Any Duranies in here?

When MTV went on the air, my sister and I would wait till a Duran Duran video played then get as close to the TV as possible. I was convinced if Simon LeBon ever met me we would fall in love and get married.
I have been going to their concerts for years and they are still great, though slowing down a bit.
I noticed in the past few years there have been a lot of younger people there. Its kinda cool. Sometimes the kids will be like, "omg! You know all the words to all the songs."
Do you all still go to their concerts?
RevolutionJones@reddit
Not me, but my wife is. I took her to see them in DC with Bastille and Nile Rodgers & CHIC as openers. It was a great concert.
FlyAdministrative886@reddit
Love love Duran Duran. I have not been to any concerts. I hope they come to the states!
Latter_Dish6370@reddit
I loved Duran Duran! I finally got to see them back in 2012.
Historical_Nail7271@reddit
I was a HUGE DURANNIE!!!! - JT was my Crush. But I dressed like Stiv Bator! Tee hee hee - Me n my sis ca. 1986
Jpkmets7@reddit
Amazing! I would have run after you all with stars in my eyes and mousse in my hair!

I’ve always loved Duran Duran. I’ve never seen them live but would LOVE to! I would buy the Teen Bear and whatever else teenager magazines to hang their posters up. My friends and I used to watch the VHS video that was a compilation of their music videos, including the risqué Girls in Film and the limousine videos. We were 10. 😂
D05wtt@reddit
Never heard anyone use the word “Duranies.” That’s a weird one.
Far_Kiwi_692@reddit (OP)
It's been around since the 80s. Lots of band fan bases use names, Parrot heads, Deadheads, Swifties, and so on.
Double-Carmel2193@reddit
Absolutely still love them! For my 50th my childhood bestie and I flew to London, from California, to see them in concert and it was amazing!
Greedy_Blueberry420@reddit
Avid Durannie, John Taylor was my dream and Simon in his white Denim jeans, yummy.... I finally got to see them in concert at Bluesfest in Ottawa in 2016 I think? The crowd was strewn with cougars in their 80s high hair and makeup, and it was glorious!
pika404@reddit
I was in love with Simon and Nick in middle school! I was also a bit jealous because Nick was allowed to wear copious amounts of eye shadow and I wasn’t allowed any make up at all 🤣 My husband and I took our teenagers to Bourbon and Beyond 3 years ago and watched Duran Duran put on an amazing performance. Even though the kids had heard Duran Duran over the years on my Sirius XM, seeing the band live gave them an appreciation for their talent and longevity. I had never seen them in concert before and all my GenX dreams were coming true, so awesome.
Far_Kiwi_692@reddit (OP)
As teenagers, when we went to concerts all the boys in our group would have the girls put eyeliner on them.
AZPeakBagger@reddit
Not a fan of the band but a fan of Duranies. They jump started my non-existent dating career in high school. All of the sudden a tall gangly guy with a bad punk haircut who vaguely looked like John Taylor found dates. Ended up marrying a Duranie.
Far_Kiwi_692@reddit (OP)
So cool!
No_Bookkeeper_6183@reddit
Every wall in my bedroom was covered with Duran Duran posters.
Jpkmets7@reddit
Same. I wanted to be those guys for a hot minute.
Jpkmets7@reddit
They were my first concert on the Seven and the Ragged Tiger tour at MSG. I used to spend all my allowances hunting Japanese import 12” singles in Greenwich village and was all about the jackets with snaps and flaps. I was way in. Even stayed out all night freezing outside the Carlyle hotel autograph seeking. I was all over them from Planet Earth forward.
GenXray@reddit
Yes, since 1981. First concert was the Glass Spider Tour with Bowie in ‘87. Lifetime highlight. Have seen them every decade. As a band, they’re so tight. Maybe even better musicians today, as they keep on creating and touring.
shawncollins512@reddit
I saw them for the first time a few years ago at the Austin City Limits festival and they were awesome.
jetpack324@reddit
61 year old dude here. Duran Duran is my favorite band. I don’t go to concerts anymore because of Ticketmaster, but I’d probably go see Duran Duran if they were playing nearby.
