Found my favorite shirts from high school in the garage. Circa 1988 ish. Back in the day when if you wanted a soft thin t-shirt you couldn’t buy them that way. You just had to wash and wear the sh*t out of it. These were basically my school uniform 🤣

Hell yes. Early Metallica, Slayer, Sacred Reich, Suicidal Tendencies, SOD, DRI, Evil Army, Power Trip, etc.
Also a huge fan of doom, stoner, death, sludge, and some black metal. There is a flavor of heavy music for anyone to enjoy.

What’s metallica?
InstantlyTremendous@reddit
Ride the Lightning is an absolute masterpiece and I still have tinnitus from seeing Metallica back in the day
zrayburton@reddit
Agreed, out of all their albums that would be my desert island one.
No_Roof_8787@reddit (OP)
Funny you say that, my hearing is absolutely shot and I blame the many, many, many metal concerts I’ve been to in my life with no earplugs
InstantlyTremendous@reddit
100% that's why I have it. I couldn't hear anything for 2 days after seeing Metallica, and that was just one of many metal concerts I went to
CoolDragon@reddit
Metallica is ”thrash” metal? It’s just good music for me.

FlightExtension8825@reddit
What really? Had no idea they were still putting out music.
jonny_mal@reddit
Yeah, they are, it’s crazy that it’s been 10 years since their last album… Which was also amazing. They also did a lot of work during the pandemic and created a bunch of live performances, including a sort of remake of “bring the noise” with Chuck D!
C43CE@reddit
Yes. Metallica isn’t really thrash though. DRI and SOD/MOD and more thrashy in my opinion.
SushiGradePanda@reddit
Kill 'Em All through Justice were thrash albums, for sure. After that, though, not so much...
MolotovDodgeball@reddit
They didn't make any albums after that as far as I know
I SAID
SushiGradePanda@reddit
Correct
sobuffalo@reddit
I’m a HUGE DRI fan. 4 of a kind hits that sweet sport for me. Of course I love Megadeth, Anthrax, Exosus and Testament but not limited lol. suicidal tendencies is in the mix.
Fun fact: I was at a show the Goo Goo Dolls opened for DRI and Gang Green. They opened for a lot of metal and punk bands, and themselves a bit more punk, Jed is a good album.
Waesrdtfyg0987@reddit
First time I've heard anyone refer to them and thrash band
mmpjd@reddit
Even Metallica themselves have said they are not a thrash band 👍

Emotional-Heron2643@reddit
I moved to Oakland a few years ago. Thrash is alive and fucking well here!!!
Like the other olds, I've taken a turn towards stoner and doom
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
Wait, what? I just got into doom and stoner, too. A lot of us do that? I had no idea.
Emotional-Heron2643@reddit
Doom & stoner have been huge for a while now and draw a pretty wide audience age-wise. While the genre is on the upswing, it's been around for decades. Hell Sabbath kinda started it when they birthed metal. So the audiences tend to run from teens to late genXers.
The shows are fun and chill. It's usually a good vibe with no gatekeeping. Just people out having a beer and a smoke taking in some music.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
Oh I love the shows! And I love finding other silver haired people there!
I’m an old old Sabbath fan from way back.
Right now I’m listening to a Windhand album. Love them.

I pray at the Metal Church. I know when it’s time to attend because I can hear For Whom the Bell Tolls. The Judas Priest always asks everyone, Do You Wear The Mark? I’m always the Last In Line to leave. I have to pass through the Cemetery Gates on the way out. As we walk past the Children of the Grave in the Casket Garden, we Watch the Children Pray. I Walk by the headstone of my friend and whisper, I’ll See You In Hell My Friend. I drive my Slick Black Cadillac when I’m on my way Home Sweet Home. I take the Highway to Hell but I Can’t Drive 55. On the drive, I Turn Up the Radio and listen to the Symphony of Destruction as it’s Raining Blood. When I arrive home to My Dying Bride, everything will Fade to Black.

