What happened to me today.

So today I get loaded in Laramie with a load going to North Carolina. 10,000 pound load, 5 pallets. Dispatcher messages me and tells me she wants to switch loads on me. She has a load at Fort Collins Anheiserbusch but the driver assigned to that load is Muslim and has a religious restriction against transporting beer. She wants me to give him my loaded trailer and take his empty and get loaded for a 2nd time today. Ok, sucks but whatever. So I get to Anheiser-Busch already late for the appointment. Im swaping trailers with this driver. I give him the bol, registration and inspection and ask him to give me the documents for his trailer. But this guy wont give me the docs, he starts inspecting the trailer. And starts talking to me about how the light on the license plate holder is not working. Im like "dude would you just give me the docs so I can go get loaded. if you have a problem with the trailer tell the safety department and theyll tell you where to fix it." He tells me whats my problem and that I have a bad attitude and locks himself in the truck and starts complaining on me to our dispatcher. So i leave the paperwork in his door handle, take his trailer and go get loaded without the paperwork for the trailer.
LastMongoose7448@reddit
So you had to take a lesser paying load for someone’s religious preference? That would have been a big “fuck no” from me.
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
It was about 400 miles shorter trip. But I dont really care cause I dont like running all day anyways. Id rather have a shorter day and have time to relax. Plus the load I got was going west so I gain an hour, where as the other load was going to the east coast so you'd lose 2 hours.
SexMachine666@reddit
Idk, I'd have come up with equally good reasons not to switch because I hated hauling beer. It was always a pain in the ass waiting hours in a dock to get loaded with heavy bullshit that they probably won't load correctly, or will load in a way that can't be secured properly.
I can count on one hand the number of beer loads I've hauled that didn't end up being a huge hassle at one or both ends, lol.
Makes me glad I drive reefer now and book my own freight so I can say no to loads that historically have wasted my time.
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
Ive had more issues with soda than beer. I feel like the beer guys are better at loading. The soda people dont give a rats ass.
heebro@reddit
this is bait
Mnemorath@reddit
Never read any of the writings of the Founders I take it. Did your communist professor teach you that load of tripe?
hotdogsNtunafish@reddit
Bro. This is not a Christian nation. It's was part of the constitution as well as the Treaty of Tripoli. The treaty literally says we were not founded on Christianity or those beliefs. Learn history.
Jondiesel78@reddit
Have you told Massachusetts? They had state funded and sponsored religion until 1833.
SuperConfused@reddit
Is Massachusetts the country now? I thought it was the USA.
Jondiesel78@reddit
Last I checked, Massachusetts is a commonwealth within the USA.
titanofidiocy@reddit
Which was a hundred and how many years ago?
Jondiesel78@reddit
It was 50 years after the founding of the country.
SuperConfused@reddit
Our first ratified treaty as a nation was the Treaty of Tripoli. Ratified by all 13 colonies. Us was not founded and is not a Christian nation. Stop listening to revisionist historians.
heebro@reddit
Actually, I have. They worked up a little document, maybe you have heard of it? It's called the Constitution.
SnakeandNape5000@reddit
A friend of mine does CBP in Arizona. He told me about a Muslim truck driver who came through his checkpoint. As he was sitting they ran a dog around the outside of his truck. At one point the dog put his paws on one of the steps and the driver freaked out saying he couldn't drive the truck anymore. Apparently they don't like dogs either.
december151791@reddit
What a lovely religion. Let's import a few million of its followers! /s
PGunne@reddit
Quick search:
"Dogs in Islam are conventionally thought of as ritually impure. This idea taps into a long tradition that considers even the mere sight of a dog during prayer to have the power to nullify a pious Muslim's supplications."
One site says if a dog touches/licks you, you can just wash it off, but if it touchers/licks a utensil/plate/cup and such, you have to wash it 7 times and then rub it with sand or dirt from the ground, which is, fo course, much more sanitary.
Cats, on the other hand, are considered ritually pure.
Regardless, it seems to vary, depending on which flavor of Islam you practice.
Humble_Length5150@reddit
An animal that digs in its own shitbox.
OK.
SnakeandNape5000@reddit
I knew it had something to do with their culture. Thanks for the info. I admire their religious conviction. I couldn't do it. I love bacon and I love my dogs.
navlgazer9@reddit
I would have driven away with my origional load and left him there with his beer
Panakinn@reddit
100 percent wtf they gonna do? Fire you or the guy who is picky about loads which BTW he's not handling, he's just driving a trailer. This isn't food service he's not being asked to sample or touch the stuff just drive.
