Why is the DEF tank on the right side?

Hello all. Why do some trucks have the DEF tank on the right side, when the DEF pump is on the left side? I look silly sometimes pulling in to the opposite side. Also half the time the gas pumps don’t even work lol. Maybe it’s bad juju 🤔

Better question is WHY IS THERE DEF

Mine is on the driver's side beside the fuel tank.

Nice 👍 it’s like that I don’t kenworths too. It’s like the engineers at Peterbilt went full dumb mode lol

I've been in 4 different Petes. Currently in a Pete now & all but one had the DEF tank on the drivers side. No idea why the inconsistency.

Because it's added as an after thought where the space is.

The company I work for has a T800 with the DEF tank on the passenger side

Damn, PACCAR takes an L, I guess

There wasn't a standard placement of pumps or tanks initially. I've heard that the right side has been standardized for modern trucks.

The number of people who have put DEF in the diesel tank is staggering. Keeping them as far from each other as possible is a really good idea

Ford put the DEF nozzle on the same door as the diesel. The problem with drivers putting DEF in the diesel tank got so bad they 👇
And
(My cousin who owns a construction company had this happen 3 times now. FINALLY and thankfully the trucks are now out of warranty and been Deleted)

was fueling up once and a driver next to me asked that i don't pull up when i'm done so he could fill his def which was on the passenger side. we talked for a minute about how stupid that was.

mines in the left

Nice
Milk_MAN1963@reddit
I have 150 gallon on each side no def
SuspectOk2931@reddit (OP)
DEF is so stupid. Just one more thing to worry about imo

I guess some believe breathing is over rated and miss the smog...
Ok-Combination7287@reddit
Right... 66 modern trucks emit the same as 1 from the 80s... please let's go back to that!
SuspectOk2931@reddit (OP)
Gonna pass away eventually lol 🤷♂️
Milk_MAN1963@reddit
I have a fleet of 45 trucks all pre emission all Cat. If something goes wrong they are easy to fix and we can fix them
SuspectOk2931@reddit (OP)
I agree! The company I work for has a 2004 freightliner with a CAT engine/No DEF, and it is perfection.
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit
I had a very dumb spect car hauler that the def on the right side. I used to keep one of those soft-sided def containers and just refill it as needed
SuspectOk2931@reddit (OP)
The truck I was driving had DEF jugs. Perhaps that’s the reason why.