punktualPorcupine@reddit
Thrash? Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden are great, but they skew easy listening not thrash.
nuclearspectre@reddit
Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax are widely considered the fathers of thrash metal. Exodus, Venom, Testament, Overkill, etc. also, but not nearly as well known. Yeah, there is much heavier stuff out there, but these guys were the definitive thrash metal bands.
I personally prefer the metal that followed shortly after the thrash heyday (Pantera, Sepultura, Prong, etc.), but give credit where due.
Mr_Grumpy_Pant5@reddit
You basically outlined my childhood. Just saw Overkill a month ago with Testament.
nuclearspectre@reddit
Nice! I don’t think I’ve had much more fun experiences than I’ve had taking my teenage kids to see bands I went to see in my youth. Keep on keeping on!
Mr_Grumpy_Pant5@reddit
Iron Maiden? Metallica and Megadeth define the thrash metal genre.
SUPTheCreek@reddit
I never considered them “thrash metal”, but label as you wish.
Mr_Grumpy_Pant5@reddit
I don't really need to label them, just stating an objective truth. Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Slayer, etc. are all part of a the subgenre of metal. What bands would you consider thrash metal?
SUPTheCreek@reddit
I guess I something like Blackflag. I just considered Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth straight heavy metal.
It’s not a hill I’m gonna die on.
Mr_Grumpy_Pant5@reddit
There are so many sungenres of metal it's pretty ridiculous.
MariChloe@reddit
Neither did I
Remy0507@reddit
Iron Maiden is more power metal, but Metallica (pre-90s) and Megadeth are literally half of the "big four" of thrash metal alongside Anthrax and Slayer. Metallica is often considered to be the band that fully established the genre.
kerosenehat63@reddit
Never got into this genre of music. I come from the power pop, melodic pop, roots rock, alternative rock end of the music spectrum.
viewering@reddit
Plenty come from thrash and alternative

RunsWithPremise@reddit
My friend and I have been going to see Metallica together for over 25 years now.
The last two times, we paid for Snake Pit tickets. It's an awesome experience. Metallica can still get it done live. They're really good.
If you're talking about the "big four," I've seen Slayer and Megadeth several times. Last time I saw Megadeth was probably around 2016 and Mustaine's voice was junk at that point already. Haven't seen them since. I was never super into Anthrax for whatever reason.

Bright-Form730@reddit
Yep, since the late 80s.
invertedsaint_666@reddit
Fuck yes thrash, prog, death and hardcore. I'm 50 now and when I was younger I used to wonder if I would ever get tired of outgrow heavy music and the answer is fuck no. I listen to everything from outlaw country to dream pop, '80s, some current pop to shoegaze but I'm a metalhead through and through.
With concert ticket prices being out of control, one of me and the wifes favorite things to do is go see smaller bands in smaller venues like DRI, 200 Stab Wounds, Suicidal Tendencies, Cavalera Conspiracy, Soulfly and Machine Head. When we saw DRI during their 40th anniversary tour a few years ago they had some young Texas thrash metal bands opening for them. I've definitely retired from the pit so we just stay right on the outside of the circle. It's even more fun now because I'm not bombed out on illicit substances like I was when I was younger lol

Marty Friedman was an inspiration to me and my Fender strat in my teenage years

Man I have been hitting the gym again in the last year and I am back into it! This week was a few listens to Slayer’s Seasons in the Abyss…pump some iron baby. I also went through Megadeth’s repertoire and Metallica. Still can’t really get into anthrax though…don’t know why but something about them is just too skateboardy. 😂
sane-asylum@reddit
They showed more of a goofball side but also did a lot of serious stuff, Among The Living is a must
maddog2271@reddit
That is actually my favorite of their albums for sure. For me it just really powerfully reminds me a of group of skaters that lived near me who were obsessed with two things: Tony Hawk, and Anthrax. Good guys and all but they listened to the same 2 or 3 Anthrax tapes on their backyard halfpipe every day. It’s all I can think of when I hear the band.
