Is this worth it?

Been looking for a 66-69 impala as a project since it’s a dream car of mine, not to skilled when it comes to cars but I can definitely do the minimum and then some like breaks, radiator, interior, windshields, door glass and interior, I’m really intimidated by engine and trans work but I’m eager to learn, looked at this 68 impala fast back near me and it starts and drives but the condition honestly looks like shit but that’s all that’s near me currently, idk how much bodywork costs or if it’s easy to do either but the guy is asking 4k for this vehicle

The only reason to buy this is for a parts car. 4k for this is very bad. If you aren't already an experienced car guy with a lot of body work under your belt, you can't fix this.

You know I saw a guy buy a 69 nova with similar rust. He didnt have body skills but he started cutting out the rust with a dremel tool and just cutting and shaping with a harbor freight body hammer his own patch panels making the patch panels slightly over size and laying them OVER on top of the original body panels and then riveting the panels on sealing them with some sort of sealer. The car was rattle can primer and I have to admit. It had a neat low buck steam punk frankenstein vibe to it. I was impressed he was enjoying what he had and having fun.

if you have to ask, then no.

Walk away

If your kink is replacing body panels on overpriced old cars, sure.

If you can see that much rust, there’s twice as much that you can’t see yet.

Hard pass. This car is returning to the earth from whence it came
madmax_087@reddit
My god man... no, this is not worth it. This car should be parted and scrapped.
Raw_Venus@reddit
Unless you have a fab shop and can do engineering and sheet metal work, that would be a hard pass.
danny_ish@reddit
If you dont care to get it right, it could be fun. Dont get it right, get it running
Insanereindeer@reddit
For me. Absolutely not and I could do it. If you're not skilled at cars, or metal working. Fuck no.
ongogablogian14@reddit
That’s a parts car, it’s too far gone. Unless someone was giving it to me, I wouldn’t take it, and even then, it’d be a parts car. For 4k you can find a much, much cleaner starting point. The seller is smoking crack.
bigdust80@reddit
You see how bad what’s showing is. Now imagine how bad it is where you can’t see.
CraptainMypants@reddit
This.
When someone asks what it would cost to fix something like this, the only answer I can say is "More".
ManufacturerLost7686@reddit
Do you want to learn how to weld? Cause 4000 bucks is cheaper than welding school.
You're gonna get a loooooot of experience fixing this
Unlikely_Try3848@reddit
Too much rust
MCXL@reddit
$4,000 for this? No absolutely not.

You have to be more deal hunting than this. Also search nationally, if the car isn't local to you that's not a big deal just price in a plane ticket and a car hauler.
Seriously, if you buy a car that's in much better shape in Southern california, Arizona New Mexico whatever, maybe you pay more when you factor in the plane ticket and the ride back but the amount of money that you'll save and time not trying to replace every single fucking rusted through panel (because to be clear this thing is junk. Lines of rust holes across a whole panel means replace the panel.)
Do not buy a project that you're going to regret.
milesgaither@reddit
Nope. Run
Aleutian_Solution@reddit
Not unless you like repairing rust
Boonies2@reddit
Hard pass. Keep looking, you will find a better project
Ok_Entry4465@reddit
Ehhh,4k for a rusty shell is pretty much meh..
