My husband and I woke up to the sound of a large cat roaring(?). YouTube’ing made it sound like it was a mountain lion and just wanted to see if anyone has any information!

I saw some cougars at Applebees.

I was out at Legacy West yesterday and spotted lots of cougars.

I don’t worry about them at all anymore. I’m far too old.

Plano resident here. I have seen a bobcat. How should I handle them? Can I pet? I’m 5’2 and 160lbs if that matters

I'm in Frisco and we've caught Bobcats on our cameras multiple times. There's been like maybe 5 mountain lion sightings in suburabian North Texas all time. 99% chance it was a Bobcat.

There were some Cougars spotted at Katy Trail Ice House some time back.

We’re two miles from there!

Up here in McKinney but have had multiple Bobcat sightings over the past month

Plano is native to lions, grizzlies, and direwolves. No telling what you heard. Get any audio captured?
lost_in_trepidation@reddit
North Texas actually had grizzlies and black bears many years ago
Prestigious-Oven3465@reddit
And dinosaurs, even many more years ago

Don't forget about the monster in oak point lake

OMG I thought I was the only one who had seen that! So it wasn't a dream or my imagination after all...

Neither bobcats or mountain lions roar. Only lion, tiger, leopard and jaguar can roar. Bobcats yowl, scream, hiss, growl and chatter. Mountain lions scream, growl, hiss, chirp and purr. If either screams it sounds like a person getting murdered. Also not aware of any recent sightings of a mountain lion in Plano. Bobcats though are very plentiful.

Bobcats in Texas say "y'all" 😅

Coyotes make all the sounds, though. Cat sounds, dog sounds, tortured soul sounds.

Lots of bobcats around. My son and I were fishing at archgate park and a big male came down right next to us on the bank. Drank some water. Waddled off. He was absolutely beautiful.

There was a mountain lion in Plano in November 2024. It was caught on surveillance cam and shown on Fox4.
jwishbone1@reddit
It was a male lion for sure, they roam these areas frequently….

Plenty of bob cats in Plano. My mother saw one go down one of those huge drain openings in the sidewalk. Cost almost $2 grand to have its talon pulled out of the shoulder of my younger brother’s cat
lpalf@reddit
Bobcats are everywhere but they don’t “roar” afaik.

Bobcats. Common.
Deep-Ad-7117@reddit
I once saw a mountain lion slinking into a drainage system in Plano

Can anyone direct the bobcat to come to my neighborhood and get all these damn rats and mice that have started to plague us?
Adultery@reddit
I’ve seen several bobcats in Plano. They’re so comfortable, one was just chillin on someone’s front porch.
OldTough9446@reddit
I’ve seen both in the area. Bobcats several times and mountain lion/cougar only once.
Guson1@reddit
Yea, it was probably a mountain lion
SaladDummy@reddit
I've seen plenty of bobcats in Plano. They are harmless to people but could be a danger to your small dog or cat if you have one. I doubt we have any mountain lions in Plano. Bobcat cries, however, aren't "loud roars." So I don't know what you heard, really. But, especially if you live near a creek or an open area, proximity to bobcats is most likely.

And don't leave pet cats or small dogs outside alone for very long or at all or they will be gone like a bunny.
Admirable-Spite-1831@reddit
Probably a bob cat. Plano has plenty of those. Bunnies are everywhere right now so bob cats and coyotes and birds of prey are feasting right now
