I would appreciate any thoughts on insurance companies for those who own a four seater SEL.

We use Marsh Mclennan as our broker. We have pretty low rates.

Thank you.

We use Avemco as is probably the easiest to deal with until you have 100 hours in type and a few additional ratings. Especially since my wife was a zero time pilot and they added her on at no additional cost. Also policy allows any CFI to fly in the plane and maintenance flights. Also had no problems adding flight school for my CPL training and my wife’s PPL. They will not, however, be the cheapest.
Insurance first year was $1800 for Cherokee $2000 this year due to increased hull value after upgrades. Delayed us getting training in. Once my wife gets her PPL this fall and my CPL this summer the quote I got was under $1500/yr. Goes down even more once we have 100 hours or more in the plane.
This is for a an IFR certified Cherokee 180.
Once we get the time in type I’ll be shopping around.

Thank you for the your experience. That is helpful.

It's generally 3% hull value if you are training or freshly minted PPL, 2% once you get 100 hours and/or IR, and 1.5% or less once you have a CPL and less than that if you have a CFI or 500+ hours in the air.

That is good information. Thank you.

There are very few companies that underwrite insurance for GA. But many brokers.
If you are a member of NAFI, SAFE, and AOPA, they all have programs to provide preferred pricing.
I can recommend my broker, https://aviationinsuranceexperts.com/. Online quoting is available.

You generally need to find an insurance broker for aviation insurance except Avemco. Some people will be here soon to list their place they prefer soon.
I use Bullock Agency and never had any issues; but I have an easy fixed gear plane, 2 seats.

Thank you. I have seen the ones who advertise in the magazines and on trade-a-plane and controller. Hope to get other ideas like Bullock.
