60R VOR-A Appreciation Post

With "2026-07360 (91 FR 20321)" going into effect this week, here's an appreciation post for the VOR-A into Navasota. Big loss for the IR/CFII pilots of the greater Houston area.
"A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on" - John F. Kennedy, 1963.
(Mostly a joke post, as this has been in the works for a while, but it's crazy to see the gears finally turning... and I guess it's also a PSA to check the FAA's "Standard Instrument Approach Procedures, and Takeoff Minimums and Obstacle Departure Procedures; Miscellaneous Amendments" when they come out.)
[Straight from the document. RIP.]()
I'm sure 60R's locals will appreciate it... but I'll miss shooting it in IMC or VFR with kiddos. Nothing like witnessing a combination of GA/flight school students stacked up for a couple thousand feet in holds.

That's where I failed my IFR ride. Fuck that approach. Jk... Was totally on me... Forgot to make calls.

So YOU'RE the one who cut me off in the pattern.... jk. Sorry to hear that, hope you got to reattempt and redeem yourself!

haha. DPE grabbed the controls and yanked us into a 45 deg bank to 'avoid the traffic'. there was no traffic there. but he was trying to make a point. I did redeem myself :)....12 years ago now.

Oh gee, well that's certainly one way to get the message across lol

My local vor-a also has also been cancelled. It’s a sad day indeed

Separated by location, united in grief. RIP.

Did my ifr check ride a few days ago and used the 60R VOR-A. Gonna miss the VOR-A approach. Guess liberty will be the new Navasota

Liberty and Huntsville are about to explode... Huntsville even more when it FINALLY opens back up lol

had that approach on my checkride, glad to see future pilots saved from the torture of this approach 8)
CFII knew it would be on my checkride so we practiced it till i had nightmares

Same! Along with the DME arc and LOC BC at KCLL. People love hearing about that one

The LOC BC + DME arc is a diabolical combo!
