BrownGhost10@reddit
This died but that financial flop cybertruck keeps going is a joke.
SigmaBallsLol@reddit
I wonder if the facilities used to produce the S can just be more easily converted to make the other normal cars but the factories that make the wankpanzer are effectively doomed to produce it until they die.
BrownGhost10@reddit
Gotta make some dumb robots instead. Still a crazy reason.
B00marangTrotter@reddit
r/cyberstuck don't keep going. The wheels literally fall off of them. Saw it happen yesterday and it was hilarious. It's actually a recall. Lol.
Teslas are garbage.
costafilh0@reddit
It's selling more than the S. And it won't last long either.
BrownGhost10@reddit
Easy to sell when most of the sales are towards spacex.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
I doubt that in global sales, since the Cybertruck is only sold in 2 countries officially
umbertounity82@reddit
Helps when Musk uses SpaceX to buy Cybertrucks to juice the numbers.
Morbidly_Off_Piste@reddit
I leased a '24 Plaid for a year and it was a fantastic car. Yes it was "an old car" but as someone who drove it back-to-back with the Lucid Air and Taycan GTS, it sure didn't feel old compared to those cars. And it had better tech and more usable space than either of those cars too. Lease payment on my Plaid was $1400, the Taycan GTS was $2350. I'm a GT3 owner and all-in on Porsche, but...nah bro, the Taycan ain't $950 a month better.
Also, no joke, one of the best stereos I've ever had in a car.
DefinitelyNotAxlerod@reddit
How is a 2 year old car "old"
GaviFromThePod@reddit
The Model S is one of the most important cars ever made
PurpleSausage77@reddit
That video was really well done. New perspective.
owowhatsthis123@reddit
Which one
hovershark@reddit
The only Tesla with an ounce of rizz, and they killed it.
FriendsWithAPopstar@reddit
I think you mean aura, unc.
mulletstation@reddit
It's an upper end long sedan in a world of cars all trying to supplant the Model Y
End of the Day it's a business decision.
ThatGuyFromCanadia@reddit
Crazy that even a person with nearly $1trillion in personal wealth couldn't stand up to the forces of capitalism
Chicken_Zest@reddit
I'm not sure what you're trying to say? That the rich should continue building products that people don't want? That consumers should buy products that rich people make just because the maker is rich?
ThatGuyFromCanadia@reddit
Maybe make the product better if customers don’t want it?
What’s wrong with it, too expensive? Make it cheaper.
Not reliable enough? Make it more reliable.
Not enough range? Give it more range.
Not luxurious enough? Make it more luxurious.
Elon has the financial means to do any of the above; he chose not too either because he didn’t care about the product or because the powers of capitalism overpowered his abilities.
Chicken_Zest@reddit
Listen I'm no Elon/Tesla fan either, but this has gotta be the stupidest point to make as a "negative"
"They're no longer building a 14 year old car that people have lost interest in and are instead focusing on the newer models that people are actually buying at 50x the takerate, what a shitty company"
ThatGuyFromCanadia@reddit
Car companies typically update older models
Chicken_Zest@reddit
Only when it makes sense, but i don't think it does anymore. It was a good halo car to make a splash 15 years ago but people don't buy many large luxury sedans, it's a market segment on life support. Tesla only has 2 vehicles worth mentioning, if they're going to develop a new vehicle they might as well do it in a segment that sells.
But it sounds like instead of doing any of that they're gonna devote their resources to some convoluted fantasy of building computer chips and robots and space shit... so who the hell knows what's going on.
mulletstation@reddit
The market said the 3 and the Y were what it wanted. Elon is a classic min-maxer.
The 3 and the Y are the ultimate endpoint of the S and X
ThatGuyFromCanadia@reddit
I agree, the market has little to no appetite for higher end Tesla vehicles. They have failed to attract that portion of the car market, but they have been fairly successful at attracting the “cheapest EV possible” portion of the market.
Unfortunately for Tesla, they make little to no profit on the 3 & Y, especially compared to the S & X.
GaviFromThePod@reddit
Sedans aren’t popular anymore and this car was OLD. Basically the same car that came out as a 2012 model year.
DanTMWTMP@reddit
I’m going to be that guy and be annoying; but Tesla cars have very little parts commonality between model years compared to other manufacturers. They iterate like insane. The 2026 S has only 3% parts commonality compared to the 2012 model.
That’s unheard of in the car industry. To get to 3% parts commonality amongst cars today, that’s like saying a 1970’s era car vs a 2026 version of that car because most manufactures retain on avg upwards of 90% of parts commonality between generations of cars. Many cars still use the base block of engines designed decades ago so for many vehicles, one has to go back one decade further to achieve 3% parts commonality.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
