I actually prefer the non +P personally. I don't see that posted too often though.
caterham09@reddit
Is there any actual reason that hollow points need to cost 2 or 3x what fmj's do? Is it purely just marketing?
HowAboutNitricOxide@reddit
I’ve always thought more complex design + sealing primers + better QC
Wild_Dingleberries@reddit
As someone who has no idea what they're talking about but wants to look knowledgeable in the next thread when people ask.. are they really using different primers for these over their range/FMJs?
HowAboutNitricOxide@reddit
No idea if the primers are different, but they apply a sealant around them on the JHPs
Wild_Dingleberries@reddit
Ah okay, that's what I thought but didn't understand ur previous comment.
Coldones@reddit
Besides the JHP projectile they also use cleaner-burning/low-flash powder, more consistent/reliable primers, nickel-plated cases, and they apply sealant at the primer and case mouth to waterproof the round
Squeeze_Toy2004@reddit
Without getting into the weeds, there's a lot more manufacturing time into these projectiles plus the nickel plated cases and amazing QC.
USSZim@reddit
Yes, they are more complex to make, especially the good ones. Federal HST have a specific lead composition, a skived jacket, nickel plated casing, sealed cartridges, and additional QC.
Intheshaw1@reddit
I believe it's a bullet that usually costs 5-8 cents a round more plus better QC.
Or just because they know people will pay more for that belief, I have no actual clue haha.

Another hell of a deal. Recoil gunworks 🐐
xbuzzbyx@reddit
This is the standard deal they run pretty often. It's been posted 3 weeks in a row. The 147 is better imo, and posted less often.
Background_Wrap9472@reddit
I’m ok with it. 30 bucks a box with free shipping for buying 2 is a good deal. All the grains do the same thing.
NewbRedditer@reddit
I get 124s because i mostly shoot 115 and 124. A lot of guns are also designed around 115 / 124g and 147s can be less reliable ( very gun specific, but look at mp5s for instance being very finicky with 147s). Maybe i dont shoot enough but 147 and 124 grain recoil feels the same to me, i think there is a greater difference in the powder charge in 115s between manufactures or if you get nato spec.
Coldones@reddit
Yeah, it comes down to the powder charge and the burn rate of the powder (the pressure curve) more so than the grain weight, as far as 'feel' is concerned. Blazer is soft as shit no matter what grain you grab, same for PMC. NATO-spec 124gr feels snappy, and WWB 115gr is actually pretty snappy too.
lancerevo98@reddit
I have been shooting more than ever the last 6 months since starting PCSL and through many thousands of rounds have zero ability to tell the difference between 115 and 124 even though some people will swear they do.
xbuzzbyx@reddit
147 is sub sonic, so it won't blow your ears out with the crack. But 124 p+ and 147 should have the same energy iirc
USSZim@reddit
124 will already have more energy than 147, +P even more so. That said, how much energy really matters is debatable, all of the 9mm HST projectiles perform pretty much best in their class.
Knee_High_Cat_Beef@reddit
Unsuppressed 147 gr is still way louder than the supersonic Crack. No difference in sound unless you suppress.
Background_Wrap9472@reddit
Not too worried about the sound if I have to shoot somebody tbh
xbuzzbyx@reddit
There's also penetration and expansion differences, but yeah, as long as is puts 'em down, buy what you can get.
Background_Wrap9472@reddit
They all fully expand & penetrate within the 12-18 inches necessary for incapacitation
Coldones@reddit
yeah, it's basically normal price for recoil, but still pretty damn good cpr for small amounts of carry ammo
remlik@reddit
I live near a Federal plant. They just had a first responder sale on seconds and returns. I got 1050 of the 147gr version of these for $92.50. Labeled as seconds and in bulk packs of 350....but for 9 cents a round I got no problem shooting them at the range.
Legal-Practice2445@reddit
Ni…nine cents per round?
Some some men died of dehydration, others drown.
angrycicada49@reddit
This is the everyday price for all the hst and hydrashock boxes at GT distributors
berner3755@reddit
Bring it down to 25cpr
Squeeze_Toy2004@reddit
I'd be happy to see it at 40cpr again.
I got lucky and snagged a couple cases of Gold Dots when they were on sale for 46cpr.
berner3755@reddit
Screwed my math up, I meant .49cpr I got a box of 1000 for back in January.
Squeeze_Toy2004@reddit
Best I can find right now is 53cpr Gold Dots

Ordinary-Machine1451@reddit
Apart from the “non-duty” stuff, haven’t seen it under 50CPR in years.
This is 60CPR, for the curious.
leanderthal69420@reddit
True. I just got a 500 round case off tacswap for $250 shipped, shipping and tax makes it not worth it online sometimes.
ClosetedNutCase@reddit
Where they doing hollow points for 25cpr at?
