OpenStreetMap ZIM?

I downloaded the latest/largest openstreetmap ZIM file from https://download.kiwix.org/zim/other, hoping I might find actual map data in there, but it seems to just be a ZIM of the OSM wiki? Is there a way to get a ZIM of the actual OSM maps?

Why not just download the maps, in a directly useful format, directly in OsmAnd?

I don't know about a ZIM file, but I work in geospatial analytics and primarily use https://overpass-turbo.eu/ and build my own WMS tile server

Not exactly what you asked for, but I did an OSM overlay on satellite imagery for my local area (100km radius) with Z22 which is really decent zoom. But to get this data I got codex to go out and find and test different sources, ended up with government arial photos which were in the right format to do this and so it varied from Z22 in the suburbs to Z20 in the bush but thats still a lot better than the other solutions out there.
I guess my main point is check local gov resources for high resolution satellite images and you might get some better maps, and I believe the other responses here have answered the OSM ZIM question.

I think for storage efficiency and compatibility with more of the existing map reader software you'll want the more "native" map format .osm.pbf
If you want the entire map data it's here https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Planet.osm , you can also see there how .osm.pbf reduces storage requirements to sub 100GB.

Yeah, the OSM ZIMs on Kiwix are wiki/docs (typical for zims, as u/Ryan_e3p pointed out), not actual offline map data. I didn't know an official maps ZIM from OSM was in the works - neat, u/The_other_kiwix_guy!
In the meantime, I actually built AtlasZIM (atlaszim.com) for this exact use case - it packages offline OpenStreetMap (and satellite imagery) tiles into a ZIM file for Kiwix. Though I should note it is paid and currently only goes up to zoom level 11.

I would pay $50 for that. Do you commit to updates on a schedule or anything?
anthonykaram7@reddit
I don't currently have a fixed release schedule. So far it's been more of a "release when meaningful improvements are ready" approach. Existing customers have automatically received access to new versions as they've come out, and I expect to continue doing that for the foreseeable future, though I try not to make hard guarantees too far in advance.
Recent updates have included things like adding offline place search and expanding the coverage from zoom level 10 to 11. Addition of support for zoom level 12 is currently in progress.

If I were to organize a group buy of 50 people, could you do it for $25/each?
anthonykaram7@reddit
Possibly, yes. DM me with a bit more detail on what you have in mind and we can discuss it.

Sweet!! This is exactly what I was looking for, and the satellite layer is an added bonus. I don't mind the cost.
The_other_kiwix_guy@reddit
It's in the works and a release should come soon. Currently in the test phase https://github.com/openzim/maps/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20milestone%3A0.2.0

That is what ZIM files are generally used for (things like wiki and other website backups). If you want OpenStreetMaps (like, the actual maps), use the export tool on their page.
