Finally, I got my HP Mini 2133 VIA C7-M 1.6GHz

After so much searching, I finally found one in great condition, and it even came with the 1.6GHz version, which made me even happier!!!
I can’t wait to customize it the way I want and start doing the upgrades.
P.S.: I knew this netbook was small, but I was honestly surprised — it was even smaller than I expected

ABNT2 KB layout gang. Brazilian detected. É nóis que voa! Kkkkkkkkk 🤣
I loved the aesthetics of this one back in the day, but I didn't have the money, so I got myself an Asus eeePC, first version, the one with an even tinier screen of only 7"

This was my dream netbook back in the day! Loved the look. What's the plan for it? Linux?
Weekly_Two4037@reddit (OP)
Yeah! I want to use it at work for simple notes, and at home to listen to some music and just experiment with whatever I can on it.
I’m planning to install Linux on it, but I still don’t know which distro would be best for it

Puppy Linux.

Lesse... up to 2 gigs of SDRam, a 2.5 slot (probably IDE so CF Card time), 1024x600 LCD screen, and 802.11 a/b/g/n wifi.
I mean, yeah that's going to really limit your linux options, but overall it's really not that bad, spec-wise.
Lukeno94@reddit
Definitely a lot nicer than the one I have, but these are definitely weak performers even by the standards of netbooks - the Intel Atom seems like a powerhouse in comparison!
ICQME@reddit
That's really cool having a non Intel or Amd system. I have a Via EPIA mini board with a Via C3 but never managed to find a C7.
Mccobsta@reddit
I had 2 acer net books the first had xp the second windows 7 starter
Not great for anything above doing home work or light web but damn I miss the formfactor
astroaxolotl720@reddit
Ahhh that’s sick. Always thought it would be cool to have one of those. Awesome. Enjoy :)
Manualcarlove18@reddit
It is crazy how modern it looks considering it’s 20 years old
Manualcarlove18@reddit
Totally. This size with a modern processor in it that would be cool. Or something a little bit bigger like the size of the MacBook 11 inch.
ActiveShipyard@reddit
Had one of these. Super solid build, especially the metal lid. Great keyboard too, despite being small. Fit perfectly on an airplane tray table.
mrmcporkchop@reddit
I had one of those in college with whatever the current version of Ubuntu was in 2008/2009
rharrow@reddit
Everyone but me had a netbook when I was in college. Man, I feel old now that they’re considered “retro” lol
I never got one because they were all incredibly slow and sluggish, even for basic use. I wish somebody would make a modern one that’s more powerful than a Chromebook.
roodammy44@reddit
They exist. The GPD pocket 4 is what you are thinking of. Though there are much cheaper low powered netbook ones, like the Chuwi Minibook X.
CizreK@reddit
I love super small laptops. That is a nice retro score. My modern version is the GPD Win Max 2.
EmersonLucero@reddit
I bought one for our OnCall usage back then. Added the extended battery and a LTE express card so the OnCall person could have a small system to respond to Production issues.
It was good enough to get online, vpn in and do what was needed. And was used until the iPad came out and a number of us switched to that for OnCall use.
When I closed down our office I kept it and sadly it does not boot anymore, a common failure mode with time.

Qual bateria extendida, será que ainda encontro? Peguei um recentemente

I have an Acer Aspire One 532h that I've owned since 2010, which was mostly useless to me beyond some minor things like taking notes when I was in college. Then a few years ago I put Windows XP on it and loaded it up with Windows 9x games, and it's been absolutely perfect for playing them. Even some XP games run well too if they're not too demanding.
BobFellatio@reddit
Eey, i had/have one of those too

I have a Dell Mini and wondered how it sized up vs this nice looking HP you scored.

I love my netbook lol, they remain the best option for "I'm in bed but don't want to sleep yet" emulation, I've beaten the Pokemon TCG games on mine so many times now lol. I just wish the aspect ratio/resolution wasn't so weird.
seamonkey420@reddit
yea, these were tiny. sadly a little underpowered (like every netbook, par for the course thing) but yea, i loved that era of netbooks. hey, if anything it ushered in the era of ultraportable highend machines (after every company was set on 15/17" laptops).
nice find! i miss my asus eeepc, should have kept it!

I never knew HP made their own Vaio P!
JoopIdema@reddit
I still got mine from back in the day. It is running windows 7.
EngineerMinded@reddit
I loved netbooks. I would like to see them make a comeback.
SubcommanderMarcos@reddit
I have a similar thing that a friend just gave me, but I couldn't get it to work. It would boot, fail to load Windows, then I tried going on recovery mode and reinstalling from partition, it failed to install, this on loop. I took out the CMOS battery but it was one of those soldered on and I didn't get around to fixing it. It's been a few years...
I guess when I do get it working some light Linux would be the way, but I still don't even know much about Linux other than having the Mint website here on a tab for a while to try to dual boot...
bitcraft@reddit
Why a nice form factor. It would be nice if there were modern devices in that style.
No-Succotash-9576@reddit
laptops/netbooks of that Era have such charm
OrionGrant@reddit
Ha ha this was my first laptop, about 20 years ago now.
It wasn't a bad little machine when it worked, and it certainly looked nice. I managed to play a little GTA 3 on it and even some basic gmod at times, although windows 7 struggled a lot. Windows XP was the sweet spot.
Unfortunately linux support was awful, as the via c7-m paired with the via (chrome?) graphics was not only rubbish, but nobody wrote good drivers for them.
I would pick up another to tinker with, but even if I don't, it was the first computer that I really tinkered with, so I will always have the memories of that.
Enjoy it :)
ryanteck@reddit
I actually daily drove one of these back in like 2009 Didn't win awards for performance but it helped get me through school at a time where being able to use computers / laptops in class wasn't common so them providing one was out of the question. The size & weight made it ideal for keeping it in the backpack and the bigger battery you could get for them made it last almost the entire day.
I think it eventually died but I picked one up in the last year for nostalgia, it's pretty nice for some XP Era stuff.
cowdog360@reddit
Nice netbook.
If I hear one more person call a netbook or a sub notebook a cyberdeck….
Weekly_Two4037@reddit (OP)
But I didn’t call it a cyberdeck 😰
Spare my life, I just want to use it like a guy who genuinely likes netbooks
cowdog360@reddit
lol, you’re good! Seems like on almost all these posts someone eventually says it.
AustriaModerator@reddit
beautifully useless device. vista basic ready. a nightmare of slowness.
Weekly_Two4037@reddit (OP)
Nothing that a few modifications — along with getting rid of Windows Vista — can’t fix.
But without a doubt, it’s really cute
