My mom bought me all my clothes.

I'm fifty years old and I would always get shirts and pants for Christmas. Now my mom's gone. I guess I have to pick out my own clothes. What do I even like?
wooflee90@reddit
My wife took over when I got married. Turns out I don't really like long-sleeved shirts that are blue, or at least, that's what she told me.
SleepyKoalaBear4812@reddit
She’s a good woman.

God bless her.

I’m 50 and my mom still buys me clothes. 🙄
jflearn@reddit (OP)
Can I get her phone number? 🤣
SERVANT2aCORGI@reddit
You are a riot! 🤣🤣🤣

Welcome to adulthood?

Maybe you misread. I'm only 50!

Underoos.

I miss underoos and could really used the outfit coordination.
sonic_couth@reddit
Flower sacks with a rope belt. Super cheap, comfortable, and retro-stylish. Millions will be wearing them soon. Be the first!

Snuggies that's the only way your drip will be lit..

Garanimals?
GboyFlex@reddit
I hear that Miller's Outpost has all the cool clothes, or was it Merry Go Round? Been awhile...
hkusp45css@reddit
I just go the store, try on a pant size that looks right. If it fits, I buy 5 pairs. 3 black, 1 blue, 1 khaki/brown.
I do the same thing with shirts.
I do this about twice a year.
I'm a very simple creature.
Kodiak01@reddit
This doesn't work as well for me.
The next time you're out shopping for pants, especially jeans, take a look to see just how many mens 36x34 you can find.
If the total is more than one of any particular variety, I would be shocked.
Same goes for sneakers. Size 12, extra-wide, and actual laces instead of slip-ons. I'm typically limited to Skechers (when I can actually find lace-up ones) or New Balance. Nike/Puma/Reebok/etc. never have anything in my size and width in-store.
WattDeFrak@reddit
you buy what you can and then find the rest online. continue to order them there. never need to set foot in a store again.
Kodiak01@reddit
I've tried that as well, but they never seem to fit the same way.
hkusp45css@reddit
Yeah, I wear 32X32 and it's actually tougher than it seems like it should be to find pants in that size. I don't feel like it's a weird size, but I'm wrong, apparently.
Kilashandra1996@reddit
If the shoe fits, ... I buy 3-5 pairs.
jflearn@reddit (OP)
Chucks, size ten. But only if they're on clearance.
Historical_Bath_9854@reddit
I used to get Chucks 2 for $20 (bad colors 80s) on clearance, then $20 per pair on clearance (90s-early 2000s), now 🤯. I miss cheap Chucks.
jflearn@reddit (OP)
They are $50+ now. For canvas shoes!!!
PeptoBismark@reddit
There's a LLBean outlet next to our usual beginning of summer week away. Most of my clothes are whatever fits from there.
godofwine16@reddit
When I was a kid I hated getting clothes as gifts. Now I get it. Ties, socks and underwear, sweaters are fantastic gifts.
IncredibleBulk2@reddit
Go to a sporting goods store and try on the golf pants.
archedhighbrow@reddit
Oh, man, I completely forgot about receiving clothes. My sister is gone and she always gave clothing on the holidays and birthdays.

Clothing == love
shawncollins512@reddit
It is pricey, but if you want some regular additions to your wardrobe, check out StitchFix or one of their competitors.
jflearn@reddit (OP)
My wife did that for a while. That's a good suggestion.
Neat_Ad4712@reddit
I was 4 when I put my foot down and refused to wear an ensemble my mom had brought home one day. Decided I‘d be a fashion plate all on my own, even if, at first, I only got as far as being allowed to pick out my own Garanimals match-ups. 🦁🦒
Lrgdustbunnybreeder@reddit
Just go with some Garanimals. 😜
MassEffectRules@reddit
And Underoos.
Lrgdustbunnybreeder@reddit
Oh yes, a must have! Lol
Sad_Supermarket_176@reddit
My wife and mom buy all of my clothes. If I had to take over I'd be totally lost. I have no idea where clothes are even sold.
jflearn@reddit (OP)
My god. What even size am I?
Carinyosa99@reddit
Look at the label in your clothes that you already own?
human8060@reddit
Get your clothes from Costco, like any respectable middle aged person.

We're a "BJ's" family, but point taken.

I thought the whole point of BJs was NOT getting a family.

My Dad made most of my clothes for me, and now my husband and bestie buy most of my clothes for me. It’s a weird problem to have as someone within sight of the senior discount, but here we are…

Condolences about your mother 💗
jflearn@reddit (OP)
Thank you.

If you have a Nordstrom near you, they offer free personalized styling by appointment, which I have used a couple of times with great success. If that’s not a possibility, maybe try stick fix or another virtual stylist.
jflearn@reddit (OP)
That is actually a helpful suggestion. Thanks!
Kodiak01@reddit
The Nordstrom at the Burlington Mall in MA still has it's restaurant running as well!
allaboutaphie@reddit
You have this,, comfort is the key and all good.
theredqueentheory@reddit
Try going on pinterest fashion pages and see what catches your eye, and buy something similar!

Pintrest! Is that one of those Tik Tok things? You must have confused me with my daughter. 😉 Thanks!

Here is what I buy my son:
5 pairs of Old Navy jeans Hanes underwear briefs Long sleeve t shirts with dinosaurs or sharks on them
He loves it. He's 11 though, but I think you could pull it off.
jflearn@reddit (OP)
Well, I don't think I've matured past the age of 11, so that might work.
ExtraAd7611@reddit
No wonder why you dressed exactly like your dad.
Keep it simple. My haberdasher is the Hanes aisle in the Walmart men's department. And if I'm feeling a little jaunty, the Hawaiian shirt rack.
If you need something dressy, the sales folks at Jos a bank or men's wearhouse are very helpful and will suit you up.
KurtStation68@reddit
I love the Hawaiian shirt rack, but maybe jazz it up with some suspenders and shorts
tonna33@reddit
Don't forget the socks to wear with the sandals!
jflearn@reddit (OP)
I do like Hawaiian shirts.
hkusp45css@reddit
They are the frock of choice for the discerning mature gentleman.
MarquesTreasures@reddit
Under roos are still popular

Always Wonder Woman!
hkusp45css@reddit
You can actually still buy these, in adult sizes, on Amazon, under "bioworld."
Commercial_Use_363@reddit
You could just buy copies of what you have been wearing. If what your mom was doing worked, just do that.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
I just got married. She dresses me now. She said if I dress myself I look like a toddler. I don't see a problem with it.
Kodiak01@reddit
My wife gets me the exact same three things every Christmas:
A big bottle of Maker's Mark
A giant bag of peanut butter M&Ms
and...
I love my woolies. I wear them year-round! In 90 degree heat, on my feet all day going upwards of 17000 steps, that's the only part of me that doesn't feel like total crap at the end. Merino wool is just THAT good.
jflearn@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the laughs folks. God bless.
wrhnj@reddit
You should try Woolworths and Kmart for some cool clothes.
