Which Truck wins a drag race? One who shifts at peak power or one that shifts at peak torque?

Lets say theres 2 trucks.
Both X15 2050tq 605hp 3:90 rears 18spd Eaton, pulling a 22 ton load...so on and so forth.
They line up, does the one that shifts up at 1600 rpms (peak engine torque) or 1900 rpms win (peak motor hp)?
Can someone explain the science?

Horsepower is torque multiplied be engine horsepower divided by a constant (5252). This means that really the only relevant factor in this scenario is engine horsepower or better yet how the engine power curve is best utilized.
Drag races are won by whoever utilizes the power curve the best with their shifting. Assuming we're talking about identical drivetrains, it really boils down to whoever is maximizing the area under the power curve. This means if you shift exactly at peak power you're actually dropping way off the power curve where the engine makes less power. Ideally you want to shift somewhere after the rpm where peak power occurs so after the rpm drops down from the hear change that you're as close as you can be to making peak power again. A lot of the time this means shifting at redline because of where peak power is on the rpm vs hp curve.

It is super confusing. I know within the trucking industry there is a huge debate about this topic.
Even peterbilt threw in a torque guage with their new digital dashes to confuse everyone.

Shifting at peak HP keeps you in peak power longer

Peak power to get acceleration, staying as close as possible to peak power as long as possible is what will get you the fastest acceleration.
Not specific to trucks, but here's why.

Okay, perfect.
Yeah theres all the science and numbers i was looking for.

Torque is what it takes to get it moving. Horsepower is what keeps it moving

Good to know.
