New Plano Rides App is a Mess

So, when you sign up for the app, it asks for your birthdate, right? And this service is for folks 65 and up. But here's the kicker: you can't just type in your birthdate. The app makes you use this pop-up calendar, and to get to your actual birthdate, you have to click back day by day for at least 65 years. That's like, over 23,725 clicks just to put in your birthday!
I even called customer support, and it took me more than 15 minutes to convince the person on the other end that I just needed help setting up the app. She kept asking for my address and the address of where I was going, even though I was just trying to get the app running, not book a trip.
Honestly, I think I'll just drive or grab an Uber instead.
You can get the app on the Android Play Store by searching Plano Rides by Via. Good luck.

You know, maybe I’m stupid, but if I was gonna design an app where the intended user is a technologically illiterate boomer perhaps I might make the app as easy to use and dumbed down as possible. That certainly would not include having a birthdate selection that defaults to the current date.

Yeah a calendar view is a really dumb way to accept birthdates anyways.

Downloaded the app just to figure out what you didn't see.
When you're on the screen to choose your birthday and the popup shows up, click the year at the very top. That lets you select the year directly.

As a dev, I suspected this was the case, but as an end user I fucking wish this field type would stop being used.

As a helpdesk/IT desk manager I second this, but we're often overruled by the Corpo types who want a certain appearance more than usability!

I downloaded it and it was easy. What a great thing the city is offering! You keep riding Uber so there is more availability for me 😉

Without even looking at the app this is absolutely just user error. I’m sure there’s a year drop-down somewhere on the page
