Ok who else still has the Perfect Strangers theme stuck in their head?

It's been how many days since that post and it STILL just comes creeping into my brain between thoughts.
Staaaaandiiiiiing TAAAAALL
LockieBalboa@reddit
All my life. It is on the free version of Plex right now, incase you need to binge watch a few seasons.
musashi-swanson@reddit
Well I didn’t. But now I do!
Ditzy_Davros@reddit
Not so much Perfect Strangers... but...
"Captain Planet, He's a hero! Gonna take pollution down to zero!"
TheJasperCollective@reddit (OP)
I spent some time watching this and it's so frustrating because we were prepared to go out into the world and make all this great change. Still a great show and if I had kids they'd be watching it
Ditzy_Davros@reddit
I still recycle and throw my trash away. I like to think CP helped with that.
TheJasperCollective@reddit (OP)
I'm absolutely rabid about recycling lol. I've held on to drink bottles if I was someone's house that doesn't have a recycling service. It's disheartening to know how much of what we put in the bin ends up in the ocean
TheJasperCollective@reddit (OP)
I genuinely forgot how much that show meant to me as a kid. Not realizing I was high masking autistic, I really related to Bronson Pinchot's character. I felt like I was living in a world where I didn't fully understand the rules and whys of peoples' actions.
Also probably one of my very first crushes.
Sad-Structure2364@reddit
Haha I’m glad you liked my post! I was taking about old theme songs with my coworkers and I thought it would be a fun thread for us xennials :)
TheJasperCollective@reddit (OP)
It was a wonderful dose of nostalgia!!! I'm really loving this sub
guru42101@reddit
I don't remember the theme song. I do remember the Dance of Joy.

I like to sing the full TGIF lineup while cleaning in the kitchen, from whatever happened to predictability to doing it the best I can. Name the era!
tha_rogering@reddit
The real ones show how it's done, show you how it's fun by singing the TGIF theme.

holy shit lol
18randomcharacters@reddit
I randomly sometimes sing it to my (3, 8) kids and they're like.... what?
TomPalmer1979@reddit
The one type of like tiktok/reel videos I cannot skip are the ones where Gen Z/Gen Alpha kids do a blind listen to some of the Disney show themes, like Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin, etc.
Just seeing the skepticism turn to joy as they're like "HOLY SHIT THIS SLAPS!"
SanSanSankyuTaiyosan@reddit
We got the Gummi Bears on a whole new tale
Chip n’ Dale on the rescue trail
And here’s a real treat that’s sure to win
We got Baloo the Bear in a TaleSpin
Ditzy_Davros@reddit
Gummy bears! Bouncing here and there and everywhere!

Oh I absolutely did NOT click on that one for that specific reasosn.

The TV Medley fthat Seth MacFarlane sings on The Family Guy Live in Las Vegas album includes the Perfect Strangers theme! Also the themes to Diff'rent Strokes, Growing Pains, Charles in Charge, Silver Spoons, Who's the Boss?, The Golden Girls, and Family Ties!
violetstrainj@reddit
I never knew what the real lyrics were, so I always just sang nonsense words and moved my arm around to the melody.
daaaaamntam@reddit
Anytime my husband and I encounter a huge gust of wind we both start reenacting the scene while while singing the chorus