DblDtchRddr@reddit
Strict Muslims can’t have anything to do with alcohol at all, including transporting. That said, I can’t imagine having to stop and pray 5 times a day is good for getting miles in.
Critical_Opening_526@reddit
Eh nobody is strict in their own home. I'm convinced it's a show for others.
My wife's family is muslim. (She's half muslim and half catholic)
I had a beer with her dad last week.
But get him outside with strangers, and he doesn't drink or smoke.
Fucker has a pack of reds in his car.
Successful-Worth-390@reddit
Wait... how can you be half of a religion?
december151791@reddit
No pork on Fridays?
Aster_Yellow@reddit
lol I'm convinced some people actually think "Muslim" and "Catholic" are races or ethnicities.
DeepSea_Diverticulit@reddit
Two things that Baptists don't recognize: the Pope, and other Baptists at the liquor store
Googleitgenius@reddit
"" Strict Muslims can’t have anything to do with alcohol at all, including transporting."
Then they should not be truckers, its as simple as that boys.
Unusual-Associate174@reddit
Sounds like trucking is a bad job for them
Livid-Employer3221@reddit
Me too, nobody forces him to drink the beer, what a lame reason to refuse a load.
Miserable-Bridge-729@reddit
This is the right response.
Some_Victory_5499@reddit
Me too
hardzoup@reddit
I think I would have called my dispatch back and told them he didnt want the load because the license plate light was out, and I would let them know when Im unloaded in NC.
Some_Victory_5499@reddit
And I don't care about his religion beliefs he shouldn't be in this profession if he won't take a load
WarmScientist5297@reddit
And this is why every time we put an advertisement for an employee on our food truck we specifically write “ we serve bacon”. Because we have actually had more than one person want to work on the grill as a grill chef but not cook bacon and pork sausage.!!!!!!!
ArmpitNoise@reddit
Time for the long pork.
Humble_Length5150@reddit
A religious exemption for "hauling" beer?
For fucks sake, fuck that mother fucker. Does he have an exemption for douching his ass in the toilet, and leaving his ass water bottle in the stall, because he's in a hurry to go to his truck 5 times a day to chicken bob on his rug while blocking the fuel island? (asking for a friend)
I've now heard it all.
No more internet today. Fuck me.
Patalos@reddit
I can totally get not wanting to haul something you’re morally opposed to, but I’d also expect you to do what you can to make it easier on the people bending over backwards to help you do so…
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
Why leave a country that is aligned with your morality and religion for a country that isnt? If religion is so important to you then stay in your Muslim country. These people want to have their cake and eat it too. They want financial prosperity and they want to keep their religios practices and they expect to be accomidated. I dont care what anyones religion so long as it doesnt effect me. But now this is effecting me directly so I have a problem with it.
Patalos@reddit
Idk man, probably because there's more factors that affects ones life than what trailer they got assigned to haul that makes life in the States significantly better for them.
I get you want to have the rant about "these people" but it sounds like the issue is the dude was a dick that took advantage of you and the system, not that he's a Muslim. If you're honest with yourself, we both know plenty of non-Muslims would absolutely do the same to take advantage of you given the chance.
NS-13@reddit
You know what one of the main purposes of the founding of our country was dont you?
Like, did you not learn about the American revolution in school?
Jondiesel78@reddit
Yes. To be able to drink beer. In fact George Washington provided his white servants with a quart of beer a day. He made beer at his Mt Vernon estate. Sam Adams was also in the beer business.
NS-13@reddit
And there was even a point in time where religious fundamentalists had that right taken away from everybody else
Jondiesel78@reddit
Yes, the 18th was a huge mistake, immediately followed by an even larger mistake.
Humble_Length5150@reddit
I just spat up my beer on my wife laughing so hard. Lol. I made her clean it up.
NS-13@reddit
Goddammit lol
buttweasel76@reddit
There was also a time when people of certain religions were considered outlaws and criminals and killed.
GRF999999999@reddit
America is for white Christians only, it's right there in the constitooshen. /s
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
Oh yes. I forget about all the great Muslims that founded this country.
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
Aparently there have been lawsuits brought and won by muslim drivers against trucking companies who fired them for refusing to haul beer. So now federal law requires trucking companies to accomodate them by switching their loads with other drivers. .
crazy-carebear@reddit
How do they get routed to those loads they need to be switched out with in the first place?
