Beaufort sailor completes around-the-world journey in self-built 19-foot boat

Josh Kali set sail from Beaufort on Jan. 28, 2025, and arrived back just over a year later, becoming the first American to circumnavigate the globe in a boat under 20 feet in length.

The journey was part of the Mini Globe Race, a global sailing competition that took Kali 223 days, 2 hours, 11 minutes and 39 seconds to complete.

Wow, yesterday, I was in impressive swells and winds somewhere between NZ and Minerva reef, reading A Voyage For Madmen... To think I could have been tossed about in a 20ft boat instead of 56 blows my mind.
