything. The only one who really needs the money is Richard, in order to pay for hIs divorce.

James main thing is James Gin on YouTube.
BillWilberforce@reddit
Apparently a year ago it had made a total gross of either £2 million or $2 million (half from the US). Given the costs of production and the marketing. All of those flights to the US, the convebtions, did Jay Leno give a tour of his garage for free?...... He'll be pretty lucky to be breaking even. You wouldn't name a gin "Asian Parsnip" because you decided that Asian food and drink was trendy and that paranips were the most English thing ever. So you decided to combine the two. Most customers looking at the label would imagine that it was made with the Asian variety of parsnip. Is it really a "proper" business or a hobby that lets him sponsor his own video podcasts. Without having a boss and just having Lucy doing the camera and microphone.

In 2025 with US Expansion JamesGin apparently brought in over 5 million (US Dollars) in revenue. It's actually becoming a surprisingly profitable business. They use James May's online presence and popularity on youtube to function as advertising for the business, while pulling in modest profit. Meaning the entire advertising budget for the company is free.

I would like a crossover type thing. Three episodes of James and Hammond on Clarkson's farm. Three episodes of Jeremy and Hammond being taken on a tour of a foreign country by James. Three episodes of James and Jeremy doing something Hammond-y. Whatever that is. Crashing?
BillWilberforce@reddit
Restoring old cars at the moment.
I would watch Hammond as Buttons, whilst Jeremy and James heckle him throughout.
dbone_@reddit
I suspect it was also a little tongue in cheek.
WySLatestWit@reddit
They literally start this whole thing with a premise of it being years in the future, with them all in an elderly care home, and Andy Wilman being dead. I really don't think people should be taking the "contractual obligation" gag all that seriously. Especially considering Jeremy's worked with Amazon continuously since The Grand Tour ended.
BillWilberforce@reddit
They did cancel him for a while. Saying that the next season would be the last. After Jeremy wrote a Sunday Times column, saying that he wanted to see Meghan Markle dragged through the streets naked. Which caused a huge uproar at the time. With Jeremy saying that a paragraph about Game of Thrones accidentally got cut out or that he forgot to write it. Then the cancellation got quietly dropped after the initial furore died down.
WySLatestWit@reddit
For what it's worth, all three of them have said they're happy to see The Grand Tour go on with the new hosts as it's going to , and Wilman has said in interviews recently that the trio will pop up in little cameos and so forth in the new version of the show. So they all seem rather fine to be part of the milking, if that's how you want to put it.

Is this on Amazon video?