The Cybertruck has lower sales and has nowhere to export it to but that is still selling
GaviFromThePod@reddit
Yeah but Cybertruck has new technology like steer by wire. Not defending the cybertruck as a vehicle, but I understand why this makes sense to do.
Viperlite@reddit
They updated the Model S hugely since its introduction in 2012. Check out Jason Camissa’s YouTube video on the subject here.
GaviFromThePod@reddit
I mean yeah of course they updated it, but it is an aging vehicle on an aging platform
strnfd@reddit
If you watched the video it's actually not, its been continuously updated and improved throughout its production that they've been able to reduce the number of parts by 50% from the 1st year to the last year, they have an example in the video where they used % of new parts per generation of a standard car, the model s would have had around 4-6 generations in % of new parts from the 1st year to the last.
GaviFromThePod@reddit
Ok but it is fundamentally the same car that came out as a 2012 model albeit with significant updates in the same way the outgoing Dodge Charger was fundamentally the same car that came out as a 2006 model (yes i know there was a refresh)
Salt-Plankton436@reddit
What was so bad about the platform?
GaviFromThePod@reddit
Nothing bad, just old
kstetter@reddit (OP)
The body really ruins it for me, just a Model Y body with less polygons and cargo area
tobyhatesmemes2@reddit
Uhhh, not quite
kstetter@reddit (OP)
I know, but it's not exactly a pickup truck is it, it's a Crossover with a weird rear door
xXNodensXx@reddit
Cybertruck looks like what some 12 year old in the 80's thought a 'future truck' might look like.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
The roll bar look is pretty recent
ryzenguy111@reddit
The cybertruck actually has higher sales I believe (or around the same) and it uses technology that will be used in the upcoming Cybercab (steer by wire, 48v, zonal architecture etc) so they probably want to keep it as a test bed for that stuff
Mpikoz@reddit
The only thing similar about this (2026 model S) to the 2012 that first came out is the general design/looks. Nothing else remained the same throughout its life as they were making major updates to the underpinning of the car.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Ackshually, the Model S was a hatchback.
Plus_Aura@reddit
That's actually very incorrect.
Here's a video that goes into detail, also, Hagerty makes some of the best car content online
https://youtu.be/IwnJzP0TlCk?si=YR-mQFUhuvjWI9vD
caliwillbemine@reddit
I dislike Tesla for the reasons everyone is well aware of. I respect the hell out of the Model S, the engineeeing that went into it, and the consistent drive to improve it over its run.
An absolutely astonishing vehicle and approach to engineering. Without it we wouldn’t have anywhere near the selection of good EVs we have today. The Hagerty video is also truly fantastic.
FnnKnn@reddit
They changed pretty much every part of this car since then so it doesn't really apply. If you compared the the dodge charger by how old every single part is, it is probably an older car by comparison.
Shallow_wanderer@reddit
Nah, the Roadster has the rizz
Model 3 is going to be remembered just like the Bangle-butt 740il, where it ushered in a new era of car technology that is impossible to work on if you aren't a dealer tech
So much for the environment I guess lol
Euler007@reddit
Yup. The X also looked good but was a reliability nightmare due to Gullwing door design.
dumbledayum@reddit
Model S was god tier but I love that Tesla is putting way more effort on Model 3 and Y. It’s a good strategy to focus on the cars that sell the most making Good features available to more people instead of just the 1 percent. This is very close to the push Apple made with Macbook Neo.
ThatGuyFromCanadia@reddit
Or just provide features / reduce the cost of the S & X to allow/entice more customers to purchase them? Why give up just because you've failed at doing that?
mach1alfa@reddit
and forever ruined cars, EVs or not by introducing massive fucking screens to their interiors
Supernova_Soldier@reddit
Mannnnn…
costafilh0@reddit
No place for Sedans anymore.
But I bet they will bring back the Model S eventually.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
It's sad they never made a wagon
1r0n1c@reddit
A polestar 4 wagon is on its way
mehdotdotdotdot@reddit
Zeekr too, looks incredible.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
Already here for me
RazingsIsNotHomeNow@reddit
Maybe when Musk dies or less likely gets ousted. Tesla isn't interested in making cars.
OldRed91@reddit
At one point it was the best selling car in the world. The last time an American manufacturer did that was Ford with the Model T.
Calm_Mobile_5881@reddit
Proud owner of a 2024. My favorite vehicle in 40 years of driving.
costafilh0@reddit
So you only had shitty cars so far 😂

