What's the best tips/tricks for buying a car?

We're hopefully going to be getting a new car in the next couple of months. I'm leaning towards either a BYD Seal U Comfort or the Chery Tiggo 7 or 8 (coming from a 15 plate VW Golf). I’m after the secrets and tactics people use to get the best possible price.

What negotiation tricks have worked for you? Best time to go in? How do you play multiple dealers against each other? Any clever lines or moves that make them drop the price? End of quarter stuff, sales targets, whatever actually works.

Also any red flags that make you walk away straight away, and part-ex tips if you’re trading in. I read that I shouldnt mention I'm part-exing until I have them at their best price, is this something anyone's used before?

Any and all advice much appreciated,

Thanks!
