Holiday ideas for a young couple who can't decide where to go?

Hi!
My boyfriend and I want to go on our first summer holiday this year. We want to go for around 1 week at the start of August as that's when work allows us time off.
We were thinking of going to Cinque terre for around 5 days and then train to Rome for another 3 days. However, I think Rome might be a bit too hot in August and my boyfriend has been to Cinque terre before. He loved it but doesn't want to repeat it. We have a few other ideas but we are having trouble deciding!
Would anyone have any similar experience or suggestions? We are looking for somewhere along the sea with nice weather and beautiful scenery? A nearby city we can take a train to and explore for a few days at the start/end of the trip would also be nice (but not essential).
Thanks so much!

How old are you, and what do you want from the holiday?

Yeah we just want somewhere along the coast with beautiful scenery. We want somewhere with plenty to see and do but not too rowdy (like Albufeira etc.)

Zadar in Croatia

My guess is what they want is probably somewhere along the sea with nice weather and beautiful scenery - maybe with a nearby city they can take a train to explore for a few days as well.

Shame you’re stuck with peak summer holiday time when it’s the most expensive it can be.
My process is just to check Skyscanner for the cheapest flights and build my holiday from there.

Aren't hotels a bigger cost than flights though?

Normally.

A few we've done:
Seville >train> Cadiz >train> Jerez
Malaga >bus> Granada
Split >boat> Hvar >boat> Trogir
Corsica (Ajaccio to Bastia can be done by train, but recommend a car, or bus using Porto-Vecchio as a base)
Lisbon >train> Porto
Helsinki >ferry> Tallinn >bus> Riga >ferry> Stockholm >train> Copenhagen (pick 2 or 3 for a week)
On our list:
Trieste >bus> Pula

Have you thought about the lakes area of Italy?
I went to Gardone Riviera with my wife, we stayed in Gardone Riviera, took the ferry across to various towns on the lake, as well as able to get the train to Verona (could probably make it to either Milan or Venice if you stay at the bottom near Peschiera del Garda where there's a train station).
We went back a few years later staying in Malcesine to the alps area of the lake.

Yes! I thought the lakes would be really lovely, I was just worried they would be really crowded, but I suppose everywhere is in August, and lake Garda might be slightly less crowded than lake como

We went in June both times and it's big enough that you can probably find somewhere nice on the lake. I will say if you aren't wanting to hire a car, find somewhere near or at one of the ferry stations to aid travelling about.

Honestly Cinque Terre is lovely but I totally get him if he doesn't want to visit again. It was good but too small to be worth a second visit. I agree not to go to Rome in August. We were there in mid July and it was boiling... I am tough girl from Thailand and even I really struggled with the heat.
I recommend Budapest and take a train to Vienna and Bratislava as either day trip of over night.

Portugal get cheap flights

I would suggest the Amalfi coast (easy to visit Naples or Rome) but that will be heaving in August. How about northern Croatia or Malta. If you want something a bit less common Albania is meant to be really lovely

Edinburgh, then drive round the coast to Glasgow. Fabulous.

Croatia? Both the north & south coasts are stunning. Maybe a few days in rovinj/pula, a few days in dubrovnik, could do one of the waterfall national parks on the way?

Sidmouth Folk Festival first week of August, Sidmouth, Devon. It’s not “festival-festival” as the various musicians and artists are performing at different venues in the town as well as in the parks and the streets. Fantastic event, not a drug-fest like some other festivals.

I heard Blackpool is great!
Jks, I'd recommend Lisbon. Fab city with some much to do, see, and eat.
Gold_Information9677@reddit
Go on Skyscanner and put in the dates you’d want to go and that’ll narrow it down for you based on prices as August will be quite expensive.

Lisbon and surrounding area is lovely. Might be too hot though…
