Malta accomondation problem

Hello everyone!
Maybe it's from the island or you're living here.
I would like to ask for help, as we have ended up in a very difficult situation. A few weeks ago we were forced to move into an Airbnb due to a scam (we have already started an official legal procedure), but we simply can’t afford it anymore and it’s taking everything we have.
We are Europeans with one child, and both of us are working. We are looking for the cheapest possible accommodation for a few weeks.
Appoġġ and the Housing Authority have not responded to our requests. I even started a donation link, which I’m honestly ashamed of having to do, but we are in a desperate situation.
I am not asking for free help, but I am looking for the cheapest possible solution for a few weeks until we can recover from the financial loss and get back on our feet.
Thank you very much if you can help!

I have so many questions . How did you get scammed ? Why did you give your landlord 2000€ ? Why didn’t you have a lease ?
Were you born in Europe or do you just have European passports ?
What’s your budget ? Where is home ? Do you have jobs ?

I wrote that we work and live in an Airbnb. I also wrote that we are European, so we were born in Europe. And I paid because he threatened me, I was new in a country that I didn't know well, so I took the necessary steps but it won't have any results right away.

So you gave someone 2000€ just because he told you to ?
That’s mad . How old are you ?
What do you work as and what is your budget ? Do you clean airbnbs or are you remote working which requires an are internet connection I imagine .
Anyway I guess google homeless shelters . Maybe don’t give money to strangers when they ask in the future .
Something feels off though. I don’t know how two Europeans who are old enough to have a baby can be so naive .
Can’t you go home ? Or have your parents send you money ? Sounds weird to put your kid through all of this . Where are you from ? Why the urgency? Why Malta ?

We came from the most corrupt country in Europe, the hospitals are rotten, the kindergartens are below par. That's why I came to Malta because we speak English. I'm not asking someone to pay for my apartment or to host me for free. But I know there are guest houses and aparthotels that probably cost half as much as I do now on Airbnb and Booking.com, so I was waiting for advice. And in 2-3 weeks they get to the point where I rent an apartment from an official agency. I'm not that naive, but a "nice" person in a foreign country manipulated me, that's the story, yes, I believed him. But after that I went, saved everything, documented everything and took the necessary steps. My current budget until the end of the month is 300 euros. For this period, they just want to find a better solution.

Who are “they” ?
That’s pretty naive handing over so much cash with no contrat to a stranger . You need to not be so nice . Especially if you’re responsible for another person .
What are your jobs ? What’s your monthly income ? When are you getting paid again ?
I don’t know . Look for students renting rooms in their flat shares maybe . Go see a social worker . Look for hotel cleaning jobs .
You still seem like you’re hiding something.
I have a feeling this won’t work out long term . Might want to start working on that plan B if this one doesn’t work out .

I need to pay a deposit of €2600–€2800 for an apartment, but at the moment I don’t have that much money on me. I will have it soon, but it would be faster if I didn’t have to keep paying this much through Airbnb. Maybe I’m being naive, but I think anyone can end up in a difficult situation at any time. It’s not that we are starving or that we have no income. It’s simply that I’m looking for cheaper accommodation for a few weeks — not for free, but at a lower price. And I'm a bartender/mixer, I have no problems with my job. I don't need another one. My salary comes in the first 5 days of next month. That's only 2-3 weeks.

That’s a huge deposit . With Maltese wages that will take a good while to earn .
And yeah I’ve had hard times too . Didn’t bring a baby into a messy situation.
And I’m not accusing you of asking for something for free , I’m just trying to understand your situation.
Anyway you don’t need the internet for your job so go to a homeless shelter . Yeah it sucks but it will be the quickest way to get some real stability.
How old are you ? Does your baby daddy work ? Or are you alone ?

earn above Maltese wages, so I’m lucky. My partner is also working. You’re misunderstanding the situation. We didn’t end up in a difficult situation in the sense that we’ll end up in a homeless shelter tomorrow or even the day after. The problem is that once you start living in Airbnbs, it becomes a vicious cycle you can never escape from, because 80% of your money goes on accommodation. I want to break out of this cycle as soon as possible. You see it as if we have no money and we’re going to become homeless and that I’m putting my child at risk, even though I never once said that we won’t have somewhere to live.

Okay whatever then .
I think there is a language problem. I don’t understand anything you’re saying . But if you say you’re fine then you’re fine .
Everywhere in Europe is having a housing crisis right now (except Hungary maybe) . Lots of people need to unfortunately pay too much for Airbnb’s in an emergency. Life is hard at the moment.
Especially on an island like Malta coming into the tourist season .
There is no cheat code to make up for you giving your money away . ¯\(ツ)/¯

Where are u from? Did u go to the police to report this crime?

I’m not from Malta, but maybe you can buy a cheap tent and set up at a camp site? I found campsite.mt with a quick google search and they offer a small plot for €10 per night.

If there were two of us, I would definitely do this, but we have a 2 and a half year old child.

Parents with small children camp out all the time. Just make it into an adventure and your child will be perfectly fine 🙂

Well, I've really thought about it, I'll look into it. Thank you! ☺️