Mnemorath@reddit
Federal law does not require switching loads. However, if your company routinely switches loads on drivers for varying reasons, then the Muslim may have an EEOC complaint. That is all.
However, at this point, he has refused two loads. Both his original load, and his accommodation load. Having a license plate light out is not an out of service condition. Nor is it really a ticket if you have it annotated to be fixed. I would fire him for refusing the load for other than safety reasons.
Granted, it is Blitz Week and this “driver“ probably has other reasons to worry about getting an inspection.
Revolutionary-Key177@reddit
🤦♂️ ridiculous
ns2103@reddit
I wonder, if I were in that situation, could I refuse to switch because of my deeply held beliefs that I don’t want to support any religious beliefs as I have only distain for religious tenets. I’m not going to inconvenience myself because some persons book says they can’t do a thing.
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
Aparently federal law requires trucking companies to accomodate muslim drivers now.
navlgazer9@reddit
There’s no federal law requiring you to accommodate the folks that did 9/11
ns2103@reddit
The folks that did 9/11 aren’t driving trucks as far as I know.
navlgazer9@reddit
The govt thinks they might
That’s why there’s a background check for haz mat and TWIC now
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
The federal law that requires trucking companies to accommodate drivers who refuse to haul beer or other alcoholic beverages is Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Specifically, this falls under Title VII's protections against religious discrimination.
Mnemorath@reddit
That law would only require “reasonable accommodation“ unless your company has a habit of switching loads for other reasons, it would be a difficult bar to meet.
NS-13@reddit
Lmao
Mnemorath@reddit
Deeply or firmly held beliefs, are technically religious beliefs, under federal law, regardless of if they are secular or not. Which means they have the same protection.
IndividualWave5692@reddit
If he's Muslim why did he accept a load for Budweiser
Humble_Length5150@reddit
Maybe he thought it said butt-wiper. He thought there was a free 12 ounce bottle of water that he wouldn't have to fill at the faucet before going in the stall?
GandalfTheSleigh@reddit
Why would you be a truck driver if you can’t haul simple shit? I’m so glad I’m not religious.
Humble_Length5150@reddit
As long as it's legal... No HAZMAT... I don't give a fuck what's in my trailer. I'm just moving it from point A to B.
RebelTvshka@reddit
Religion isn't the guys problem, it's just a convenient excuse.
BoringJuiceBox@reddit
So treating women like slaves is ok but fuck beer?
TruthfulRepugnance@reddit
Nah, fuck him. You should have considered his unwillingness to take loads when you hired him. Would you refrain from sending me to a meat plant if I were vegetarian? Don't think so somehow.
MajorHymen@reddit
Surprised they didn’t just let him go. You can’t fire someone for their religion but I’m pretty sure you can fire someone for not being able to fulfill the duties of the job. If my religion says I can’t cook food a restaurant isn’t going to be legally required to pay me to stand in the corner and not work.
AroundGoesThe18@reddit
Im in AA, 7 years sober, i still haul booze. All of it - i couldnt imagine accepting a load then screwing another driver for my company over by playing a victim just to get a better load.
F that guy.
MssMoodi@reddit
Wouldn't he have known what the load was before he even went to go and get it being the Muslim that he is.
GRF999999999@reddit
Right? How'd they get to that point to begin with?
FWD_to_twin_turbo@reddit
"He's muslim he cant run that load" how is that your problem? Who hired him?
RanarrSmokerr@reddit
Muslims can't transport beer but can treat women like slaves ? 😂
Gilgamesh2000000@reddit
I had an idiot come into our shop and tell us the valve stem was no good. I look at it and it was fine. Then proceeds to tell me how he pays attention to small details etc. I changed his tires just to shut him the fuck up. The I look over and see brake skidded tires on the other side “I pay attention to small details” he didn’t notice that 😂.
It didn’t stop there. His bill was paid for by a national account. We have to follow procedures that correlate to that national account or billing will be a chore. He reads the bill receipt like it’s coming out of his po key and starts asking stupid ass questions.
I have met some great people who drive trucks. I have met some brain dead idiots who make me brace for impact on every other trucker I service.
grumpus_ryche@reddit
Throw a beer on it next time.
Mnemorath@reddit
Better yet a piece of bacon or ham
Exciting-Car-3516@reddit
I mean you can stop at any truck stop and printout the trailer paperwork not a big deal.
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
I know. Thats why i left. fuck him.
FrontTelevision7261@reddit
Approved!
AquilaVI@reddit
Lotta damaged goods in our line of work. Especially between the seat and steering wheel.