Lol tf, imagine being on a car enthusiast sub and not being proud of the car you own.

Imaging hating someone for saying "proud owner of [car]" on /r/cars

Almost everyone in this sub has what cars they own in their user flair.

I am a fan of the Model S. It's the only Tesla I would consider owning, and almost did until Elon tarnished the brand. The Model Y was a really boring experience.
Masteguy635@reddit
The Model S was the second best looking sedan after the F90 M5 LCI but now they’re both gone…
baconandbobabegger@reddit
I always thought I would own an M3 but then design went… a certain way. I knew I was keeping one of my cars forever but now I got two. Sedans are becoming scarce, or ugly.
techtimee@reddit
I like my sedan(Not a model S) and it's been great for the amount of space, especially the trunk size. But I can't deny that I've found myself wanting more sometimes in terms of space. It's also been a bit of a pain with all the lifted trucks where I live and deep potholes/snow ruts in winter.
My next vehicle will be an SUV/Cyber truck/Lightning. I can understand why sedans have waned.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
If you want cargo space either get a wagon, hatchback, real SUV or real truck. Not a Crossover or a Cybertruck, even the Model Y is better than the cybertruck at being a truck
-GenlyAI-@reddit
Crossovers are pretty great. Compared to a sedan anyway
kstetter@reddit (OP)
No they're not. Buy a real SUV or a hatchback.
-GenlyAI-@reddit
I have both. Crossovers are great. Cope.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
No
-GenlyAI-@reddit
Don't know what to tell you then. Hatchbacks are for kids or poors. You'll figure it out.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
then buy a real SUV, a G-wagen has more class than any luxury crossover
Drzhivago138@reddit
/r/carscirclejerk
techtimee@reddit
Model Y is the top runner(And realistically obtainable/sensible financially).
kstetter@reddit (OP)
An Audi sedan or wagon is also a good choice if you want a car but with higher ride height and AWD, Like an A6 Avant.

My 2015 has 125k miles, on the original battery and motors. Still goes like stink. Best daily driver I've ever owned.
CalvinYHobbes@reddit
I really wish I had the funds to buy one. It’s my dream car daily driver.
Heisenbugg@reddit
Tesla stock will go up 20% cause of this
kstetter@reddit (OP)
Why? the Model S is a great car
bmetz16@reddit
if you follow Tesla stock, generally the dumbest things imaginable will make the stock go up
Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir@reddit
The Model S rides so much better than the 3 and Y, idk what magic they worked...or, maybe, how they decontented the suspension to be that bad
Drzhivago138@reddit
Easy, it's a longer WB and wider track.
B00marangTrotter@reddit
Yesterday was a hilarious day, I got to see a wheel come off a cybertruck as it exited the highway. I literally say to my friend driving, "check out the loser in the cybertruck", and then it happened. We both laughed so fucking hard.
Teslas are garbage.
Low-Umpire236@reddit
People keep posting Tesla news.
The_NiNTARi@reddit
I still think hybrid is the way to go
Activehannes@reddit
No
Repulsive-Play6547@reddit
wild that it's over. the model s was the whole reason people started taking evs seriously and now it's just... done. end of an era for real.
Shallow_wanderer@reddit
And now we have the Cybertruck to wipe out all the goodwill that the brand developed over the past 15 years, yay
triddlyso@reddit
Good
mantenner@reddit
Why? This was a really innovative car that saw way more changes and adjustments that possibly any car throughout its life.
Poster child for Tesla, had the numbers, was a great testing ground for new changes and features.
This is sad news for sure.
For anyone interested the Hagerty video by Jason Cammisa on it is really interesting.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
Is was Tesla's best model imo
KingKontinuum@reddit
What will Tesla fans who hyped up its sub 2-second 0-60 endlessly glaze now?
kstetter@reddit (OP)
Nope, they just hype up FSD. Acting like every luxury Chinese brand doesn't have a LiDAR-based FSD system
tech01x@reddit
And they all tested poorly against Tesla FSD.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
I'd believe that, which self driving systems exactly? there are a lot of brands with their own system, and a few cross-brand systems
tech01x@reddit
There is a couple of Dongchedi (DCARS Studio) extensive live dynamic testing comparing the best of China’s offerings to Tesla’s FSD V13.2.6. Tesla’s came out on top by quite a lot, and that was the older version.
KingKontinuum@reddit
Very true. Don’t get me wrong: amazing cars, amazing tech. But seeing them actively discourage people from buying any other EV other than Tesla has been disappointing.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
And just them lying about Chinese EVs, no different from the anti-EV crowd.
Tesla is currently in the top 5 best EV brands available in the west.
PurpleSausage77@reddit
I picked up a 2014 Model S 3 months ago at a great price just days before oil skyrocketed and absolutely love it. The only Tesla I particularly liked the aesthetic look of. I’ve worked on it a bit as well, nothing on the high voltage circuit, but I actually prefer working on it when it comes to little stuff, as opposed to the other $100k+ sedans competing with this…Mercedes S/CLS, Audi A7/A8, BMW 7/8 series, which I would not want to work on.
Love the design. Still has some of Henry Fisker’s touch before he got canned and made the Fisker Karma etc. when Model S was being designed back in late 2000’s.
The Model S being based on a Mercedes CLS is cool. CLS was one of the coolest looking sedans when it came out. You see some Mercedes interior parts in the earlier S/X cars. The rear door & door jambs have the same frame work as the CLS, and same with the Fisker Karma. Such an interesting story behind it back then.