MetaPhalanges@reddit
The PF theme will just randomly pop in there for no reason, probably several times a month. I feel like I was an indoctrination success story.
Plutoniumburrito@reddit
Me!!! Ever since that post, and I hadn’t thought of it since forever.
FalseVeterinarian881@reddit
My son and I play Kirby and the Forgotten land on the switch together and the song for the waddle Dee town is soooooooo similar to the theme song. Yes…it’s in there.
Electronic-Spinach43@reddit
Was watching The Residence on Netflix and had a “is that Balki?” moment.
PatchworkGirl82@reddit
I was just talking about that yesterday, it's right up there along with the Cheers and Mr. Belvedere themes.
My other real all time favorite has to be The Adventures of Pete & Pete.
SanSanSankyuTaiyosan@reddit
I watched a lot, a lot, of TV, and have never heard of Pete and Pete before. I’m guessing it wasn’t available in Vancouver, Canada.
But I’ll raise you a Samurai Pizza Cats theme song.
PatchworkGirl82@reddit
I think it's actually one of the few earlier Nick shows that wasn't produced in Canada (looking at you, You Can't Do That on Television, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Fred Penner's Place, and Fifteen)
TheJasperCollective@reddit (OP)
I could NOT watch Pete & Pete - something about the way it was shot I found jarring, and the aesthetic rubbed me the wrong way, kind of like a bad taste.
Not to say it was a bad show at all - it's almost like how I can't eat anything with cilantro because it all tastes like soap. Something about that show's vibe was the cilantro to my autism.
I'll never forget when they said the floor urinals were for washing your shoes
PatchworkGirl82@reddit
Interesting, I've only ever heard fond memories of it.
I can kind of get it though, it's about as unique as something like Twin Peaks is, which also isn't to everyone's taste.
The story behind Pete & Pete is pretty interesting though, it was created by the Gen Xrs in Nickelodeon's marketing department, and they brought in music video directors and other MTV people to help make it. I know the woman who directed "Shiny Happy People" by R.E.M. was involved anyway, because that's why Michael Stipe has a cameo.
TheJasperCollective@reddit (OP)
Oh yeah, Nick had some amazing shows at that time - I remember I LOVED Kablam. They were really going all over the place with their programming and just killing it pretty much across the board with Snick. I mean, Are You Afraid of the Dark? Absolutely amazing. If I recall wasn't it Pete & Pete, that kid gladiator show, Are you Afraid, and Kablam for the Snick line up?
PatchworkGirl82@reddit
I remember Pete & Pete, Are You Afraid, Clarissa Explains it All, and All That being the lineup when I watched.
I think Legends of the Hidden Temple came on after school, because I usually turned the channel to Disney Afternoon or Fox Kids Afternoon if game shows were on Nick.
Beach-Gold@reddit
One of the greatest TV themes of all time.
yodellingllama_@reddit
Nope. No room. Three's Company fills the entire space.
JamesMattDillon@reddit
Nope, will always be Duck Tales
ScotterMcJohnsonator@reddit
Almost, but then I beat it back with "What ever happened to predictability? The milkman, the paper boy, evening tv?"
Moist_Rule9623@reddit
There’s a special ring of hell for people like you 🤣🤣🤣
FatReverend@reddit
Did you know that the same guy also did the them songs for Step by step, Full House and Family Matters?
Moist_Rule9623@reddit
Now THAT’S good TV trivia!! Now that you say it I absolutely should have known Full House & Family Matters were by the same composer, but I would not have tied the other two together for myself in, well in about 40 years obviously because here we are 😂

TomPalmer1979@reddit
So I host a monthly nerdy/pop culture trivia night, based on Dropout's "Um, Actually", where the whole thing is that I read out a statement, and something in there is wrong. You have to figure out what's wrong and buzz in and correct me. I decided to dip into 80s sitcoms with this:
I got a sea of blank faces at first. I was like shit, does no one remember Perfect Strangers? And people kinda started stabbing at the statement, guessing at things here and there. And then suddenly one person just sits bolt upright and goes "OH! OH!" and slams the buzzer. "HE'S NOT GREEK! He's from...uh...it's like a made up country...shit, what was it- MYPOS!!! HE'S FROM MYPOS!!!"
The second they said that, you just watched half of the audience's brains crack open as that core memory unlocked and everyone suddenly remembered Perfect Strangers. It was a really fun moment.

I can never remember how that theme song goes until I start to hear it. For me, the ones that stick in my head are Step by Step and ALF.
po_ta_toes_80@reddit
I played in bands for years through my 20s and we incorporated a punk version of this theme into our band practices. I don't recall if we ever busted it out at a show, but I think I might remember if we did. Although, those days were a bit "fuzzy"...haha.
