I ran out of time at a receiver and empty I live 15 miles from drop off is personal conveyance allowed? Will I get in trouble by dot? I’ll be empty and not advancing a load or benefiting the company by simply going home?

Also just thought of this. Check your blog and see if you can change the ruleset to split sleeper berth. This will help you tremendously in the future. Study the 8/2 and 7/3 split.

I had did a split already but still ran out of time

Ask your safety department. They are the only ones who can tell you you can pc home (you probably won't be allowed to, unfortunately).
My guess is they will send a driver out to rescue you or have you put in the eld for your once weekly 16 hour exception, assuming youve been home every day due the last 5 days.
crooksFTW@reddit
But why go back to the receiver?
tidyshark12@reddit
Bc you can't use pc to advance your load and it looks suspicious to dot officers of you don't pc to the same place you pc'd away from. Not saying it's illegal always, but if the guys house is 1 centimeter closer to his home terminal, they can ticket him for log violation(s). Also, the additional scrutinization of his logs will definitely take a long time.

If you pc to safe parking you are good, the only thing is if you are loaded you cannot go in the direction of the load.
Longway23544@reddit (OP)
Yes they said I can just wanted to be sure I wouldn’t get in trouble by a dot officer
DazednConfuzed62@reddit
Unless it's changed you need to go back to where you were when you took off duty personal drive time when you go back on the clock. Basically the last place you were on duty at. Happened to me 10+ yrs ago
MajorHymen@reddit
As far as DOT is concerned you’re fine just make sure your company allows it. Which they’ll likely have to in this case as you have no other options.
mdhewitt1978@reddit
If you are loaded as long as you are not advancing the load you are ok. Empty you can say you are heading to the nearest safe haven and be good as long as there isn't anywhere closer.
LastMongoose7448@reddit
You can do it loaded too. If you’re worried it might be “advancing the load” just PC back to the point of origin and go on duty when it’s time to go back to work.

I’m empty
Optimal_Row3798@reddit
Just do less than 5mph
RabbitFabs@reddit
Why?
Jesse1179US@reddit
Won't trigger the clock. If you creep along, you can keep your clock from picking up motion. I do it when I'm on my 30 min break and need to move out of the way.
RabbitFabs@reddit
So, you're gonna do less than 5 mph, for 15 miles? Did you even read the post, where OP asked about the PC? You do know what PC is, yeah? PC works at any speed. 5mph, 55 mph, hell PC is legal to use at 100+ mph if you get the truck up that fast.
Jesse1179US@reddit
I answered your question. Comment said do less than 5 mph and you asked why. I explained why. If you would have asked why would he do 5 mph for 15 miles, that's a totally different answer.
Get your shit together before you come here being an asshole.
RabbitFabs@reddit
🤦♂️ go look at the original question, then you'll see why I asked why.
I know the reason is not to trip the elog. But WHY??? are we going to travel LESS than 5 mph for FIFTEEN MILES when the PC button is RIGHT THERE.
Bonehead.
Jesse1179US@reddit
That's not what you asked, but ok Super Trucker™
RabbitFabs@reddit
I said "why". I never stated why what. That was your assumption. The meaning of "why" was "why not use PC?" You are the one that put words in my mouth / assumed what I was asking.
Jesse1179US@reddit
Well you should have asked the complete question rather than a lazy, one-word question. I'm sorry you're wrong.
RabbitFabs@reddit
And I'm sorry you're having to warranty a brand new hot shot rig 🤣 should have looked at your profile before I said anything, you guys drive like a clock on meth.
Jesse1179US@reddit
I mean at least I was clear in communicating it. You understood me.
Speaking of clarity: what exactly does "drive like a clock on meth" mean, anyway?
RabbitFabs@reddit
I don't know, why don't you tell me what it means Mr Webster
Jesse1179US@reddit
I can't, it's nonsense. I'm pretty sure those words have never been used in that order before. Congratulations.
robs104@reddit
The person who said do under 5mph and the person you’re replying to are two different people. This person just answered the “why under 5” question, not OP’s post.
NotEvenLion@reddit
This is one of the only cases where PC actually applies. You aren't allowed to PC to fix the truck or from dropping something off to go back to the yard, but you can use it to go back to your house at the end of the day. The general rule of thumb is if you're not sure if PC is allowed, just let it get logged as driving time. It's always worse to be in the wrong status to stay out of violation that it is to just be in violation. Because if you get stopped and have your logs checked they will still get you for being out of hours, but they will also get you for falsifying your hours.
Cfwydirk@reddit
You are good. Go home, sleep in your own bed.
FMCSA personal conveyance (PC) allows off-duty drivers to use a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) for personal, non-business use. While no strict federal distance or time limits exist, the driver must be relieved from work responsibility, the move cannot advance a business purpose, and it cannot be used to evade Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
