Well, he did suggest smoking the Soviets while we were on full war economy. The soviets were tired and resources were slim. History could have been different. There's that. Despicable person though.

Unlike a lot of his fellow generals, he was an attention seeker, and then died very quickly after the war. He didn't get the opportunity to show who he was to the masses, so the masses could only focus on the few stories they had access to that fawned over him.

The prototype .45 beat the 1911 in testing at the start of WW2, but the US needed pistols fast and the 1911's were already ready to deliver so they stuck with it. Would have been cool to see how the .45 version could have changed gun history if it was adopted.