Freightshaker000@reddit
Seven and the Ragged Tiger is still a great album and John Taylor is a monster bassist.
TheMightyPushmataha@reddit
He has bass tutorials on the Duran Duran YouTube channel!

I have tickets to see them in June and my inner 12-year-old still squees, even though I've seen them many times now.
They've basically provided the soundtrack of my life. Duran Duran and Iron Maiden are my two favorite bands still, and I'll see them both next month.
vbtodenver@reddit
Oh yes. Saw them most recently on 1/1 in Vegas. Simon is still amazing.
kramwest1@reddit
Saw them in 1993, then again in 2023 at the Minnesota State Fair. They sounded great. Simon’s voice is still amazing. My surprise favorite song from the fair show?
White Lines. It kicked ass, but a lot of people didn’t know it.
DoctorFrick@reddit
Never got to see them live, but was blown away when our youngest rolled up to the house from school blaring Duran Duran from the car speakers.
When I asked, the response I got was "Oh hell yeah, they're huge right now."
Ihadsumthin4this@reddit
Wait---seriously? When was this?
music-fan-2025@reddit
I need to look into this!
cnhn@reddit
They had a song blow up and go massively viral in the metal gear gaming community roughly 2023-2024 and from there into tiktok.
I only know this because in a different conversation someone called invisible a late career stand out track I was like...dafuq?
Far_Kiwi_692@reddit (OP)
I think after they got into the rock and roll hall of fame. They still actively tour.
Ihadsumthin4this@reddit
I mean, didn't they just two weeks ago release a new single with a guest appearance by a name musician?
Necessary_Memory8826@reddit
Duran Duran just recently released a new single with Nile Rodgers. He’s an amazing musician in his own right (he’s a co-founder of Chic) and is REALLY well known as music producer. He produced albums for DD as well as David Bowie, Daft Punk, INXS, Madonna…the list goes on and on. He opened for DD when they toured a couple of years ago.
Duran Duran was my first concert in 1983 (Sing Blue Silver tour) and I’ve seen them many times since. They never fail to disappoint in concert!
Ihadsumthin4this@reddit
Right---Nile Rodgers!! I'd seen the video from a week (or two ago), but hadn't remembered it was HIM in it when I earlier was itt.
Rodgers has a huge hand involving the POWER STATION, along with the late and much-missed drummer Tony Thompson. Had their cassette, and later their extended content cd/dvd (sometime in mid-00s fwiw).
amnichols@reddit
I saw Power Station at the Greek Theater in LA. Missing Persons opened for them.
Ihadsumthin4this@reddit
I mean, didn't they just two weeks ago release a new single with a guest appearance by a name .usician?
DoctorFrick@reddit
Early in the school year, maybe six months ago. I don't know how the kids found 'em, but I guess they did!
Ihadsumthin4this@reddit
Isn't that too cool, though, all things considered? 🙂
DoctorFrick@reddit
Absolutely! Pretty thrilling to be told by your offspring that something you actually know something about it "cool."
"Hey, lemme show you something..."
And then pull a bunch of LP's off the shelf and watch their eyes pop out of their head.
GaryNOVA@reddit
>duranies
Is that a real term?
The Wedding Album is unapologetically my favorite Duran Duran album.
music-fan-2025@reddit
Yes. Omg you never heard it!
Far_Kiwi_692@reddit (OP)
Yup, since the 80s we called and referred to ourselves as Duranies.
GaryNOVA@reddit
I like it!
hyst0rica1_29@reddit
Duran 1981-1984 was MY band!! 🤘🏼
Once Andy left & they decided to be a funk band I bailed. I only came back for Astronaut b/c, go figure: Andy came back. I was life-goal/dead set on catching that tour. We were scheduled to be one of the last shows on that tour.
