Do I just turn up at my new job?

I start a new job on Monday. The contract has been signed etc.
This was 2 weeks ago since then I haven’t heard anything. I tried contacting hr about my start time and dress code etc but no response.
Only response I got was a text from hr confirming that they have received everything from me and that they are happy to have me onboard.
Do I just turn up at 9am Monday and ask for my manager (I do know their name)?
It’s quite a big / well known company if that matters
jumper62@reddit
I would say text them to confirm you're starting at 9. My last two jobs, they've asked me to start the first day at 10am so that the appropriate staff members are all in
moleyman9@reddit
I'd go if I was you.
We had someone phone in sick on their first day last week 😔
GeorgeJAWoods@reddit
yep just turn up, explain at reception its your first day and theyll email/im your manager and theyll come get you
funnystuff79@reddit
I would say on your first day it's better to be 15 minutes late than 15 minutes early.
Everyone gets in at different times, needs to get coffee, chat about the weekend. They're not ready for a newbie to be sitting in reception waiting
newbracelet@reddit
I once started a new job and the other new start turned up 25 minutes late and got fired on the spot. Better to politely sit in reception until they're ready than to make a bad first impression.
WeeklyPermission239@reddit
No. This is good advice for turning up to a house party, not your new job.
funnystuff79@reddit
I have turned up to several new jobs, in various industries, none of them were in any way ready to receive me early
SnooDonuts6494@reddit
Sure - they may not be ready. So you sit in reception and do the Metro crossword for a bit. That's fine.
But do not turn up late on your first day - that'd give a terrible first impression.
WeeklyPermission239@reddit
That sucks on their part, but it's likely that even in those jobs they would have taken a dim view of you arriving late. (Yes, it is unfair!)
funnystuff79@reddit
You have to look at the industry and even your own Monday morning routine.
A 9am sharp start doesn't exist in software or AI, but does in something corporate.
Truck mechanic, they'll be happy if you show up consistently and sober
_isolati0n@reddit
This is really bad advice, definitely don't be late on your first day
Dzeire@reddit
Yeah I’m sure turning up 15 minutes late on your first day is a good idea, what kind of advice is this
TimboJimbo81@reddit
Red eyed and smelling of weed/alcohol optional
EdgarAlansHoe@reddit
I would not recommend being intentionally late on the first day, OP.

It's highly likely that HR has passed on your info to your new line manager who was meant to follow up with a start time etc and they have just forgotten/have lost the email in their inbox. Seen it happen so many times (regardless of LM competency). Just turn up at 9:00 and be prepared to be v bored for a few hours/days.
Fire_breathing_ram@reddit
Congratulations. Did the offer letter confirm your hours? If not, you may want to arrive early so they don't consider youba no-show. If they open at 8am, then get there 7:45am. All the best!
Dull_Hawk9416@reddit
Dress code should be easy to figure out. Shelf stacker? Jeans and a t-shirt. Corporate? A nice suit. Strip club? As little as possible.
Turn up about 10 minutes early and be prepared to possibly do almost nothing all day.
_isolati0n@reddit
Yes, of course you should show up for your first day. Attend at the start time stated within your contract, or at opening time if it's not specified.
turboRock@reddit
yeah just turn up. id probably over dress, rather than under to be safe.
SnooDonuts6494@reddit
Yep, just that. Best to be about ten minutes early. So in fact, it's best if you're in the area half an hour early or so - you can probably grab a coffee somewhere, then go in at 08:50.
Go to reception, tell 'em you're starting today and ask for that manager.
Take ID, and your banking details. And maybe a notebook and pen.
intangible-tangerine@reddit
Yes just turn up and don't be surpised if you spend the first few days with not much to do because they are disorganised.
THROWRAsaltylemon@reddit
If the day has been confirmed, then yes you should just show up and tell reception that it's your first day.
Under_Pressure_123@reddit
Yes I think you're better off being the new start who turned up when no one expected it than the new start who didn't turn up on their first day. If the place opense before 9 try to give them a phone call to confirm, otherwise, I guess just turn up.
sunheadeddeity@reddit
Yes, that's it. If you're confident of the address you just turn up. Dress smartly, be there for 8.45 if they haven't given you a different start time, bring notepad and pen and cash for lunch. Congrats on new job!
