Turkey unlike the balkan countries is mostly outside of it so it will have a large pool of culture and types of things. Its not a full in balkan country but is only partially influenced by it an mostly took on an influencing role instead

1st time I arrived in Sofia airport I took one of the taxis staying outside. Gave the hotel address and saw the taxi driver make a funny look. Payment by card.
Hotel was only 5 mins from the airport hence the funny look. I saw the taxi meter showing around 10 leva but the driver asked for 22 leva. Sure I told him, paid by card and asked for the bill. The driver started playing dumb so I translated to Bulgarian for him. At the end I told him I would call the police to clarify the situation. He gave me back 22 leva in cash.

Please use the official taxi operator at the airport (Yellow taxi). They have a parking next to arrivals and lots of advertising within the terminal. You can call them via the app. There are some opportunist taxi scammers at the lane right in front of the airport building, looks like they can't get rid of them even though it's just 10 minutes of so of free stay in the kiss zone.

When did that happen? This is rare according to foreigners I've spoken to, but if it does, tell him you are going to report him to the company. This should definitely make him reconsider whatever he came up with.

That was around the time they changed the taxi operator and before they introduced the kiss zone. If you ever come and that happens, do report them, it tends to be a disputed topic here, they should definitely react to it.

It is not official taxi, it just looks official. The only official ones are when you go to the right exit. The ones centrally are not legit taxis.
This area is for private parking and for friends/family waiting to pick up people from the airport. Gipsyes though use it with makeshift taxis and scam people.

The last 3 times I was in Sofia I got swarmed by fake taxi scammers- it happens in the airport, it happens in the central station and so it happens near the expo aswell.

In greece they just ask you half a days wage for a half hour ride (due to traffic), smoke inside, might start awkward religious or political conversations, goes on strike 5 times a month so they can keep their cartel monopoly.