Aaaaaaand then Nick gets sick 2 shows before us, in South America, making him unable to catch a flight to the States. The band unfortunately had commitments in the UK so there’d be no make up dates. So the tour ended before it got here. 😭
They’ve toured near here, off & on, since then, with Nick even making a visit to boutique clothing store Secret Oktober (iykyk) in Austin, TX when they played ACL. Alas, for me, that ship sailed decades ago. 😩
FormerCollegeDJ@reddit
I am not, but on a tangential note I’m wrapping up a trip to Salt Lake City today where I only used transit. On the light rail line between the work meeting site and downtown (Green Line), there is a station called “Power Station”. Whenever I passed that station, I asked where the guys from Duran Duran were.
knudude@reddit
Hope you had a nice time in Salt Lake, my friend!
sane-asylum@reddit
I had a friend that just loved Simon, massive crush. Me personally, hated the music in the 80s but heck man, I might be a metal guy but I really like 80s pop, them included and Ordinary World will always be in my Top 10
Sloth_grl@reddit
I was into New Age music
cnhn@reddit
Haven't ever seen them live but I have loved them since i was little. New Moon on Monday was the first song I ever learned the lyrics too.
f700es@reddit
Super DD fan. Started playing bass due to John's playing.
Spicercakes@reddit
I remember waiting for the premier of the Wild Boys video on MTV. Wasn't it the most expensive video ever made at the time or something?
Possible_Shoulder_50@reddit
Wife and I love them. We saw them for the first time a few years ago in New Orleans. It was great. Simon’s still got it and John Taylor has always been one of my favorite bass players.
Typical-Office-2954@reddit
You talking about Handsome Ass John Taylor? That guy can slap a bass line!
jenorama_CA@reddit
I enjoyed them in the 80s and then really enjoyed their Astronaut album and went to see them live on that tour. Now, up until that point, my perception of Duran Duran had been the guys running around a jungle or hanging out on yachts, so please forgive me, but those guys are really good musicians! They put on an A+ show and seemed like they were still having fun playing together after so many years. I see from the comments they have a new single out with Niles Rogers—I’ll have to look it up.
amnichols@reddit
Saw them the first time in 1982 at the Greek Theater in LA. We had front row center seats and followed them to the Chateau Marmonte afterwards.
Just saw them in Vegas and they rocked the house! Simon sounded fantastic and their musicianship has improved over the years. Fantastic show.
VeganMinx@reddit
Never caught Duran Duran, but I see James Taylor a few times every summer.
Russian_Doll_888@reddit
Love love love D2!!!! I did get to see them once back in 04 or 05, and it was their first return to the stage after a long hiatus. They sounded ok, but it didn't matter - I screeched like a teenager the entire time. I've seen several other concerts of them on tv since and looks like they got their groove back.
Then several years ago in Paris, my husband and I were at dinner and there was this group of 4 next to us and one of them was Simon! I almost died! He wasn't with his wife (later learned they were going through a divorce), but he was actually talking about her and telling how they met - he was incredibly sweet about it and I would have never thought they were having problems. It sounded like he was still really in love with her.
amnichols@reddit
They’re still together and are grandparents now.
punkdrummer22@reddit
As a punk metal head Duran Duran was one of the few pop/rock bands that I liked.
Sometimesunaware@reddit
My daughter discovered my box of CD's in the basement and played DD and the Cure non-stop after, we saw both when she was in high school, it really was fun to see young adults enjoying the same music I did when I was that age.
vargo911@reddit
I remember one day watching MTV at my grandparent's house and a preview of the new Twisted Sister video "We're not going to take it" video was coming on soon. My buddy and I ran to his house to watch it out of his bigger TV.
caregivermahomes@reddit
My babysitter was freaking obsessed with Simon her walls were covered with their posters!
stuck_behind_a_truck@reddit
John for me all the way. They have a show at the Hollywood Bowl.
