Where in the UK should go on a solo trip this weekend?

I have no plans, no responsibilities, no friends who are free, I have a car, and I am starting in Liverpool. I have half an idea to go to Scotland and camp out or something. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

The Isle of Skye

I have a suggestion. Check the weather.
I know that sounds like old people advice but I don’t care. It makes a difference.
I think iPhones have the weather for London and Edinburgh as a default setting because I know I didn’t add those areas myself but they are there anyway. And Edinburgh has a high chance of rain all weekend.
So check the weather app on your phone and choose somewhere where it suggests rain might happen for one day rather than both days.

on your way to Scotland, go through Alnwick, Bamburgh, Craster and Lindisfarne, I love these ones

Great locations, but they aren't on the way to Scotland from Liverpool.
moipwd@reddit
can't see OP saying which way they are going?? they could well change the route to come to the west coast to see some nice villages, it's well worth it
GrimQuim@reddit
Are you suggesting they drive from Liverpool to west coast Scotland via Northumberland?
moipwd@reddit
talking like the dude is WALKING lol, if they’re travelling, on holiday, exploring, why not????
GrimQuim@reddit
Yeah fuck it, it's only a six hour drive to Oban, might as well add two hours to that, that should maximise their weekend hours.

Love Bamburgh 😍

NC500 great coastal road around Scotland with lots to do
MiddleAgedDread123@reddit
Too far from Liverpool for a weekend though!
Ok_Note_2791@reddit
maybe not all? but you can do some.
or peak district/manchester are the places that come to mind
MiddleAgedDread123@reddit
It’s a very long day of driving to even get to the start of the NC500 and the same going back. Too much for one driver to safely do in a day IMO.
Ok_Note_2791@reddit
probably, you're right

The South Downs national park around Sussex is nice.

The Lake District, if you have a paddle board take that and just enjoy the nature while paddling on a lake

Borrowdale. One of the quieter parts of the Lake District. So beautiful, and so much to explore: get up to some of the highest fells in the lakes from Seathwaite, visit Lodore Falls, the quieter side of Derwent Water, Castle Crag, Kings How, Galleny Force waterfall, Eagle Crag and Sergeant Crag, Glaramara, Langstrath Valley, the Bowder Stone, Watendlath tarn, Dale Head and Robinson, walk a stretch of the Cumbria Way, take a short drive out to Buttermere, ride on the incredibly scenic open-top bus route into Keswick (the 78 bus). One of my favourite places on earth, and only 2 and a half hours from Liverpool. The YHA has accommodation and camping at reasonable prices.

Where in Scotland are you thinking? It's bigger than you think - the Borders vs the Highlands is a big difference in travelling time from Liverpool.

Rhyl. Just along the North Wales Expressway

If you’re going camping in Scotland then watch the midges. Take insert repellent.
GrossFatSlob@reddit
Way too cold for midges at the moment.
PootMcGroot@reddit
Scotland is going to eat seriously into your time - Peak District of Yorkshire Dales offer something similar at half the distance. Or do the same and go south the Wales.
Check where has the best weather.
RumJackson@reddit
Much closer to Liverpool than Scotland is North Wales and Snowdonia. There’s plenty of campsites with beaches, hiking, mountains, etc.
fjtuk@reddit
Check out Dumfries and Galloway. The path fatlr less trodden.