Stereo_Jungle_Child@reddit
I love the Duran Duran cover of Public Enemy's "911 is a Joke".
One of the strangest covers I have ever heard.
Sufficient_Space8484@reddit
We’d sit around for hours just waiting for The Reflex to come on.
Far_Kiwi_692@reddit (OP)
Yes!
CrabbyOldster78@reddit
I LOVED them but my parents wouldn’t let me go to a concert when I was younger 😭 I didn’t see them in concert until I was an adult. Roger is still my man 😍😍😍
Adventurous_Focus760@reddit
Me 🙋♀️
BillT999@reddit
I go whenever they come by and the last time I took my teenage daughters and they loved it. They knew most of songs from having to listen to them in the car when I was driving them around
4cats1dog20@reddit
Duranie - JT / SLB - for 40 years, however, only got to see them for the first time in 2024. I nearly passed out from the exhilaration - they were that amazing. Absolutely need to see them live again.
ZenJenM@reddit
I started a fan club for them when I was in 5th grade. Lol Finally met them semi-organically post concert in Austin when I was 22.
Far_Kiwi_692@reddit (OP)
🥰
KurtStation68@reddit
My sis was obsessed with the drummer - posters everywhere and useless facts (especially about his hair and make up).
I thought after her Lief Garrett phase it would be too - but this one lasted a few years longer.
SackBadger2024@reddit
I have seen them more than any other band in my life.
Yioughta5150@reddit
I just saw them a couple of weeks ago. I never miss a show if I can help it. I even went to see them get inducted. And yes, I have taken every family member of mine to a Duran show, including my kids who got to experience why their mother is a Duranie. This last one, however, I went by myself, and it was the same type of glorious energy I have always experienced at their shows. As long as they're alive and healthy and still putting out new music and touring, I will continue attending their shows!
chabs1965@reddit
For me it was Roger. I knew we'd bump into each other then have a happily ever after.
bluudclut@reddit
My wife still loves them. She saw them first in London in 1983!
Sintered_Monkey@reddit
I am not, but I am married to one.
_Aardvark@reddit
We've seen them several times. Simon's voice has actually improved recently I think. Heck, he was sick one concert and he still sounded good.
Formal_Plum_2285@reddit
We were in love with John Taylor.
Formal_Plum_2285@reddit
We were in love with John Taylor.
ForgottenGenX47@reddit
Hell yeah. They still put on a fun show.
Manfrenjensenjen@reddit
Loved them since middle school, and took up bass because John Taylor is such a badass. Never seen them live, sadly.
I’ve seen some kids at my daughter’s high school wear Duran tshirts, I think kids do like them at the moment.
Ihadsumthin4this@reddit
So believe it or not, Just Last Night in fact, I'm rummaging thru over in r/baseball, and I stumble on a post starting with, "Duran strikes-out Duran...." to which, upon seeing its several second clip, I had a nice two-sentence bit to add.
Overall, it can range from a fairly no-nonsense bunch over there (read : tough crowd) to a who-knows-what-sorta-randoms we'll run across when time is right. So of course, one weighs one's contribution.
I went forward with mine which nice and surprisingly brought a number of arrows-of-approvals.
Normally I'd include my brief happenstantial wordplay here for yous to read, but ya hafta see the vidclip to take-in the moment.
🙂
This_Is_Just_To_Sigh@reddit
saw them two weeks ago at the Beachlife fest in redondo beach. It was a terrific show and yes, tons of younger people. Duranie till I die.
La_Mano_Cornuta@reddit
As a young man, during their hey-day I wasn't as much a fan as it seemed to veer close to the whole teen beat world as well. As a music fan, that bass slaps like no other and god damn can they write some hooks.
ORF1Live@reddit
Yes, love them! Seen them a few times
